TOURNAMENT TYPE – UNI is trying for its third league tournament title, having won in 2010 & 2011 … With a 14-15 all-time Valley tournament record, UNI is 2-1 as a No. 4 seed (2005) … Tanya Warren is now 8-3 in Valley Tourney play; she has coached all of UNI’s games in St. Charles … Indiana State is still looking for its first Valley Tournament title, reaching the championship game in 2003, 2005 and 2006 … The Sycamores are 12-20 all-time in the tournament including 3-6 in St. Charles … Teri Moren’s teams are 2-3 in the tournament … The Sycamores are 0-2 as a No. 5 seed … INSU leads the series with UNI 39-24, including a 2-1 record in tournament meetings.

2013 REGULAR-SEASON MEETINGS – UNI started and finished the Valley regular-season with wins over Indiana State. Jen Keitel’s 13th produced her only basket of the game as she followed a Jacqui Kalin miss for a 54-52 Panther win Jan. 6 in Terre Haute. Kalin scored 29 points at the Human Center, then followed with 21 points in a 75- 59 Panther win last Saturday in Cedar Falls … in the game at UNI, INSU top scorer Anna Munn (14.7 ppg) scored a season-low 4 points. She had 10 in the game at Indiana State and 14 in the tournament game.

PANTHER PLAYS – Amber Kirschbaum’s 23 points were a season high and she had her 4th double-double of the year with 10 rebounds… Jacqui Kalin is just the third Panther in history to score 2,000 career points … Kalin is the second player in Valley history to earn Scholar-Athlete of the Year twice … UNI stopped an Indiana State streak of 392 straight games with at least one three-pointer in the Panthers’ 75-59 win last week … In 3 games against Indiana State this season, Kalin scored 72 points (18.0).

SYCAMORE SLANTS – Sophomore Rachael Mahan has already broken the INSU single-season record for offensive rebounds with 101 … Defense and rebounding are INSU’s strength—the Sycamores are 38-7 under coach Teri Moren when holding opponents to 60 points or less (11-37 otherwise), and are 3-11 this season when being out-rebounded.

FIRST HALF – Brooke Brown’s 3-pointer opened the scoring, Kalin and Jen Keitel followed with to make it 7-0 UNI. INSU missed its first 10 shots before Taylor Whitley drove to the left of the rim for Indiana State’s first basket … INSU didn’t have a until a traveling call at 13:21 … UNI led 12-4 at the under-12 TV time out, hitting 5-12 to INSU’s 1-12 FG … The INSU shooting woes reached 2-17 by the 7:52 mark, but UNI wasn’t much better at 6-18 … Hannah Schonhardt’s 3-pointer with 7:50 left gave UNI its largest lead at 18-9, but Indiana State responded with a 7-0 run started by Rachel Mahan’s rebound bucket-and-one to close the gap to 18-16 with 4:30 left … The Panther lead was 22-20 with 2:01 left when UNI closed the half on a 9-0 run with Kirschbaum hitting 2 free throws and jumper to put UNI ahead 30-20 at halftime … UNI is now 15-2 when leading at halftime … Indiana State is 4-8 when trailing at halftime.

SECOND HALF -- Back-to-back buckets by Jen Keitel and Kalin helped UNI to open its biggest lead at 34-22 with 17:36 left … UNI led 39-29 with 12:07 left when Kirschbaum scored the first six points of a 9-3 run which stretched the lead to 48-32 with 9:24 left ….Natalie Zurek hit 2 free throws and Munn drained 4 more to start a 14-2 INSU run sparked by 6 UNI turnovers. Taylor Whitley’s with 5:41 left cut the UNI lead to 50-46 ... After a Kirschbaum , Brown hit her 2nd 3-pointer of the game to push UNI’s lead back to 8 at 54-46 … From the 10:48 mark to the 2:38 mark, UNI made 9-12 field goals—Kirschbaum hit 5-6 of those field goals.
