Gelukkig het Marlene Spies se kontak my op die regte (trein) spoor gesit en het ek baie goeie inligting gekry. Nog een datum wat ek probeer kry is wanneer was die Spoorlyn by Heidelberg, Tvl geopen? As ek kon maak soos die ou treinstokers wat ek bewonder het as kind by Mafeking, dan sal ek ek 'n paar groot rook kringe uitblaas sodat dit hoog in die lug opvlieg en julle almal geluk wens vir 2006 O O O O O O Andre v R NS So gepraat van treine en nuwe jaar. Toe ons by Mafeking gebly het, het ons so reg langs die spoorlyn gewoon, by Montshiwa township in 'n compound (my pa was 'n bou inspekteur, dit was die dae van Lucas Mangope). Op nuwe jaar besluit ek en my stiefbroer dat ons bo op die treintrokke gaan hardloop wat op een van die syspore staan. Dit is mos nuwe jaar en al die spoorwegpolisie sou geparty het, en hulle is almal dronk. Ons is op die trokke en hardloop en spring van een trok na die ander, die volgende oomblik daag 'n spoorwegpolisie kar op en ons is af daardie trokke en vlug die veld in. Dit was die dae wanneer 'n ou kaalpoot rondgeloop het en geen duiweltjies of doringtjies kon ons stop soos ons hardloop met die polisie op ons hakke nie. Die nuwejaar het hier in Valhalla met `n redelike geraas begin. Het lanklaas so baie vuurwerke gesien. Siestog, al wat `n brak was het geblaf. Andre, ek is bly jy het jou informasie oor die lokomotief gekry. So "stoom" jy met jou no 104 die nuwejaar in. Die storietjie oor jul bly in Mafeking het my sommer met heimwee en trane gevul. Die tyd toe Paul my Mafeking toe geneem het om my oupa CM vd Heever se graf af te neem het ons by die polisiestasie gaan verneem waar`n sekere adres is. Een van die bittermin foto wat ek van my pa as kind het, is een waar hy saam met sy ouers en broer afgeneem is, ek skat so in 1937, pa is omtrent so 8 jaar oud. Agter op die foto was `n adres: - 120 West Street. Die straat het nou `n ander naam maar die huis is presies net soos dit daardie jare was. My oupa was `n kondukteer op die trein tussen Mafeking en Bulawayo en is toe dood in `n groot treinongeluk naby Plumtree, Rhodesia. Ons het die stasie ook afgeneem. Groetnis Annelie.     R 1 GREATER CAPE TOWN’S RIVERS 2005 STATE OF RIVERS REPORT RIVER HEALTH PROGRAMME i GREATER CAPE TOWN’S RIVERS 2005 OVERALL STATE OF GREATER CAPE TOWN’S RIVERS Generally, only a few of the upper reaches of the rivers in the greater Cape Northern Rivers Town area are still in a natural or good ecological state. Development in the lowland areas has modifi ed the rivers, resulting in their poor ecological state. Signifi cant stretches of most rivers have been canalised, have poor water quality, modifi ed fl ows and abundant alien fi sh and plant life. The ecological functioning and delivery of goods and services by these rivers have been severely reduced. Many rivers require rehabilitation. Central Rivers Eastern Rivers GREATER CAPE TOWN’S RIVER CATCHMENTS Southern Rivers The Steenbras, Sir Lowry’s Pass, Lourens*, Eerste/Kuils, Sand, Zeekoe, Silvermine, Else, Schusters, Krom, Bokramspruit, Hout Bay*, Salt, Diep*, Sout, Buffels and Modder rivers are situated within the greater Cape Town area. These rivers rise in the mountain ranges of the Hottentots Holland Mountains in the east and Table Mountain and Cape Peninsula mountains in the south west. Urban development is the predominant land-use in the low-lying areas, with the Cape Flats being the most densely populated. Other major land-use activities are conservation in the south, irrigated agriculture to the east and dryland agriculture in the north. Small areas of natural vegetation are found throughout these catchments. The rivers in greater Cape Town have been divided into the following four management areas: Southern; Central; Eastern and Northern.
