Any ideas would be welcome & there was the possibility of adding a suggestion box in the club.

Any Other Business: JJ Maher enquired about a club function this year – 25 years on from Ballina's North Junior Hurling success of 1990. S Devane said there were Minor medals to be presented also.

C Bradshaw asked about Health screening on players. There was a need to keep players informed & updated. Agreed to try putting something in place & possibly including information about players Injury scheme.

S Devane advised that all mentors (especially underage mentors) needed to have their garda vetting updated. National GAA Draw – tickets need to be back Thu/Fri. Great prizes at no risk to club.

J Hurley brought up a point about player drop-out mentioned at AGM. He felt a discussion was needed on same. A brief discussion took place, with changing life circumstances, lack of game time; discontinuing playing any sport. To be addressed again at club forum. He emphasised need for players to be told of upcoming events & congratulated former officers particularly John Gleeson & Caroline McKeogh.

C Bradshaw mentioned the importance of having a player’s rep from both Junior & Senior panel (& possibly Minor)

Official Opening of new field: S Devane said club was on a list for challenge games involving Tipperary. There was an offer of Tipperary V Gort that weekend but club had turned it down as they were uncertain of field conditions & very little time to promote event.

Secretary’s Report It is a great privilege to present my second secretary’s report to the club. They are 16 years apart and it’s amazing to see the amount that has changed in that period.

Looking Back / Going Forward I don’t know how appropriate it is to compare different time periods, but looking back 16 years shows what has been achieved in the club. It is more appropriate when you consider, that we are finalising a plan for the next 5 years at present.

In those 16 years, the club has:

 Won its first Senior Hurling Title  Won its first North & County Intermediate Hurling Championship  Won its first North Junior “B” Hurling Championship  Won its first North Intermediate Football Championship  Won its first North & County Junior Football Championship  Won “A” Titles in North Minor & Under-21 Hurling Championships  Won “A” Titles in North & County Minor & Under-21 Football Championships  Played in two Munster Championship campaigns (Junior Football & Intermediate Hurling) – reaching a Munster club Intermediate Hurling Final in 2013  Had numerous representations on various County teams; including Munster & All- Medal Winners in both hurling & football  Continued to grow our Juvenile Club  Added a Camogie Club  Added a second playing field  Added/Upgraded a Hall & Kitchenette to the club complex  Added a cover stand  Integrated many people who were not born in the parish into the day to day running of the club.

This last item is very important, given the population trends within Ballina at present. According to the 2011 census, there were over 2,400 living in Ballina Village / Urban area. Ballina can now be considered a small urban area and this change is one of the biggest challenges facing us as a club. Going back 16 years, there was little more than the village of Ballina, with one or two estates & a moderately populated rural hinterland.

While it’s easy to measure success on the playing field, how do you measure it off the field? Has the last 16 years been successful? Has 2015 been successful?

With this in mind, our 5-year plan is/was essential. This plan has been excellently chaired by Peter King & he has coaxed, cajoled and led many people as he & his various committees have ultimately produced a very fine document. I will not go into too much detail on this document, but it is a document that I would urge every club member to read. Benjamin Franklin We will be guided by it for the next number of years & should be guided by it on any decisions we make here tonight. Just like all plans, this document should be reviewed on a regular basis & updated as new opportunities arise or new realities come to pass. Page 7 of 27

Senior Hurling After 3 years of an upward curve, Ballina would face championship games against some of the top teams in the county in 2015. The club would compete amongst the top 16 in Roinn I of the County Senior Hurling Championship.

County League / Challenge Cup

The panel & management prepared well for the year. In the opening round of the County League / Challenge Cup, Ballina lost out narrowly to Loughmore/ in Ballina. This was followed up a week later with another defeat – this time to Moycarkey/Borris in Littleton. Next up were South Champions Killenaule in the Quarter Final of the Holohan Cup. Ballina did well here and scored 4- Above: Ballina Senior Hurling Panel await Presentation of Holohan Cup goals on the way to an impressive home win. Our next game in the competition came in June, when Below: Brian McKeogh (Captain) accepts the Holohan Cup (Senior Ballina displayed very impressive point scoring Hurling) on behalf of Ballina ability to account for JK Brackens in the semi-final in .

The final took place in late August in the same venue & Moyne/Templetuohy provided the opposition. In truth Ballina dominated this game for large portions & from a very early stage looked likely winners. They seemed first to most balls and the accuracy throughout the field was good. Ballina led by 4-10 to 3-05 at the break. The lead could have been bigger only for a couple of lapses in concentration before half- time. Ballina continued to dominate the second half & ran out big winners in the end.

Congratulations are due to the panel & management team for achieving this success. This is the first Senior Hurling title to be won by the club. What was particularly admirable about the squad was that they continued to train after an early championship exit.

North & County Championship

The County championship began in April & Ballina were in a very tough group. Indeed the other 3 sides in the group would probably have been considered by many to be in the top 8/10 sides in the county.

Round 1 took us to & a clash with Clonoulty/Rossmore and we got a very rude welcome to top level Senior Hurling as Clonoulty had a goal within a minute or two. Whether it was this early set-back or something else, Ballina never got to grips with the game & Clonoulty were easy winners in the end. Round 2 took us to Newport & a tilt with Nenagh Éire Óg. Nenagh’s speed, strength & speed of thought, probably brought home the gap we must bridge in order to be in the top echelons of hurling in the county. Game 3 was against Templederry in Nenagh on a very wet Sunday in May. A win against Templederry could have ensured Roinn I status for 2016. While the performance was much improved, the result still went in favour of Templederry.

The North championship began the following Sunday in Nenagh against . Hopes were reasonably high going into this game and at half-time, there was very little between the sides. However in the second half the wheels came off the bus & Silvermines ran out comfortable winners. Round 2 was a must win game against Kilruane MacDonaghs in . Kilruane looked to be one of the form teams of the year & in most people’s eyes it was a case of how much Kilruane would win by. This view was probably reflected by a majority from within our own club. On the day, the players produced their performance of the year & were deserving winners over the hot favourites. Every player contributed to a great success. This success was based on hard work, pride & passion. The draw for Round 3 saw us get a bye to the Quarter Finals & a tilt again with Templederry. Again we were underdogs going into the game, but hopes & confidence was high. For 45 minutes, Ballina were on top, but injuries to key players over the last 10/15 minutes saw Templederry prevail by a small margin.

Other Competitions:

The Seniors played a lot of challenge games during the year & also played in the James McKeogh Memorial Tournament against Clonakenny. Clonakenny won this game.

Ballina also entered the Kilmacud 7’s with high hopes. At the beginning of the week we had 12/13 players up for the competition, but a Junior Football game on the Wednesday prior to the 7’s, saw a few players pick up knocks. On the Thursday/Friday, some players personal circumstances changed and we were down to less than 10 players. At this stage the Juniors were still involved in the championship and it was decided not to risk further injuries with these players & therefor we withdrew from the 7’s. It was an embarrassing call to have to make to Kilmacud and was met with disappointment from the hosts & also within our own club. It was a pity to end the year in such circumstances.

North League

Ballina started off away to in the league and for a variety of reasons, never got to grips with this game. In the course of the game Paddy O’Donovan suffered a serious injury & this greatly restricted his participation for the rest of the year. This was followed up with a narrow loss to Borris-Ileigh in . Further losses followed to Kildangan & to finish off a disappointing campaign. However there was some green shoots when, Ballina ran Lorrha close.

North Championship

There was a general acceptance that things would have to improve for championship. Ballina opened the championship with a draw against Shannon Rovers in Ballinderry. Like all draws – could have won it, but could have lost it. The next game took the team to Toomevara & a game against the home side. Ballina put in their best performance to date & recorded a good win against a side that has caused us trouble in the past. Ballina then took on Nenagh Éire Óg at home and were comfortable winners. The next game was also at home to a much fancied Lorrha side. Ballina looked to be in trouble here, but kept plucking away to record a narrow but deserved victory. The win meant that Ballina avoided the Quarter Finals and went straight to the semi-finals.

The semi-final brought us to Nenagh & a clash with . This was an exciting game all through, but a poor second quarter saw Portroe take a deserved lead in at the break. Ballina came back strongly and had the gap down to goal deep in stoppage time. With one last push, the ball ended up in the Portroe net, but after consulting his umpires, the referee disallowed the goal & Portroe advanced to the Final.

Well done to all involved on getting so close, the panel turned their season around after a very poor league campaign.

Junior “A” Football After the Senior Hurling season ended, most of the Senior Hurlers turned their attention to Junior Football. They started their campaign at home to Newport on a Wednesday evening. This was a good game of football, with the result in the balance throughout. In the end a draw was a fair result. However the team picked up a number of injuries. Next game was in Puckane against Lorrha. Again players travelled back for this midweek game. Ballina had an easy win. The final group game was against Shannon Rovers. Rovers were out of contention & conceded a walk- over. Ballina were now into the County Quarter Final & North Final.

Ballina’s next game was scheduled against Thurles Sarsfields. That same weekend Sarsfields played Intermediate & Junior Hurling championship & were unable to field. Ballina then went to Kilcommon to play Golden/Kilfeacle in the semi-finals. Golden started well & led from post to pillar. We never looked winning this game & conceding 3-first half goals did not help.

At the time of writing, the North Final has not been fixed V Newport. After getting so far in the competition, I hope we can bring back the North title.

Last year, serious questions were asked about football in the club & commitment to same. We enjoyed a reasonably good run this year, but no-one should get carried away by this either. The truth is that our Senior hurlers were finished before the football started. Would we have had the same commitment to Football if our Senior Hurlers were still involved?

We were unable to field in the Preliminary Round of the Under-21 Hurling Championship. There was a variety of reasons behind this.

In the Loser’s Group semi-final we played Newport Gaels in Newport. This was a brilliant game as both sides put in a tremendous 80 minutes hurling on a well prepared pitch. Coming close to Full-time, Ballina were 8-points behind, but rallied superbly to force the game into extra time. In the extra twenty minutes - both sides gave their best again, before Newport Gaels got over the line.

Under-21 “B” Football

We were drawn in a group with Burgess & Moneygall/Clonakenny. Our first game was scheduled against Burgess, but they withdrew. Our next game was fixed against Moneygall/Clonakenny. The winner of this game would advance to the Final. Unfortunately like the Under-21 Hurling, later in the year we could not field.

We have to ask questions about Under-21 Hurling & Football. One was played early in the year, one late in the year. Would switching them around make any difference? If we got to a county Under-21 Final in April/May, how would players be affected by summer exams? What about the middle of the year – would we be anxious to play Under-21 a couple of days before an important senior game? Would our opposition? Will there be many Under-21 players away for the Summer?

I think an uncertain GAA calendar is a hindrance to a lot of players & our own Under-21’s are no different. I don’t see any improvement around this in the short term. As a result, I feel that the will have to check on our players commitment to Under-21 Hurling & Football before we enter teams in the 2016 championships.

Despite my reservations above, the players on this panel have a bright future, if they can transfer the level of performance against Newport Gaels to future games.

Minor Minor “B” Hurling

7 teams were graded in the “B” Championship including Ballina. The championship started after the Leaving Cert. The Panel was a bit threadbare throughout the campaign. Ballina started the campaign in Lorrha and despite being close through-out, the home-side won. Borrisokane visited Ballina in the next game and proved too strong.

Ballina travelled to Ballinderry next and emerged with a credible draw. This game saw periods of dominance for both sides. This draw brought Ballina back into contention, but the next game in Moneygall effectively ended our chances of qualifying as Moneygall/Clonakenny were much too strong.

Ballina showed great determination to finally carve out a victory in this campaign. This was achieved at home to Silvermines. The team kept training away during the month of August, but the last game never materialised as Templederry were unable to field.

Ballina were in a group with both Kildangan & Inane Rovers. Inane Rovers withdrew from the championship. Ballina’s only group game was against Kildangan in Ballina. Kildangan won this game easily. Ballina then had to travel to Newport for a semi-final against Newport Gaels. Again we were outclassed in this game.

Unfortunately, our Minors did not have a great year & either did our Under-16’s indicating that we might be under pressure at Minor level again in 2016. This was flagged at last year’s AGM and in hindsight, maybe we should have done more investigations to these warnings. However, our coaching plan has identified some areas of concern & outlined possible solutions.

This year’s our Minor Hurlers played all their games in the space of 5 weeks. Our Minor Footballers played 2 games in 1 week. Is 6-weeks activity enough for the players? Should we consider pushing for a Minor Hurling & Football league to be played with-out Inter-County players? This could result in less championship games, but more games overall.

In 2016, only those over 17 (Born in 1998 or later) will be eligible to play Senior, Intermediate or Junior.

Management Teams: We welcome back Brendan McKeogh (Manager) & Adrian King as part of the Senior Hurling Management team for their 4th & 5th year respectively. They have met with other possible Coaches/Selectors for 2016 & these people are currently considering their options. Alan Small also served as Coach/Selector for the last 2 years & made a big contribution to the set-up. Thanks to you all for your efforts in the past & we wish you well in the coming year.

Adrian & Brendan also served as Junior Football Selectors for 2015 & at the time of writing, there is a small bit of unfinished business here – The North final V Newport. Best wishes to all in that game. Page 13 of 27

Junior, Under-21 & Minor Management teams have yet to be filled out. We welcome any suggestions or interest from people who would like to be involved with these squads.

2015 Selectors/Coaches were:

Junior “B” Hurling / Under-21 Hurling & Football: Sean Collins, Aaron Devane & Michael Hurley

Minor Hurling & Football: Michael Cryan (Football Only), Dermot Gleeson & Fran Hogan

Thanks to you all for your support & effort over the past 12 months. We hoped that you enjoyed your time & hopefully some or all of you will be able to get involved again in 2016.

People may wonder or question why this item is not on the agenda for tonight. There is a number of reasons behind this:

1. Most Managers/Coaches are approached by clubs well in advance of Year End. We need to be in a strong position in this regard 2. We need management teams in place earlier than here to fore. Already up to 30 players are going through strength & conditioning programmes, initiated by management. 3. We hope to speak to Managers and put in place a management team that everybody can work well together. 4. It’s no longer recommended as part of the function of the AGM.

Well done also to Michael Sheehy with Ballinahinch & Aaron Devane with Smith O’Briens. Both of these club men managed their teams to the Tipperary & Clare Intermediate Hurling Championship Semi-finals this year.

The Missing Years Reference was made last year at our AGM to the loss of players from Under-16 upwards. Our 5 year plan has looked at trying to correct this issue. This year 22 players played Senior Hurling Championship for the club. The average age of these 22 players is just over 25 years. This would be a common average age amongst a lot of teams.

However a more detailed breakdown, reveals that only 3 players born between 1987 & 1993 played Senior Hurling Championship in 2015. This means that we only had 3 Senior players in the 22 to 28 age group. 10 players were 29 or over & the remaining 9 were Under-21 or Minor.

At Junior Hurling, the age profile would have been similar. 31 players are listed above. 5 players would have been in the 22 to 28 age group, with again the remainder split between over 29’s (12) & Under-21’s / Minor’s (14). The average age in this group is also just over 25.

The graph below shows the breakdown of players & their Years of Birth.

So while we have a number of players coming through at the younger end, we also need to be mindful of keeping as many players as we can. Of the 53 players on the Senior or Junior Panel only 8 (15%) were over 21 & under 29. Why are we missing this cohort of players between 22 & 28?

 Emigration?  Lack of success at under-age?  Small amount of players born in these years?  Work/Family commitments?  Maybe there are other reasons

Whatever the reasons, this gap exists, we must be mindful of it & do all in our power to ensure that another such gap does not develop.

On another note is there another 7 players out there to bring this 53 players up to 60 or more & enough for 3 panels of 20?

Perhaps for the first 3, we can tie in a specific Total 10 Meetings Page 15 of 27

Everyone on the Committee worked hard and were drawn from a variety of different areas. The Finance Committee was represented by our Treasurer. The Committee was kept abreast of the financial situation during the year.

Perhaps we need to look at getting a few more committee’s set-up & involved. I.e. Coaching & Complex Development. I also believe that our County Bórd Rep should be added to the Executive Committee.

The committee also invited in some guests over the year such as Boher & Ballina NS and Club players. While we look for a players representative each year, everyone felt that the meeting with Senior Hurling Captain – Brian McKeogh was very productive in November. Hopefully arising from this, a player’s representative will attend once every 3 or 4 meetings. It is good to have a guest at meetings every so often.

Field Committee: We had a very hard working Field Committee in place this year & the fruits of their labour were to be seen on a regular basis. The field, complex & entire grounds looked very well all year & they implemented a lot of small changes in 2015. Our committee of John Gleeson, John Healy & Jimmy Hurley oversaw the Tús & FAS workers also. A huge thank you to all involved.

This committee is a great example of a committee working well. They have plans lined up for the next number of months. We should try to expand on committee’s like this as the year goes on.

It would be remiss of me, not to mention Ronnie Power at this stage. She took on the very difficult task of co-ordinating the field bookings for the year. I don’t think she could have taken on a more difficult task! We had a field operating at maximum capacity most nights during the Spring/Summer/Early Autumn. I would imagine that there were a lot of nights, where we could have done with an extra 4 or 5 hours. However she handled this task very well & hopefully with the new field, the pressure will ease on space in 2016.

Inter-County Tournament: This year, we thought we would get a game involving Tipperary Senior Hurlers around the June Bank Holiday Monday. We were assured that the Loser of Clare & Limerick would be willing to come to Ballina on that date. However after Clare lost to Limerick in the Munster Championship, they withdrew from this game. Tipp V Clare would have been a great crowd puller, but the way the day turned-out, we were probably as well off that the game did not go ahead. Tipperary Senior Hurlers trained in the field instead before a good crowd.

We are still top of the list for a Tipperary Inter-County Challenge, but in the present crowded GAA Calendar, I believe our best chance of a game is before the National League throws in. It mightn’t be the best time of year, but I think it’s the surest option.

Inter-County Teams: This year two of our players won Munster championship medals with Tipperary. Congratulations to both Michael Breen (Senior Hurling) & Steven O’Brien (Under-21 Football). Michael was also named on the Bórd Gais Under-21 team of the year, while Steven won a TG4 Man of the Match award for his display against Dublin in the All- Ireland Under-21 Football semi-final & followed up with the GAA/GPA player of the month award for May. Congratulations to both players. Two great ambassadors for the club.

We had a number of other players representing North & County at different age groups in Hurling, Football & Camogie. We as club members take great pride when you represent the club, your families & yourselves. It’s great to be able to say – “He is a Ballina man” or “She is a Ballina Woman” when you put on a County Jersey.

Players took part in Sigerson Cup, Fitzgibbon Cup & various other school & college competitions. Congratulations to all of you.

What’s in a name: You often hear people refer to the New Stand or Old stand in Thurles – only to be followed up with are you talking about the “New Old Stand” or the “Old New Stand” – confused? Perhaps it’s a small thing, but we now have two playing fields & what should we call them – The Old Field & New Field? The Main Field & Outside Field? Field Number 1 & 2? Should we put a name on the entire ground? Should we put a name on the stand or Club Complex? Something to consider going-forward?

PS with the new EirCode system; our club address is: Ballina, Co. Tipperary V94 WR91

Public Relations: Our relationship with the wider community is very important. We must continue to do what we are doing & improve where necessary, but we must also let the public know what we are doing. We can’t afford to hide our work. We must be visible & display what we are doing. Then when we get people through the gate, we must be welcoming.

Our public relations through various media outlets is vital. Congratulations to Sandra Blaser, who took on the roll of PRO in a very professional manner. She is always looking for news from within the club & I would encourage every team management group from Under-6 to Senior, to appoint someone from within to forward their news to the Sandra or the Juvenile PRO. At Senior Club level – we need to improve our photographic collection – between us all we missed out on a team photo for our Senior Hurling Panel after their Challenge Cup win.

We also have our online Media Presence – we hope to launch a new website in the near future. Our current address is www.ballina.tipperary.gaa.ie while at the time of writing we have 1,912 followers on twitter. Our Twitter handle is @Ballinagaa. It would be great if people from within the various selection teams would take access to the twitter account and tweet up-coming fixtures, as well as half-time, full-time scores etc. Our Facebook page has 1,354 likes. These Digital outlets may not mean anything to you, but for family or friends away from home, they are a vital means of keeping in touch. Our facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/ballina.gaatipperary Page 17 of 27

Finance: The club does not run on Fresh Air. Our Treasurer, Fergus Breen will take you through the various Income & Expenditure for the year & you will see that running a club like Ballina, takes a lot of money. Our Finance committee has some fundraising ideas for 2016 & hopefully you will all get behind these important initiatives.

Our regular income generators, like Lotto, County Bórd Draw, Golf Classic & Sports predictor quiz will have to stay in place for 2016. It is Important & great to get support for these fundraisers. Thank you all. Our Membership is another vital source of income & also gives you voting rights at the AGM.

This year, Timmy Ryan won first prize of a Car in the Tipperary GAA draw. Congratulations to Timmy on his success. However we were disappointed when we were denied the chance to host the following draw as is tradition. We felt let down by the Draw Committee. It was explained to us that the draw would be held in West Tipp as no draw had been held there in a long time. We haven’t hosted the draw too often either!!!

Juvenile Club: Congratulations to our Juvenile Club on another very busy year. As well as preparing for & taking part in various championships, they organised Tournaments, trips away & took part in Cul Camp. They are preparing our players of Ballina Cul Camp; July 2015 the future. Thanks to Eamonn, Ronnie, Sharon & Eileen for their Leadership.

Next year the club will host a team in Feile. The Camogie club will also host a team. This offers a great opportunity to create new friendships & links to another club.

Camogie Club: Our Camogie club continues to grow in strength & numbers. Thanks to Orla, Aidan & all involved in administrating a young & progressive club. The girls are now competing strongly with some well-established strong clubs. Page 18 of 27

Handball Club: The handball Club, falls within the remit of the GAA body, but in this club, we seem to operate as very independent & distinct units. We share many of the same players. Could we forge a closer link with the handball club & look at our common areas / problems with an aim to helping each other. Should we invite the handball club to have a representative on our executive?

Well done to the club & continued success for the future.

Sympathy: Since our last AGM a number of members & past members have passed away. We extend sympathy to the family & friends of Sally Darcy & Michael Tuohy.

Giving back to the Community:

This club is all about Community, Parish & Togetherness.

Use of our club complex & facilities gave us 2 prime examples of this.

Early in the year, Sarah Devane was approached about using (and agreed) the clubhouse as the start & finish point of the Pieta House “Darkness into Light” walk for Ballina/Killaloe. This proved a very correct & wise decision. Thousands gathered in the club ground early on Saturday May 9th. They walked to Killaloe & back into the Light of Ballina.

Well done to all who participated & stewarded. It was a very worthwhile event which will be held again in the club grounds on Saturday May 7th 2016.

In September, our Club PRO Sandra Blaser, recognised the growing will of the people to reach out and help with the refugee crisis. Two Van loads of clothing were sent from the community via the club house to Limerick for the cause.

While we are putting time, effort & money into our facilities, it should be

remembered, that we are there for the community & we provide a vital social & sporting outlet to the community.

As members we can be proud of what we have done. We have provided leadership when it was needed. Our players provide entertainment & joy (Sometimes disappointment). Our coaches & mentors provide time to help our players achieve their best. We are planning for the future. We are constantly learning & attempting to improve.

We are Ballina & together we will go forward to be the best we can be.

Thanks: I want to pass on a big Thank-you to everyone who helped out in any way, with the running of the club. Because I’m based in Dublin, I think I put extra pressure on my fellow officers. Sarah & Fergus were always there to take a call or attend to issues on a local basis. Des was called on a number of times & never failed. The rest of the officers & committee worked hard to advance Ballina GAA club.

Sarah has given unselfishly of her time in many capacities within the club. She has served as Intermediate Team Selector in the past & for the last number of years as club chairperson. Her remit was to lead the club in that time. She has led by example from making sure that the players lined out looking their best at all times as she looked after the jerseys to coordinating the various activities within the club. She was never more than a phone-call away & was always a friendly & helpful voice. This year, she also served as Tipperary Senior Camogie Selector. This young team made considerable progress this year & I’m sure Sarah will be at the forefront again this year as Tipp seek to make further progress. Sarah as you close this chapter on your involvement with Ballina GAA club, I look forward to working with you in other capacities & thank you most sincerely for your time & effort.

I also want to mention former Secretary John Gleeson, who was a great help also. John & Caroline along with Sarah have worked so hard for the club over the last number of years & hopefully we have maintained the standards they have set.

I also want to congratulate former Secretary, Player & Selector Paddy O’Brien who recently received a Sean Gael award from the County Bórd. Paddy has been a great stalwart of the club for many years.

Thanks to all the other people who have contributed to the club this year & many years in the past. People have contributed in a lot of different ways and means.

Thanks to my own family & parents for their support. Sometimes I had a Secretary based in Dublin & another one based in Tipperary.

Motions Motion (1): Given the introduction of the second field, and with a large number of teams and squads utilising both pitches, the complexity of managing access to this has increased in the past few years.

Proposal is that a “Field Liaison” is identified from each strand of the club – Senior, Juvenile and Camogie – to meet (or arrange via email) and agree a plan for usage of both fields on a weekly basis.

Michael Keely

Motion (2): A member who has served five full years in a specific Officership (Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer) shall be ineligible to hold that Officership for the ensuing 5 year period. The start / end of year is taken to be the AGM (and Adjourned AGM if held).

Reason/Further Explanation

To ensure members who become officers have a route out of the position. It also benefits to have renewed energy and approaches from incoming personnel.

Motions Submitted by Ballina GAA to Tipperary County Convention Ballina submitted the following Motions to County Convention. Motion 2 was agreed at a club meeting. Motion No 2 was not & if this AGM wishes, can now be withdrawn.

1) That the GAA at National level, introduce financial aid for clubs or discount for club members who purchase Match tickets through various retail/online outlets. Reason: Individuals (club members & non-members) can now purchase Match day tickets, in many outlets. This has affected club membership numbers / revenue. This motion is looking to encourage people to continue to join their club or else compensate clubs for lost revenue through lost membership.

2) Re-organise All-Ireland/Provincial Senior Football Championships as per attached National Football Leagues • Retain as here to fore – ensure Group Stages are played February / March & to conclude on 31st March or 1st Sunday in April (9 weekends) • Remove Division 1 Semi-finals • Finals to played on 3rd Sunday in April (Div 1 & 2) & the day before (Div 3 & 4) – Exception 14th Apr/Sat 13th Apr • All Knock-out games to include extra time

Retain Provincial Championship • The Provincial Championships would be retained as is, but must be restricted in time-scale – say the month of June, with the Provincial Finals in July. Earliest start allowed: 2nd of June (Exception 1st of June if it is Saturday) • The provincial Final to take place on the first or second Sunday in July (Exception Sunday 30th June) • All games to include extra time o Format: o Connacht (7 teams including London & New York): 3 Qtr Finals & 2 Semi-finals (Weekends 1 to 4) o Leinster (11 teams excluding Kilkenny): 3 Preliminary Rounds, 4 Qtr Finals & 2 Semi- finals (Weekends 1 to 4) o Munster (6 teams): 2 Qtr Finals & 2 Semi-finals (Weekends 1 to 4) o Ulster (9 teams): 1 Preliminary Rounds, 4 Qtr Finals & 2 Semi-finals (Weekends 1 to 4)

All-Ireland Championship (Sam Maguire Cup) • 16 Teams – made up of 8 All-Ireland Quarter Finalists from Previous year + 8 Provincial Finalists from Current year. • Draw Include in Schedule • Notes • *There will be overlap between these teams each year. Teams who got furthest in the previous year’s All-Ireland championship will be first in line to fill the missing places.
