Introduction The following tables set out performance in each neighbourhood in the West Locality.

These figures are taken from the Glasgow Centre for Population Health Profiles, published in 2010.

The tables have been set out with the worst performance (and therefore the areas that are potentially of greatest concern) at the top of the table, working downwards to those with the best performance.

The West locality has relatively low life expectancy, with the majority of neighbourhoods recording figures below the North West and the Scottish average for male and female life expectancy.

Every area except Knightswood East and Knightswood Park East records worse than the North West sector average for multiple admissions of people aged over 65. Only Knightswood Park East records a rate that is better than the Scottish average.

Between a fifth and one third of older people claim pension credit in 12 of the 15 areas in the locality.

5 Mental Health

Every neighbourhood records higher than the North West sector average and the Scottish average for patients prescribed drugs for anxiety and depression.

However several areas report better than average rates of psychiatric hospital admissions than the North West and Scottish average. Blairdardie West has the second lowest rate of psychiatric hospitalisation in North West sector.

6 Child health – Smoking in pregnancy and breastfeeding

Many areas record very high rates of mothers smoking during pregnancy. (The majority of pregnant women smoke in Drumchapel North and Drumry East).

Generally the areas with high rates of smoking during pregnancy record low rates of breastfeeding. However Knightswood Park East, which records a smoking rate worse than the North West average, records one of the best breastfeeding rates in the locality.

Only 1 neighbourhood in the locality records better than the Scottish average for children in Primary 1 with no tooth decay. Ten neighbourhoods recorded worse than the North West average and in these the majority of Primary 1 children had some tooth decay.

The locality records very high rates of children under 15 years being hospitalised as a result of non-intentional injury at home. Drumchapel North records the highest rate in the North West sector.
