The spy sound seemed appropriate for a song title that most every surfer can relate. If you surf, you're sure to have a secret spot. Enjoy!!! -surfgitar • Name: CUTBACK • SG101 username: surfgitar • Email: [email protected] • Website: http://www.cutbacksurfband.com 04 Baja Bound - Rick_Volcano My contribution for the 2009 MP3 Compilation. - Rick_Volcano • Name: Rick Volcano • SG101 username: Rick_Volcano • Email: [email protected] • Website: http://www.myspace.com/thevolcanos 05 Shang Hai'd - The Exotics Recorded in the late 90s on 8 track tape. I'm super stoked to participate in the 2009 Compiliation which was a goal I set when I started to learn to play. I give lots of credit to all the SG101 members for providing information, inspiration and motivation to get me to this point. I've still got a long way to go, so I encourage your feedback including tips or suggestions for improvement. I just hope you don't deactivate my account! -Pappa_Surf • Name: Rich Derksen • SG101 username: Pappa_Surf • Email: [email protected] 07 Out Of Control - BillyBlastOff This was a tune I threw together a while back when I bought a new toy. A Digitech RP7 valve foot pedal. Kind of a "heavy metal" meets "surf" tune. Had a blast doin' it. Recorded on a Tascam 424. (4 track). I'm playing all guitars, bass, and I used my daughter's Casio keyboard as a metronome. ;) • Name: Billy-Blast-Off • SG101 username: billyblastoff • Email: [email protected] 08 Meatyard - norcalhodad Recorded in my garage, on GarageBand. Fake tweed Peavey tube amps, reverb added in the mix! • Name: Blanko Dave • SG101 username: blankophonic • Email: [email protected] • Website: http://myspace.com/BlankoDave 11 The Wave Beyond - Paisley Hi all, this is a song I put together a year or two back. It was mainly recorded as a quick demo (before I forgot it!!) so there's a few idiosyncrasies on the track, but I kind of liked the vibe of it so I left it. Lead Guitar was a '65 Teisco TG-64; Signal path was the Teisco through a Roland SRE-555 Tape Echo, & into a Fender BF Vibrochamp. Rhythm Guitar was a '64 Gretsch Nashville recorded direct through the clean channel of a H&K Tubeman. Bass was a Jerry Jones Longhorn, & Drums were a bunch of Pads plugged into an Alesis D-4 & recorded to a sequencer (so I could fix my stuff-ups!! - lol) Hope you enjoy it. Cheers, Dash. Take a listen and let me know what you think. • Name: Todd Jansen • SG101 username: thehighfiverevival • Email: [email protected] • Website: http://www.myspace.com/listentothehighfiverevival 15 Archi's Adventures in Low-Fi - The Bookhouse Boys Some of you may have heard this a while back when I posted it in the demos section, but since it hasn't been "officially" released, I'd guess this is fair game for this comp. Ok, so this is called "Archi's Adventures in Lo-Fi." The title refers to the "lo-fi" recording style, including "scratches and pops" from a vinyl record. ("Archi," for those who care, is short for "Architeuthis." Look it up!) Recorded using PG Music Power Tracks Pro Audio, Fender Squire Strat, Ensoniq ASR-10 sampler, and Digitech Digiverb. -mournblade • Name: The Bookhouse Boys (aka, Vincent Pall Frank) • SG101 username: mournblade • Email: [email protected] 16 Ginza Lights - Jeff Leites This is my cover of the Ventures tune, Ginza Lights. I've been absolutely hooked on this tune for the past week. Named for the brightly lit Ginza district of Tokyo The Ventures wrote it (it may have been their first Japanese oriented tune) and used it as a filler for their 1966 LP, Go With The Ventures, but like the 'tail that wagged the dog', it became a huge hit in Japan and you can find a vocal version on YouTube by Masako Izumi and Ken Yamauchi. The Ventures later recorded a reggae version called Ginza Ska. I've incorporated some features of both versions in my cover. I generated the bass and drum tracks with Band in a Box. Everything else is played by me. --JeffLeites • Name: Jeff Leites • SG101 username: JeffLeites • Email: [email protected] • Website: http://www.lafn.org/~bb272 17 Telstar - 3rd Wave Our cover of Joe Meek's classic recorded live at the local pool hall/bar using a Korg 4-track. Lead guitar is played through an old Boss DM-2 analog delay which was fiddled with to get the "spacey" intro. 3rd Wave is: Casey Cash, lead guitar; John Hanor, rhythm guitar; Joe Mitchell, bass; Bob Walden, drums. • Name: Joe Meek • SG101 username: casey • Website: http://www.myspace.com/3rdwav 18 Gymnopedie No. 1 - The Pyronauts w/Ferenc Dobronyi Gymnopedie No. 1 by Erik Satie The Pyronauts with Ferenc Dobronyi [email protected] www.thepyronauts.com [email protected] Paul The Pyronaut - lead Bob Bitchin' - rhythm The Brett Cole - bass Timmy Stephenson - drums Ferenc Dobronyi - melodica On a cold and overcast Northern California beach, mist droplets fog the lens of a stationary shot of the waves. The film is grainy and out of focus, the horizon crooked, almost as if the camera was left on the beach unattended. Maybe a gull flies by, maybe not. A surfer with too many thoughts in his head is forced to admit that the surf sucks today. He walks away, but the waves continue to disappoint. Fade out. • Name: The Pyronauts • SG101 username: polloguitar • Email: [email protected] • Website: http://www.thepyronauts.com 19 Surf Rider - The Retronauts This is our band's (The Retronauts) live version of the classic "Surf Rider" written by Nokie Edwards of The Ventures. I'm old enough to remember when this song first appeared on The Ventures "Surfing'" album in the mid sixties. Most people under the age of 30 probably would know it better as "that surf song in the movie Pulp Fiction". - Rob_J • Name: Rob_J • SG101 username: Rob_J • Email: [email protected] • Website: http://www.theretronauts.com 20 Mosquito Dance - The Aquatudes We recorded this original of ours for the comp. We're The Woofers, that little surf band from Michigan that nobody gives a %#*$! about. But that's all about to change! Listen as we portray the saga of the playful impala and the hungry lioness on the plains of the African savannah.
