BrahmanDES/DEC 2020 30 31 In Memoriam WET Willie Steyn

Steyns Brahmane Stoetery, het ons begin in 2002. Daar was ‘n hele klomp kampioene wat ons geteel het, wat op verskeie skoue en kuddes gepresteer het. Ons het die hoogste prys op enige Nasionale veiling gedurende die kompetisiejaar 2014 behaal, vir ‘n koei en kalf, wat aan Riaan Theron (RAT Brahmane) verkoop is. Op vele skoue het ons raskampioene asook interraskampioene behaal.

Familie Uit die kring van ons ketting is ‘n kosbare skakel geneem, met pa se skielike afsterwe. Hy was ‘n liefdevolle, vriendelike, spontane mens, ‘n anker vir sy vrou, kinders en kleinkinders, asook ‘n vriend duisend. Hy het altyd ander se behoeftes voor sy eie gestel. Die aarde gaan leeg wees sonder sy borrelende persoonlikheid en aansteeklike lag, maar die Hemel is nou ‘n ligstraal ryker. Hy het almal met soveel liefde, deernis en respek behandel. Hy was altyd nederig en het net sy beste gegee. Hy het daarna gestreef om in vrede met almal te lewe. Sy kennis het hy met oorgawe en gratis aan almal uitgedeel. ‘n Myl en nog meer het pa vir ons geloop. Baie dankie vir die goeie voorbeeld, liefde en besorgdheid, waarmee pa ons almal altyd behandel het. As ons maar net ‘n krummeltjie van pa se goedheid en voorbeeldige lewe in ons kan hê. Ons mis die: “EK HET JOU LIEF. EK IS TROTS OP JOU. JY IS ‘N STAATMAKER”. Dit het ons geliefd laat voel. Afgesien van sy spontane, sosiale karakter was hy ‘n uiters bekwame, hardwerkende man. ‘n Baie netjiese en trotse boer, deeglik in die uitleef van sy dagtaak, met byna militêre presisie. In ons harte en geheue sal ons hom altyd liefhê en onthou, as een van God se kosbaarste besittings aan ons. Ons gaan pa baie mis, lief vir pa en rus sag. Mandie, Erik, Terrie en gesinne.

BrahmanDES/DEC 2020 32 Lano Schlebusch Gebore: 16/11/1941 Oorlede: 06/06/2020

Ek het Oom Lano as ‘n jong teler langs die skouring ontmoet. Hier het ons vriendskap begin en hy het al sy kennis van die ras met my gedeel, ek kon nie vir ‘n beter leermeester vra nie. Hy was inderdaad ‘n skouman par excellance! Ek kan een jaar goed onthou, al die rooi kampioene was die spesifieke jaar Adam-bulle. En was die nie ‘n pragtige gesig nie! Lano Shlebusch was ‘n man wat aan sy rooi brahmane geglo soos aan sy Bybel. Hy was boer in murg en been, ‘n rentmeester wat sy diere opgepas het. Adam Stoeterye is in 1981 gestig en Lano het groot spore in die bedryf getrap. Hy het saam met Callie van der Merwe as vise- president op die raad gedien en was ook ‘n senior beoordelaar, wat baie skoue beoordeel het. Hy het sy eerste koeie by Fritz Hein van Namibië gekoop en later ook Ike Eksteen se hele stoet. Saam met Ike het hy semen gekoop van die bekendste telers van Amerika-bulle soos onder andere WD en Millionaire van Henry Koontz. Lano het bewys dat jy suksesvol met brahmane in die Karoo kan boer. Hy was in Grey Kollege op skool en het verder aan Glen Landboukollege gestudeer en het op vele terreine leierskapsposisies beklee. Hy was vir ‘n kort ruk Australië toe waar hy vir die Universiteit van Nieu-Suid-Wallis vagtoetse gedoen het. Hy was op die hoofbestuur van die OVK, uitvoerende hoofbestuurder van die Noord-Kaap Landbou-Unie en ook ouderling in sy kerk. Vir Lano Schlebusch was daar nie ‘n ding soos kan nie en harde werk, positiwiteit, intergiteit, wysheid, liefde vir sy God sy familie en sy naaste was sy wese. Hy kon ook lekker spot en die blou oë het soms ondeund gelag. Hy was ‘n mentor, man met vaste beginsels, ‘n saak was reg ̕of verkeerd. Aan sy sy was sy vrou en formidabele steunpilaar Annalou met wie hy in 1966 getroud is. Uit die huwelik is 3 kinders gebore. ‘n Groot seder het geval. Laerskool Lucas Meyer waar ek Natal kleure in Rugby, Atletiek en Krieket verwerf het. Hoërskool by Michaelhouse waar ek Craven Week vir Natal gespeel het en toe ook later die jaar Sharks U/19 gespeel het en ons die onder 19 Currie Cup gewen het in 2008. 2009 het ek WP U/19 gespeel as ook 2 toetse vir die Springbok onder 19 span teen Frankryk. 2010 het ek WP Vodacom Cup span gespeel as ook Springbok U/20. 2011 Maties Varsity Cup en van daar af Leeus toe waar my loopbaan werklik begin het!! 2016, 2017 en 2018 in Super Rugby nale kon speel was iets onbeskryik. Die gees tussen die manne, die Respek en Liefde vir mekaar is iets wat ons seker nooit weer sal beleef nie!! My ouma hulle het van kleins af met Brahmane geboer. Dis waar my liefde vir die ras begin het. Ek het laasjaar met my stoet begin toe oom Willie Bekker sy uitverkoping gehad het . Vleissentraal en vier Beesrasse het op Vrydag 30 Oktober 2020 in Mabeskraal ‘n inligtingsdag gehou vir Veeboere in die distrik. BRAHMAN, Tuli, Bonsmara en Simmentaler was vertoon. Die suksesvolle dag is bygewoon deur ongeveer 250 mense, hoofsaaklik uit die onmiddelike omgewing van die bekende Sun City kompleks, Ramakokstad, Northam en Rustenburg omgewing. Die tema was ‘n samestelling van bemarking van vee, met sprekers: - Hans Terblanche van Vleissentraal, Onder- stepoort bemarkingspunt, - Seleksie van teelbulle, Sietze Smit van die Brahman Beestelersgenootskap van SA, - Seleksie van Vroulike teeldiere, aangebied deur mnr. Charl van Rooyen van die Tuli Beestelersgenootskap. Interessante, insiggewende vrae is deur die veeboere aan die sprekers gevra. Mnr Johan Odendaal van die SA Vetvee Beoordelaarsvereniging (SAFJU) het met ‘n praktiese verduideliking aangedui watter tipe speenkalwers word deur voerkraal aankopers verkies. Gerhard Steenkamp het ‘n praktiese demonstrasie gedoen oor die identifikasie van vee deur die brand en onthoring van kalwers wat bemark gaan word. Johan Pretorius van JFW-Brahmane, Hans en Lizemari Terblanche van Deblanque Brahmane, het Brahman beeste uitgestal. Tydens die geleentheid is die belangrikgeid van voeding, seleksie van goeie, geregistreerde Brahmanbulle en vroulike teelmateriaal beklemtoon. Die plek en tydige bemarking van jong diere is ook bespreek.
