DAYS

Dear Co-workers in Christ,

The Dioceses of Erie and Greensburg are teaming up for our First Annual Quo Vadis Days (QVD) held at St. Philip Church and Retreat Center, Linesville from Sunday, July 8 – Wednesday, July 11. This is a four-day retreat/camp for high school boys that are considering seminary, the priesthood, and striving to follow God’s call in their life. QVD is welcoming Bishop Lawrence T. Persico and Bishop Edward C. Malesic, from Greensburg to celebrate Masses. We will also have other visiting priests to give talks and seminarians to lead us throughout the week. (see attached pamphlet)

“Quo Vadis” is the phrase for “Where are you going?” The legend is that St. Peter was fleeing the persecution of and leaving , when he saw heading into Rome. Peter asks Jesus, “Lord, where are you going? Jesus responds, “To Rome to be crucified.” Then Jesus disappeared. At that moment Peter headed back into Rome to face martyrdom.

Many of you have helped make the St. Andrew Dinners we have held throughout the diocese in the last two years successful. We have had over 100 young men attend these dinners! QVD is another step for a young man to discern at a deeper level. You are in the trenches with high schoolers and you know what young men would welcome this opportunity.

The first thing that I would ask is to pray for the fruitfulness of the camp. Second, please personally invite at least one young man (or more!) from your parish/school/youth group. Many young men take their spiritual lives seriously, have a desire to serve the Lord, and are indeed thinking about their vocation. Finally, please share this opportunity with the priests in your ministries.

Attached is information for your parish, yourself, and registration materials. Thank you for your time and consideration and willingness to promote and encourage the great gift of Christ’s priesthood that he continues to bestow on young men through the power of the Holy Spirit!

Please give me a call with any questions you may have.

God bless,

Fr. Mike
