Amen. Scan the Code Hail Mary, thrice; Glory, once. for More Info. (200 days indulgence, once a day). Saint Joseph: Spouse of our Blessed Mother Mary and foster father of our Lord, Jesus, Joseph is the Patron Saint of the universal church and of workers, especially carpenters. Saint John the Baptist: Son of Zachary and Elizabeth, and cousin of our Lord, John was the first prophet of the New Testament as he announced the coming of the Lord Jesus. He baptized Jesus in the Jordan River and was beheaded for his zeal and steadfast faith. Saint Ann: Mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary and wife of St. Joachim, St. Ann is often invoked as a patron saint of the sick. According to the 2nd century Gospel of James, she and Joachim dedicated their child Mary in the temple. La Milagrossa: Together with St. Catherine Laboure, a Daughter of Charity to whom the Blessed Virgin appeared, Our Lady revealed St. Catherine’s mission when she saw a picture of Mary standing on a globe of the world with light streaming from her hands. Around the head of the Virgin were the words, “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.” Saint Jude: One of the original apostles and considered a relative of Our Lord, St. Jude asked Jesus why he did not manifest Himself to the rest of the world, and Jesus answered that he and the Father would come to dwell with all who would come to believe in him. Also known as St Jude Thaddeus, he is the patron of hopeless cases. Saint Lucy: As the name "Lucy" means tight, it is perhaps most appropriate that her feast day, December 13, comes near the winter solstice, the shortest time of the year. St. Lucy is the patron of those with ailments of the eyes. Saint Anthony Abbot: Known as the Father of Monks, St. Anthony was born in Egypt around the year 250. Following the death of his parents, Anthony distributed his possessions to the poor and withdrew into the desert and lived a life of penance and solitude. Saint Rocco: St. Rocco tirelessly nursed many of the sick during the plague in Italy. When he himself became sick, he went into the woods where he planned to die quietly in prayer and meditation. While awaiting death, a dog miraculously brought him food and licked his sores and cured him. Many pray to St. Rocco to free themselves from diseases of the skin. Our Lady of Grace: We acknowledge this title for Mary as she was the mother of Jesus, Our Savior and the source of all grace. In this role as mother of Jesus, Mary carried the source of all grace in her womb. It therefore, reasonably follows that Mary would continue to be the vessel or mediator of grace from Jesus to us, her children. Saint Anthony of Padua: His great success was in France and Italy and in converting heretics. His sermons are noted for their gentleness and learning. He was the first member of the Friars Minor to teach theology to his brothers. We all know St. Anthony as the patron saint of lost things. "St. Anthony, St. Anthony, something’s lost and must be found ..." Saint Rita: St. Rita was born in Umbria in 1381. Married to a brutal husband and bearing two sons, she urged forgiveness rather than retribution when her husband was murdered. She later became an Augustinian nun and spent 40 years in prayer, contemplation and acts of charity to the sick and the poor. St. Rita is the patron saint of desperate situations. Our Lady of Assumption: Among the many graces afforded to Mary, the Mother of God, is her glorious assumption into heaven. Upon her death, Mary was assumed bodily into heaven, as a sign of our own future resurrection into heaven. This belief was declared an infallible teaching of the Church by Pope Pius XII in 1950. Saint Vincent Pallotti: Vincent Pallotti was born in Rome on April 21, 1795. He was ordained a priest and was a teacher, a founder of a religious congregation, a spiritual director, and was considered a visionary. Nearly 100 years before the Catholic Social Worker Movement, Vincent founded the Union of Catholic Apostolate in 1835. Our Lady of Guadalupe: In 1531 the Virgin Mary appeared to a Mexican peasant, Juan Diego, at the hill of Tepayac. The Spanish translation "de Guadalupe" from the original Aztec means "she will crush the serpent of stone.” Under this title, she is the patroness of social justice and the unborn as she appeared to St. Juan Diego as a pregnant woman. Padre Pio: Padre Pio was born Francesco Forgione in 1887 in a small Italian village named Pietrelcina. He became a Capuchin priest and was much sought after as a spiritual advisor, confessor and intercessor. Devoted to prayer Saint Martin de Porres: Martin de Porres was born in Lima, Peru to a Spanish father and a black slave mother. He became a Dominican lay brother and with great humility ministered to the poor and the sick, especially African slaves. Martin was a close friend to Rose of Lima and devoted to the Holy Eucharist. Saint Lucy Filippini: She was orphaned as a child and grew up with her aunt. Her education came from Benedictine nuns at Santa Lucia. Throughout her life she founded schools for women, and especially the poor. She was called by Pope Clement XI to work in Rome. She alter died of breast cancer in 1732. Sacred Heart of Jesus: The Sacred Heart of Jesus is a symbol of God's forgiveness, mercy and love. Jesus gave himself out of love on the wood of the cross. We celebrate the Sacred Heart of Jesus on Friday, two weeks after Our Lady of Mt. Carmel: Mary appeared to St. Simon Stock, a leader of the Carmelites, and gave him a scapular, telling him to promote devotion to it. The scapular is a modified version of Mary’s own garment. It symbolizes her special protection and calls the wearers to consecrate themselves to her in a special way. The scapular reminds us of the gospel call to prayer and penance—a call that Mary models in a splendid way. This feast was first celebrated in Hammonton with a small procession consisting of Italian immigrant farmers 139 years ago. The Our lady of Mt. Carmel Society, comprised of many of these farmers' descendants, has continued this glorious celebration to this day. BUONA FESTA! • NICCSJ Novena to Our Lady of Mount Carmel 2021
NICCSJ 2021 Novena to Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Feast Day, July 16th) Mount Carmel is the biblical site where the prophet Elijah battled with the 450 priests of Baal, which led to their defeat and ruin. It was also where Elijah sent his servant seven times to the mountaintop to look for rain after years of drought which ended as he proclaimed (1 Kings 18:19-44). The title of Our Lady of Carmel can be traced back to the hermits (Carmelites) who used to live in the renowned and blessed Mount Carmel. These pious and austere Carmelites prayed in expectation of the advent of a Virgin-Mother. Thousands of years later, our Lady, Mary appeared to St. Simon Stock, a Carmelite priest, in the exact same location on July 16th 1251. In this appearance of Mary, she is known as Our Lady of Mount Carmel. She appeared holding Jesus as a child in one arm and on her other arm, a Scapular. She promised that all those who wear Scapular and follow Christ faithfully will be brought by Our Mother Mary into heaven at their deaths. Praying the Novena to Our Lady of Mount Carmel has been an age-long practice through which Christians have entrusted their intentions to God through the powerful intercessions of our Mother Mary. Let us continue to share in the maternal love our Mother Mary by praying this Novena with devotion and attention. • Our Lady's Garment the Brown Scapular
Our Lady’s Garment The Brown Scapular: A Sign of Salvation and Protection The Brown Scapular, the Most Powerful Sacramental “Whosoever dies clothed in this Scapular shall not suffer eternal fire.” - words of Our Lady to Saint Simon Stock (See the full promise on page 16) Such is the extraordinary promise Our Lady makes to those who wear Her Brown Scapular. And this wonderful promise makes the Scapular the most powerful sacramental Heaven’s mercy has given us. Who could doubt Our Lady’s promise, or be so foolish as not to wear, with profoundest gratitude and reverence, this abbreviated form of the Carmelite Mantle? This garment of grace — two simple pieces of brown wool worn over the shoulders — is a tangible sign of the Blessed Mother´s love and protection for Her devotees. We should kiss the Scapular devoutly when rising in the morning, and every time we put on a new Scapular to replace one that is worn or damaged. For this gesture of reverence, we receive an indulgence of 500 days, and we are also reminded to ask Our Lady: “Preserve me this day from sin and the occasions of sin.” Wearing the Scapular, a Form of Consecration Wearing Mary´s Scapular is a way to consecrate ourselves to Her service. Consecration sets apart a person or thing for a sacred purpose. Every Catholic should be consecrated to Mary. Our Lady of Fatima, on October 13th, 1917, held the Brown Scapular in Her hand, making the three child seers, Lucy, Jacinta and Francisco, understand that She wants all of us to wear the Scapular.

  • Queen of Heaven Catholic Religious Awards Program Leader and Parent Guide
.. ··• Queen of Heaven Catholic Religious Awards Program Leader and Parent Guide FORWARD This program has been developed by the Catholic Committee for Girl Scouts, Camp Fire and Junior Catholic Daughters of the Dallas Diocese. It is designed· for use of Catholic members of ·these organizations, age 10 to 12 years. It is not designed as a substitute for a formal religious education program. The overriding goal of this program is to show Mary as the model of all Christian virtues. By reading the Bible passages, reflecting upon the Mysteries of the Rosary and learning the feasts honoring Mary, the girl should learn that she can look to Mary as a model for every situation in her own life. This program is a progression from the Lady of Guadalupe emphasis on Mary as our mother, and a preparation for the Marian Medal. · While the booklet can be completed by a girl working on her own, the Committee recommends that leaders consider a group format. This promotes greater understanding of the topic as girls share their ideas. Try to encourage participation by all Catholic girls, not just those in troops associated with the parish or. school. There are many Catholic girls in public school troops who may want to participate. Consider an announcement in the parish bulletin to help get the word out to all who may want to join your group. · Leaders should refer the non-Catholic members of the troop to the religious awards program of each girl's faith. Pray Publishing can provide information on these programs. See www.praypub.com.
