CNU STUDY ABROAD IN Early Summer 2018

The Course: “The Special Relationship: Britain and America” Immerse yourself in the culture of the United Kingdom. This course represents an opportunity for CNU students to study in Europe during the summer to examine the dynamic relationship between Britain and the United States across 400 years – from its roots in colonialism to its wartime alliances in modern times. We will use history as our laboratory to examine the economic ties, political transformations, and cultural interactions, and we will observe themes of Anglicization and Americanization in their various forms. Travel Dates: mid-May to early-June 2018 We will leave Virginia soon after finals to take advantage of pleasant weather, reduced airfare and crowds, and to allow students to use the rest of summer for work, classes, and relaxation. We will spend approximately two weeks in London and the surrounding areas.

What’s Covered: All CNU students are invited to join us. Earn 3 credits toward graduation or 3 credits specifically toward the History major/minor, Honors Program, and National Security Studies minor. The $3900 program fee, plus tuition (which is reduced for summer study abroad), covers all transportation, hotels, museum admissions, several meals, and course readings. The exact dates and price will be set given the number of participants and the precise airfare. Get your passport ready!

Faculty Leaders: Prof. Andrew Falk and Prof. Phillip Hamilton have each led several study abroad programs, including to London. We also have enjoyed many other travel experiences around the world and have personal contacts within the UK.
