SMARTWATCHES CTA expects more than 7 million smartwatches will sell during the 2018 holiday season, a 26 percent increase over last year. The Apple Watch has been credited with bringing this tech category into the mainstream after years of kicking around in the outskirts. Odds are you know someone who wants to up their wrist game with FITBIT VERSA » a device that not only tells time but tracks fi tness, allows SMARTWATCH notifi cations, accesses apps and more. You will want to pick a smartwatch that works with your gift recipient’s smartphone, as compatibility is key. If your mom is an iPhone devotee, the Apple Watch Series 4 GPS Smartwatch (starting at $399, apple.com) is the choice to consider, as it only works with iOS- powered devices. Redesigned with a larger screen with bright display, optional cellphone connectivity is a key upgrade from former series. Fitness tracking highlights include a new electrical heart-rate sensor, automatic workout detection, GPS, fall detection and emergency SOS. For Android phone users, look for Google’s Wear OS watches (formerly called Android Wear). Wear OS is playing catchup with the Apple Watch, but there are more options and price points from which to choose. The Wear OS smartwatches vary greatly in features and quality, so keep these needs in mind. Highly rated OS Wear watches include Samsung’s Galaxy Watch (starting at $329.99) and Gear Sport ($279.99, both at 4500 square feet of Christian Books, samsung.com) and the Fitbit Versa Smartwatch ($199.95, fi tbit.com) Cards, Gifts, Art, and much much more! $5 off $25 or more (with this ad) Expires 12/31/2018 Not combined with any other offer. 23851 Via Fabricante, Suite 201 Mission Viejo, Ca 92691 (Off Alicia Pkwy) Hours: Mon-Sat 10am-7pm 949-716-5511 THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2018 THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER » OCREGISTER.COM | Holiday Gift Guide P | 21

WIRELESS EARBUDS Those of us of a certain age have seen fi rst-hand the evolution in audio listening devices, as they literally shrank from bulky headphones, to smaller pairs and earbuds, to today’s wireless earbuds. Sales of wireless earbuds are expected to explode this holiday season, with the lure of listening to music, watching TV, movies or videos on a paired device and talking on the phone without the tangle of wires an attractive prospect. The CTA predicts a 60 percent increase over last year’s sales, with an estimated 5.3 million pairs expected to sell. This market has been propelled forward by Apple as well; its AirPods ($159, apple.com) have been called one of Apple’s best fi rst- generation products of all time by tech experts. The earbuds can work with Android devices, but are easiest to pair up with Apple devices, and have good sound and battery life. Other wireless earbud options that rate highly among experts include the Jabra Elite 65t ($169.99, jabra.com), known for their comfort, stable connection and audio quality, and the Bose SoundSport Free wireless earphones ($199.95, bose.com), praised for their rich sound and secure fi t. »
