ImportantFINALS - Sunday, August Dates:25, 7:00 PM Johnson County Community College - Yardley Hall

WHAT IS KC SUPERSTAR? Now in its 10th year, KC SuperStar is an “American Idol” style competition that awards the $10,000 Edward and Ellen Rose Scholarship to the most talented high school singer in Kansas City. More than 200 students from the Kanas City metro audition, and up to 24 singers make it to the semifinals where judges select 10 finalists. At the August 25th Finals, the audience enjoys a high-energy show and ultimately selects the winner via electronic voting. Total scholarship and prize money exceeds $22,000.

KC SUPERSTAR BENEFICIARIES: Proceeds from KC SuperStar support scholarships and programming throughout The Jewish Community Center (The J), providing meals, transportation, education, camp, wellness programs and the arts to so many deserving children, families, and senior adults. The J is a respected leader in the areas of child development, youth services, cultural arts, and senior adult programming, as well as fitness and sports activities and is open to all faiths and backgrounds. KC SuperStar continues to support The Reat Griffin Underwood Rising Stars Fund named in memory of Reat who, along with his grandfather, lost his life during the 2014 tragedy at The Jewish Community Campus. This fund directly supports Performing Arts education and training programs for youth ages 14-21. This year a portion of the amount raised by KCSS will also support The J’s Capital Campaign. More information about The J’s exciting building expansion can be found below.

THE J’S BUILDING EXPANSION: As part of The J’s continued commitment to make a greater impact on the community, The J will be enlarging its facilities by adding more than 27,000 square feet of programming space. The new space will include a state-of-the-art youth gymnasium that will accommodate basketball, pickleball and volleyball activities, a new indoor turf field for youth sports training and soccer as well as an enhanced youth fitness zone and a remodeled babysitting area. In addition, there will be more spaces for group exercise classes and an expansion of the Visual Arts program. The expansion will not only benefit J members of all ages, but will provide greater opportunities in athletics for the Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy and the greater Kansas City community.
