Contact: Caitlyn Baker [email protected] (805) 944-7780 (c) (805) 350-7913 (o) FLOGGING MOLLY TO PERFORM AT CHUMASH CASINO RESORT SANTA YNEZ, CA – February 22, 2019 – Irish Celtic punk band Flogging Molly is bringing its unique sound of traditional Irish music and punk rock to the Chumash Casino Resort’s Samala Showroom at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2019. Tickets for the show are $69, $74, $79, $89 & $99. Their rowdy folk-rock punk revival sound has been compared to the likes of other Irish bands such as the Pogues and Black 47, but this raucous sextet opted for its own unique brashness that defied genre lines. The band was established by Dublin-born Dave King, who was formerly the lead singer for heavy metal band Fastway. Joining him are fiddle player Bridget Regan, guitarist Dennis Casey, bassist Nathen Maxwell, drummer Mike Alonso and mandolinist Bob Schmidt. They released their debut album “Swagger” in March 2000 and began touring. Album “Drunken Lullabies” was released in 2002 and later came “Within a Mile of Home” in 2004. Their DVD documentary titled “Whisky on a Sunday” (2006) took a candid look at Flogging Molly as a whole and also a closer look into each of the band members’ lives. In 2007, they released the “Complete Control Sessions” EP and the following year their fourth studio album “Float.” The band then hit the road, documenting the tour with the release of “Live at the Greek Theatre.” Eventually they settled back into the studio with producer Ryan Hewitt and recorded their fifth album, “Speed of Darkness.” Flogging Molly continued to tour over the next several years and began curating their annual Salty Dog Cruise, which sets sail each year over St. Patrick's Day. In 2017, they returned to Dublin to record their sixth studio album, “Life Is Good.” Don’t miss an opportunity to see these energetic performers live in one of the most popular music venues in Santa Barbara County. However, because there are influential recordings of the song performed in different styles, from folk to punk to metal, one begins to wonder what the role of the song’s Irish heritage is and whether or not it retains a sense of Irish identity in different iterations. The current project examines a corpus of 398 recordings of “Whiskey in the Jar” by artists from all over the world. FLOGGING MOLLY Speed of Darkness THE LIGHTS HAVE GONE OUT ON THE WORKING CLASS Three years ago, hard working men and women the world over were collectively under the assumption that their nest eggs were secure, their homes were the safest of all investments, and that the economy was on the upswing. Then, with virtually no warning, their lives were turned upside down, as an entire generation saw their dreams dashed and plans dismantled. It all happened with the Speed of Darkness. The creation of Flogging Molly's new record, Speed of Darkness, was anything but business as usual for the band. “It wasn’t the album we set out to write,” vocalist/guitarist Dave King says. “It became the album we had to write.” Musically and lyrically, Flogging Molly has never sounded so mature or rousing, nor have the messages of alienation and hope behind their songs ever been so relevant. Speed of Darkness was written over several months when the band would descend into the basement of King’s Detroit home—a home he shares with his wife, Flogging Molly fiddler, Bridget Regan (they maintain dual residences in Ireland and Detroit, where Bridget was born and raised). As the country struggled to stay afloat, the songs evolved into odes to the working man and battle cries against the elite establishment that so quickly and callously cast him aside. “I write from my surroundings,” King says. “I wanted people who’ve lost their jobs to know I was paying attention. We’re singing for them, all of these good people brought to their knees.” Nowhere is this more apparent than on the charging and bluesy track “The Power’s Out.” (“The power’s out, there’s fuck all to see/The power’s out, like this economy/The power’s out, guess it’s par for the course/Unless you’re a bloodsucking leech CEO”).

One more dance on the New York City skyline. One last call for Black 47. New York’s Black 47 released Last Call on March 4, 2014 and it is just that: their last call. After 25 years the band made a decision to stand down while they are still going strong and to reinforce that fact made a final musical statement with a solid 13-track album. For the loyal Black 47 fan and new listeners alike, Last Call beckons the ears into a fire of music still burning strong 25 years after the band’s first recording. It’s fresh, relevant, and not repetitive while keeping strong roots in Irish heritage. By no means does it sound like the band has plans of standing down following this album; however it does bring things full circle by incorporating a little bit of everything from the styles the band has composed with over their career – rock, punk, reggae, and even a splash of Latin music for something new. In line with the band’s Irish Republican sympathies, the lyrics on some songs are not shy on political and social commentary. A strength of the album in its composition is a tightness that can be heard in the rhythm section.
