Godzilla's Growth We're All Pretty Excited Because the New Godzilla Movie Is Out. I Wonder If He'll Be a Good Or an Evil Godzilla’s growth Godzilla Artwork from: http://www.desktopbackgrounds.me/ We’re all pretty excited because the new Godzilla movie is out. I wonder if he’ll be a good or an evil Godzilla? I know he has been each before. He’ll certainly be destructive. I wonder how tall he will be? I know that he always has to stand above the buildings of the city that he is destroying. I’ve heard that in this movie he’s in Las Vegas, Honolulu, and New York. The first Godzilla movie was made in Japan in 19541. Godzilla destroyed Tokyo (which he has destroyed a number of times since that first movie.) At that time the tallest building in Tokyo was the National Diet Building. It was 65 meters (215 feet) tall and Godzilla was able to peak above the building. 1. Considering the angle that we might be viewing the before and after pictures below, about how tall do you estimate Godzilla to be? National Diet Building (65 meters/215 feet) - where Japan’s legislators meet – real building (left) and after Godzilla (right) 2. In the 2014 Godzilla movie, he destroys San Francisco. The Trans Am Pyramid building is apparent in both pictures below. About how tall does Godzilla appear to be in this 2014 movie? 2014 Godzilla destroys San Francisco. Trans Am Pyramid Building (260 meters/853 feet) 3. Godzilla was supposedly only 50 meters tall in the first Godzilla movie, (1954) yet he was able to peak above the National Diet Building. Does that make sense based on the picture? 4. In the 2014 movie Godzilla is supposedly 350 feet or about 106 meters tall in the. Does that make sense based on the San Francisco picture on the previous page? We did some research on line and found numbers that differed a bit from what he looks like. We’ll use these numbers to try to study his growth. We found these numbers that we’ll use for analyzing Godzilla’s movie data. First year of this size Years since 1954 Height in meters 1954 0 50 1962 8 50 1964 10 50 1965 11 50 1966 12 50 1967 13 50 1968 14 50 1969 15 50 1971 17 50 1972 18 50 1973 19 50 1974 20 50 1975 21 50 1984 30 80 1989 35 100 1991 37 100 1992 38 100 1993 39 100 1994 40 100 1995 41 100 1998 44 55 1999 45 55 2001 47 50 2002 48 55 2003 49 55 2004 50 100 2014 60 106 5. Create a scatterplot of Godzilla’s heights during these various years. Let 1954 be year zero on your x-axis. 140 120 100 80 60 40 Height of Godzilla in meters 20 0 0 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 Years since 1954 when the :irst movie was made. 6. Describe the relationship between Godzilla's height and time since first movie. Do you see a trend in Godzilla’s height through the years? 7. The 1998 film, Godzilla, (made by Roland Emmerich) was not reviewed well. There were two more sequels planned but those movies were scrapped because of the negative criticisms of the first movie in the series. One reason for the negative reviews by critics was Godzilla’s height. What do you notice about Godzilla’s height in 1998 as compare to the 2014 movie? Why might that height have been okay in the 1950’s but not in modern day? 8. With the box office success of the 2014 Godzilla, reports are that a sequel is on the way. Use the data that you plotted to predict Godzilla’s height in future movies or TV series. 1The1954 Godzilla movie was written and directed by Ishirō Honda and produced by Tomoyuki Tanaka. From the atomic allegory of Godzilla and the beguiling charms of Mothra to the tragic mystery of Matango and the disaster and spectacle of Rodan, The Mysterians, King Kong vs. Godzilla, and many others, Honda’s films reflected postwar Japan’s real-life anxieties and incorporated fantastical special effects, a formula that appealed to audiences around the globe and created a popular culture phenomenon that spans generations. Now, in the first full account of this long overlooked director’s life and career, authors Steve Ryfle and Ed Godziszewski shed new light on Honda’s work and the experiences that shaped it—including his days as a reluctant Japanese soldier, witnessing the aftermath of Hiroshima, and his lifelong friendship with Akira Kurosawa. Ishiro Honda: A Life in Film, from Godzilla to Kurosawa features close analysis of Honda’s films (including, for the first time, his rarely seen dramas, comedies, and war films) and draws on previously untapped documents and interviews to explore how creative, economic, and industrial factors impacted his career.

Introduction In the year 1954, the United States government performed 6 nuclear weapons tests in and around the Pacific Ocean. However, this is just the official story. The truth of the matter is that the U.S. Government and Monarch, a multinational, cryptozoological research organization, were trying to kill an ancient and terrifying apex predator. A Titan. This titans name is Titanus Gojira, more recognizably called Gojira or Godzilla. Godzilla’s species ruled the Earth hundreds of millions of years ago, when radiation levels on the planet were astronomically higher. The advent and testing of nuclear weapons awoke Godzilla from his hibernation on the bottom of Earth’s sea floor, where he was feeding off of the planets geothermal radiation. Despite being the first titan to awake, Godzilla is not the only titan that exists on Earth. There are countless others that still sleep or dwell in hidden areas around the world. You begin your stay within this world in 2014, just a scant few weeks before Joe and Ford Brody witness the awakening of the titan known as the MUTO. A scant few weeks before Godzilla becomes known to the world. Location San Francisco, California (1) San Francisco is a massive American metropolis with an area of about 231 square miles. It is bustling with a population nearing one million and holds some of America’s most iconic landmarks. However, this could all change very quickly in the coming years. This city will become the site of an incredible battle between Godzilla and the two MUTO in the year 2014, which will cause severe damage to the city as a whole.

  • By Goji-Anon
By Goji-anon The year is 1999, the turn of the mellennia. One year ago a monster believed to be Godzilla attacked New York City, although Japanese analysts have doubts. These doubts are justified, as the true Godzilla is soon to begin his rampage once again. This Godzilla is not a hero there to save humanity, but, a constant villain and a threat to all that lives on Earth. That is not to say his only opponents are humans, quite the contrary, the Earth is a lightning rod for strange phenomena. Aliens that can absorb information, genetic or otherwise; prehistoric insects that feed off of energy and grow in power from it, a monster made from the amalgam souls of those who died in the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Humanity is under siege from all sides and by forces of unimaginable power. However, humanity is not helpless in this fight. Their advances in science have given them a fighting chance against those who would destroy them. This is the world you enter Jumper. You could be the savior of humanity or their doom. To aid in your efforts Jumper you have been given: +1000 CP. The continuity of this era of Godzilla is convoluted with most of the films being direct sequels to the first film. Due to this you may choose whichever continuity-in the Millennium series- that you please. You will always start a week before the events of the film you’ve chosen. Locations Tokyo, Japan You begin where everything started. The epicenter of most of the goings on when in relation to Kaiju.

  • Godzilla and the Japanese After World War II: from a Scapegoat of the Americans to a Saviour of the Japanese
Godzilla and the Japanese after World War II: From a scapegoat of the Americans to a saviour of the Japanese Yoshiko Ikeda Ritsumeikan University Abstract. This paper examines how five Godzilla films illuminate the complicated relationship between Japan and the United States over the use of nuclear weapons. The United States dropped the first atomic bombs on Japan and created the first nuclear monster film, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953), which inspired the Godzilla series. The popularity of these Godzilla films derives from skilfully grappling with the political, social and cultural problems created by the use of nuclear weapons and science/technology, both inside Japan and in relations between Japan and the United States. This paper takes a historical perspective and shows how the Godzilla characters reflect these attitudes across time, moving from a scapegoat for the Americans to a saviour of the Japanese. Gojira (Godzilla) series An ancient monster, deformed by a series of nuclear bomb tests and expelled from his natural habitat, lands in Tokyo and starts destroying Japanese cities. Given the name Godzilla, he destroys these symbols of civilisation as if seeking revenge on humankind for creating such technology. Gojira,1 produced and released by Toho Studio, was a breakthrough hit in Japan in 1954.2 It was followed by 29 Japanese sequels and two American versions of the Japanese films, Godzilla, King of the Monsters (1956) and Godzilla 1985: The Legend is Reborn (1984). Gojira was Japan’s first export film and the series appealed to both Japanese and foreign audiences. Over the past 50 years, Godzilla has transformed in shape and character, playing various roles in the stories.

Abstract: Godzilla (1954) was an allegorical fi lm condemning America’s role in the testing and use of nuclear weapons. As the Godzilla series continued over decades, Japan’s relationship with America changed, as did the metaphors and references within the fi lms. In 2014, we now have the fi rst true American addition to the Godzilla series. This paper explores some of the ways in which Godzilla’s symbolic value has changed through the years, and as the series crossed cultures. Keywords: Godzilla, disaster, fi lm, nuclear energy “In 1954 we awakened something.” - Dr. Serizawa, Godzilla (2014) Godzilla was fi rst released in Japanese theatres in 1954, during a time of deep uncertainty for the nation. A mere nine years previously, the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had been devastated by atomic bombs, bringing an end to the war, and beginning an era in which Japan needed to fi nd a new identity as it began rebuilding its infrastructure, political processes, and social value systems. Japan had endured a foreign occupation, a dismantling of its military, a foreign re-writing of its constitution, and a demotion of its emperor from the status of deity, to that of fi gurehead.
