When you invest in your community through United Way, you help more children succeed in school, more families lead healthy lives, and more people grow their incomes to become financially stable.

Together, we make more impact than any one of us could create alone when we work toward a shared goal – eradicating .

OUR IMPACT

United Way funds 77 programs across Southeast Louisiana as part of our holistic approach to eradicating poverty and creating equitable communities where all individuals are healthy, educated, and financially stable. Below we highlight a success story in Washington Parish.

ADAPT, INC.'s Washington Parish Sexual Assault Center provided crisis intervention, criminal justice advocacy, and counseling for three small girls, their aunt, and her husband this past year. The girls had been neglected and sexually abused by their mother and her friends. Terrified to face their mother and the other perpetrators in court, their counselor immediately began providing emotional support to the family. A staff counselor provided testimony in court as to the emotional state of the children and how testifying in open court would retraumatize them - asking to use videos of the girls' statements and for any questioning to be done by closed-circuit tv. The judge granted the request, and the three young girls did not have to testify at all. By the end of the school year, the sisters were officially adopted by the aunt and her husband. In addition, the girls made honor roll in school, participated in a dance recital, and are actively engaged in a safe and nurturing home life. Thank you for your support and for helping to change these young girls' lives.
