Rabindra Jayanti‘ is the day which marks the birth anniversary of the great poet, philosopher and educationist Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941). Celebrated on the 25th day of Boisakh (as per Bengali calendar), this day is popularly called ‘Poncheeshe Boisakh’ and is celebrated ceremoniously all across West Bengal. Rabindra One of the most significant events in the cultural calendar of West Bengal, ‘Rabindra Jayanti’ is celebrated with performances primarily based on the Nobel Laureate, Rabindranath Tagore’s vast array of work—songs, dramas, poems as well as dances. Tagore not only wrote India’s National Anthem but Jayanti also Bangladesh’s National Anthem. We shall always remain indebted to Tagore for bridging Indian and Western cultures, through his literary and 2016 artistic contributions. This year, Swisspuja continues its tradition by organizing two cultural events in Zurich, starting in the morning with a ‘Probhat Pheri’ (a morning procession of people singing Tagore’s songs) and in the evening with a programme of songs, dances and recitations, followed by the famous dance drama “Chitrangada”. All are being performed by Swisspuja community members. Entry to the evening programme is by prior registration only, whereas all are welcome to watch the ‘Probhat Pheri’, as an audience.
