1 Curling Club Championship Eligibility
Curling Club Championship Eligibility Requirements The Curling Club Championships Rules have been updated allowing Member Associations flexibility in staging their championships and reducing any interpretation of eligibility. The principles of this event target non-elite teams (grassroots club curlers) who regularly compete in their clubs. Teams, however, are no longer limited to being the club champion to be considered eligible. The changes will allow Member Associations to control the number of entries in their jurisdictions. For example, Curl Sask prefers to allow any eligible team to enter the regional playdowns. Or, Curl ON prefers to restrict the number of entries per club to a maximum of one. Either is acceptable. Curling Club Championship Eligibility Requirements We trust all curling rinks will respect the intent of the spirit of the Curling Club Championships by engaging their members to participate and to represent their curling club in any process leading to the provincial / territorial championships and ultimately, leading to the Canadian Curling Club Championships. The event was created for true club-based teams. The objective is to support the development of grassroots curling across Canada. Here are the eligibility requirements for events leading to the national Curling Club Championships. Curling Canada reserves the right to exclude any team that violates the spirit and intent of this event as it pertains to the rules below. 1) Participating curling clubs must be affiliated with its Provincial / Territorial Curling Association. They must be in good standing with all applicable dues to the Association paid in full. 2) Any competitor (including 5th players and spares) must be members in good standing of an affiliated curling club for the duration of the process.

The event was hosted by Repsol Oil and Gas, one of Team Koe’s major sponsors. The curling foursome spent time teaching young curlers some tips and tricks of the trade as they took part in different drills and exercises at the lo- cal curling club.

The event was created for true club-based teams. The objective is to support the development of grassroots curling across Canada. Presentation to Council June 18, 2018 Blue Mountain Curling Centre (“BMCC”) • Not a private club but a Community Curling Centre – Members provide core funding and volunteer hours to make it a reality – Provides for two days of curling ice time for both members and community partners • Beaver Valley Community School • Organizations such as Events for Life, Special Olympics • Business Development – Conventions, Corporate Events – Creates opportunities for the Town to host major curling events 2 Building Sense of Community • Our Mission : To promote the growth of curling within the Town of The Blue Mountains • Our Vision : A vibrant Beaver Valley Community Centre where young and old can come together to enjoy the healthy and social recreational activity of curling, as well as other sports 3 Community Support • Very successful Easter kick-off event • 245 curlers participated, including students, families, seniors, and special needs groups • Broad support from our community 4 Easter Event 5 Beaver Valley Rocks • Held in 2014 and included an exhibition game featuring world class curlers • Arena was sold out • Participants included Jennifer Jones, Glen Howard, Wayne Middaugh, Craig Savill, Brent Laing, Richard Hart, Heath McCormick and Andy Ormsby • Established solid relationships with Ontario Curling Association (CurlON) and Curling Canada • Demonstrated that our arena can provide world quality ice for major events 6 A Major Event Next Year • Current initiative has the support of both OCA and CCA • OCA established a special class of probationary membership for start- ups like ours • Stephen Chenier, Executive Director of OCA travelled here from Ottawa to meet with Town Staff • OCA is proposing to hold a major event in the South Georgian Bay area next year including in our arena, if we have curling • 110 teams, 450 curlers • ECONOMICS: – Total boost of almost $ 300,000 to the local economy at a time that is typically not oriented to tourism activity.
