Mclaren 570S GT4 and 570GT STAR at AUTO ZURICH Media information 08. November 2016 McLAREN 570S GT4 AND 570GT STAR AT AUTO ZURICH • Two versions of the McLaren Sports Series on display: Track-only 570S GT4 and the most refined and usable McLaren to date, the 570GT • McLaren Automotive is represented by Schmohl AG, trading as McLaren Zurich, in the Swiss German market • Visitors will have the opportunity to view the 570S GT4 and the 570GT from 10 to 13 November 2016 in the Hall 3, stand A09 McLaren Automotive will showcase two of the latest additions to the Sports Series model range at the 30th edition of Auto Zurich from Thursday 10 until Sunday 13 November 2016. Following the launch of the McLaren 570S GT4 earlier this year the new track-only model will make its Swiss debut ahead of customer racing commencing during the 2017 season. The 570GT also returns to Switzerland following the global premiere at the Geneva International Motor Show 2016. THE McLAREN 570S GT4 The track-only 570S GT4 shares the carbon fibre MonoCell II chassis architecture with the other models in the Sports Series. This marks the first time the technology has been made available in the GT4 category, and the race-derived material is of clear benefit with inherent strength and lightweight. Driver protection is further enhanced with the addition of an FIA-approved rollcage and fire extinguisher system. Carbon fibre and aluminium are used for the re-profiled bodywork, which is formed over wider track front and rear to accommodate centre-locking lightweight cast magnesium alloy wheels shod with Pirelli racing tyres. Adjustable motorsport dampers with coil-over springs are fitted front and rear, and an on-board air jacking system is fitted as standard. With a pure focus on laptimes, the McLaren 570S GT4 features a unique aerodynamic package which includes a GT4-specification high-level rear wing, a larger front splitter and re-profiled floor assembly. An additional front centre high-temperature radiator sits below a GT3-inspired bonnet with radiator exit ducts. These upgrades have been designed to optimise the aerodynamic performance and cooling of the 570S GT4 to ensure it can perform in the harshest race conditions globally. The McLaren-designed and developed 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 M838TE engine is carried over from the road-going Sports Series model. The seven-speed seamless shift gearbox is also familiar to the other models in the range, transferring power to the track via the rear wheels. Part of the development programme for the new Sports Series model has been contesting the full nine round calendar of the British GT championship. Racing with customer team Black Bull Ecurie Ecosse, the programme was the truest and most rigorous testing schedule in live race environments, and the season ended on a high with double race victories. The 570S GT4 is priced from £159,900 (ex works). THE McLAREN 570GT Alongside the 570S GT4, McLaren Automotive’s most refined and usable McLaren to date, the new 570GT will also be on display. The 570GT will be shown in Silica White and will feature extensive carbon fibres upgrades, 10-spoke super lightweight alloy wheels in stealth finish and a black Nappa Alcantara interior design. Overall performance for the 570GT is class-leading with the 0 to 100 km/h sprint taking 3.4 seconds, while 200 km/h is reached in just 9.8 seconds before going on to a top speed of 328 km/h. This latest addition to the range completes the three tier model strategy for McLaren alongside the Super Series and Ultimate Series. The Sports Series is the most usable and attainable model to wear a McLaren badge to date, but it retains the core design and dynamic focus that ensures it is still worthy of the iconic name. Weighing as little as 1,350kg, thanks to the unique lightweight carbon fibre MonoCell II chassis, the Sports Series is almost 150kg lighter than its closest rival. At the same time, the interior is more tailored around day-to-day usability, with optimised access, greater levels of stowage space and more refinement. The price for the powerful 570GT, which celebrated its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show, starts at 212.580 CHF (incl. 4% Import Zoll + 8% MwSt). TRICLINIUM PAUPERUM: POVERTY, CHARITY AND THE PAPACY IN THE TIME OF GREGORY THE GREAT AN ABSTRACT SUBMITTED ON THE FIFTEENTH DAY OF MARCH, 2013 TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE SCHOOL OF LIBERAL ARTS OF TULANE UNIVERSITY FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY BY ___________________________ Miles Doleac APPROVED: ________________________ Dennis P. Kehoe, Ph.D. Co-Director ________________________ F. Thomas Luongo, Ph.D. Co-Director ________________________ Thomas D. Frazel, Ph.D AN ABSTRACT This dissertation examines the role of Gregory I (r. 590-604 CE) in developing permanent ecclesiastical institutions under the authority of the Bishop of Rome to feed and serve the poor and the socio-political world in which he did so. Gregory’s work was part culmination of pre-existing practice, part innovation. I contend that Gregory transformed fading, ancient institutions and ideas—the Imperial annona, the monastic soup kitchen-hospice or xenodochium, Christianity’s “collection for the saints,” Christian caritas more generally and Greco-Roman euergetism—into something distinctly ecclesiastical, indeed “papal.” Although Gregory has long been closely associated with charity, few have attempted to unpack in any systematic way what Gregorian charity might have looked like in practical application and what impact it had on the Roman Church and the Roman people. I believe that we can see the contours of Gregory’s initiatives at work and, at least, the faint framework of an organized system of ecclesiastical charity that would emerge in clearer relief in the eighth and ninth centuries under Hadrian I (r. 772-795) and Leo III (r.

  • THE 570S COUPE: the FIRST MODEL in the NEW Mclaren SPORTS SERIES
Media information October 2015 THE 570S COUPE: THE FIRST MODEL IN THE NEW McLAREN SPORTS SERIES The Sports Series completes the McLaren three tier model range, with the 570S Coupe priced from $184,900 The highest power output and lightest car in the sports car segment by almost 331 lbs (150kg) means a class-leading power-to-weight ratio of 5 lbs per hp (434PS per ton) The 570S Coupe demonstrates five key characteristics – aerodynamics and design, minimized weight, craftsmanship, day-to-day usability and driving involvement – to create the most attainable McLaren model to date The McLaren 570S Coupe is the first – and highest powered – model launched in the recently announced Sports Series. Following its global debut at the New York International Auto Show in April 2015, the new model range marks the entry of McLaren into the luxury sports car market, introducing race-derived technologies and supercar performance in a package which is very much a pure McLaren. Lightweight construction, including the use of a carbon fiber chassis, recognizable design values and a comprehensive specification list ensures a class-leading offering, and as uncompromised as is expected from a McLaren. With pricing starting at $184,900, the 570S Coupe is available to order now with deliveries in the U.S. starting before the end of 2015. The latest addition to the range completes the three tier model strategy for McLaren alongside the Super Series and Ultimate Series. The Sports Series is the most usable and attainable model to wear a McLaren badge to date, but it retains the core design and dynamic focus that ensures it is still worthy of the iconic name.

The Track Pack, available to order immediately, is designed to deliver enhanced levels of driver engagement for owners who enjoy occasional track day activity without compromising the car’s all-round usability and includes a discretely extended rear wing to generate additional downforce. The Track Pack is inspired by McLaren’s long and illustrious racing history, including recent success in GT3 and GT4 categories. And like the road-going, and sold out, iconic McLaren 675LT, the Track Pack for the McLaren 570S exploits all the benefits of light weight and aerodynamic downforce to deliver the most gifted on-track ability of any member of the Sports Series family. Visually, the aerodynamics of the Track Pack are enhanced for circuit performance with the inclusion of a 12mm higher rear wing that boosts the already high cornering downforce by an additional 29kg at 150mph, enhancing stability in the fastest of corners. This is not available on any other McLaren Sports Series derivative. Other Track Pack visual clues include a McLaren Special Operations roof finish in Dark Palladium, and stealth-finish Sports exhaust. Already the most powerful and lightest car in its class, the McLaren 570S with Track Pack tips the scales at 25kg less than the coupé in standard form.

  • The Aksumites in South Arabia: an African Diaspora of Late Antiquity
Chapter 11 The Aksumites in South Arabia: An African Diaspora of Late Antiquity George Hatke 1 Introduction Much has been written over the years about foreign, specifically western, colo- nialism in sub-Saharan Africa, as well as about the foreign peoples, western and non-western alike, who have settled in sub-Saharan Africa during the modern period. However, although many large-scale states rose and fell in sub- Saharan Africa throughout pre-colonial times, the history of African imperial expansion into non-African lands is to a large degree the history of Egyptian invasions of Syria-Palestine during Pharaonic and Ptolemaic times, Carthagin- ian (effectively Phoenician) expansion into Sicily and Spain in the second half of the first millennium b.c.e, and the Almoravid and Almohad invasions of the Iberian Peninsula during the Middle Ages. However, none of this history involved sub-Saharan Africans to any appreciable degree. Yet during Late Antiquity,1 Aksum, a sub-Saharan African kingdom based in the northern Ethi- opian highlands, invaded its neighbors across the Red Sea on several occasions. Aksum, named after its capital city, was during this time an active participant in the long-distance sea trade linking the Mediterranean with India via the Red Sea. It was a literate kingdom with a tradition of monumental art and ar- chitecture and already a long history of contact with South Arabia. The history of Aksumite expansion into, and settlement in, South Arabia can be divided into two main periods. The first lasts from the late 2nd to the late 3rd century 1 Although there is disagreement among scholars as to the chronological limits of “Late Antiq- uity”—itself a modern concept—the term is, for the purposes of the present study, used to refer to the period from ca.
