H.A. CONTRIBUTES TO THE EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS HACC believes in sensitizing students towards the suffering, irrespective of nation, class and culture. Following this principle, the college collected funds for the Nepal Earthquake victims even after the official end of the college academic year. The principal, staff and students contributed towards this fund and collected fourteen thousand rupees which were donated to SEVA BHARATI – GUJARAT for the aid of those suffering from the effects of the earthquake. 20 June 2015

H.A.C.C. CELEBRATES ITS 60TH BIRTHDAY! The staff and the students of H.A. College of Commerce celebrated the completion of fifty nine years of the establishment of H.A. College of Commerce on the 20 June. This is the 60th anniversary year of the college. The story of Haridas Achratlal College of Commerce began in 1956 when Sheth Shri Haridas Achratlal, a philanthropic businessman and visionary, made a generous donation to Gujarat Law Society to establish this educational institute. The staff and the students of the college cut a cake to mark this occasion. The college proposes to have many other celebratory events during this anniversary year. 21 June 2015

YOGA FOR BETTER LIVING H.A. College of Commerce celebrated International Yoga Day on 21st June 2015 at the GLS lawns. Prof. Viral Raval from Lakulish Yoga University addressed the gathering of staff and students. He spoke about the significance of Yoga, the need to practice it in contemporary times, and the huge benefits of this ancient Indian system of wellbeing. He also demonstrated different yogasanas with agility and flexibility. Then he went on to make the audience also perform different asanas. The students and the staff tried out various positions and postures as directed by him. He also made the audience do some breathing exercises of pranayam and kapaal bharati. About 150 students participated in the programme, and fifteen staff members were present. The principal, Dr. Sanjay Vakil, spoke to students about the importance of yogic practices in students. Dr. Bhalchandra Joshi, Registrar, Gujarat Law Society, encouraged the students with his presence. Dr. Anuradha Pagedar, Professor of Business Laws, anchored the programme. At the end of the programme, the students and staff were invited to a breakfast of milk and bananas, as well as coffee and biscuits. It was an enriching and refreshing programme. 22 June 2015

LIBRARY RENOVATION As part of the preparation for the Reaccreditation process the college team of students and staff re-arranged the library of more than 30,000 books. These volunteers spent an extra 5 hours daily to arrange the books, make a log of the newspapers and magazines, and re- organize the furniture. They also come on holidays and Sundays to accomplish the task. In the process of arrangement, they glued the torn pages of certain books and covered some of them to prevent the further damage. They segregated and labeled the books to make for an easy access in future. 26 June 2015

HACC JOINS HANDS TO STOP ADDICTION HACC, in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau, conducted a programme to teach students the dangers of drug abuse. This programme was hosted with the international courier association, Ahmedabad, on the occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 26 June. Students were given pamphlets and information about de-addiction. The college also distributed the pamphlets to the students seeking admissions. 10 July 2015

INAUGURATION OF 60TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION & ORIENTATION The College combined the commencement of the academic year with the beginning of the 60th anniversary year celebrations. 20th June 1956 is the establishment day of the college, and therefore, when the academic term for the first year students began, the anniversary celebrations of this jubilee year were also inaugurated. Shri Pankaj Joshi, the Chief Secretary, Education, was the chief guest of the function, and the college released the anniversary logo made by the staff and students, as well as a book about the past of the college and the plans for the year. 10 July 2015 21 July 2015

EYE & DENTAL CHECK-UP In association with e-swasthya, the college organized a free eye and dental check-up camp for students and staff members. Ophthalmologists and dentists of repute came to the college to render their services. 21 July 2015

CELEBRATION OF UMASHANKAR JOSHI’S BIRTH ANNIVERSARY The 104th birth anniversary of the great poet, Umashankar Joshi, was celebrated at the college with a guest lecture by Dr. Parul Rangparia, Associate Professor of Gujarati at Smt. L & C Arts College. She spoke about the versatility of the personality of this gujarati writer and recited some of his poems. 27 July 2015

LECTURE ON SELF DEFENCE BY A.C.P. KANAN DESAI Ms. Kanan Desai, IPS, visited the lecture to deliver a lecture on self-defense and women empowerment. She spoke about how girls and women are not helpless and have the strength to defend themselves if they use the right techniques. She then went on to demonstrate some of these self-defense techniques to the girl-students and taught them how to use these. 31 July 2015

CELEBRATING GURU PURNIMA The students paid homage to their teachers on Guru Purnima, and showed their Indianness. They placed vermilion on the foreheads of the teachers and offered them flowers. Then they bowed down and took blessings from their gurus. 4 August 2015

BLOOD DONATION CAMP The college conducted a blood donation camp in collaboration with Red Cross of India. The NSS unit of the college organized this camp and about 50 units of blood were collected from the staff and students. 7 August 2015

LECTURE ON HEALTH & FITNESS BY ALUMNI RAJAN DALAL Shri Rajan Dalal, an alumnus of the college and a fitness expert, addressed the students on Health and Fitness in the present times. He spoke about the dangers of fast food and the utmost importance of exercise in a world of desk jobs and stress. 10 August 2015

LECTURE ON FOCUS & CONCENTRATION BY SWAMI SHRI SHYAM DAS Swami Shyamcharandas: The students of the college were given an interesting talk and shown a presentation on the art of focus and concentration by Swami Shyamdas from the AkshayPatra Foundation, Ahmedabad. Swamiji conducted this interactive session explaining how the ancient scriptures teach very contemporary and relevant lessons about mental concentration and focus. 12August 2015

SEMINAR UNDER VANCHE GUJARAT HIGHLIGHTING GUJARATI LEXICON APP Under the “Vaanche Gujarat” initiative, the college had a short seminar on the introduction to novel initiative of the Gujarati Lexicon app for mobile phones. This app, made to promote the Gujarati language and based on the online Gujarati lexicon, was demonstrated to the students through a presentation and was given to the students to upload on their mobile phones. 14 August 2015

ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR NEW NSS CANDIDATES Students who are interested in social service were given an introduction to the functioning of the National Service Scheme (NSS) programme. They were encouraged to join the NSS unit of the college. After the orientation, students were registered for the same. 20August 2015

VISIT TO IIM AHMEDABAD On 22nd August, 2015, sixteen students from HACC attended the “Undergraduate Open Day” at the IIM-A. They organized sessions on topics like bidding, auctions, a live presentation of the company dealing with the real life situational events. The history behind the prestigious institution and the various iconic places and reasons behind them were made explained by the students such as the “Harvard Steps, The RJ Matthias Auditorium, Vikram Sarabhai library the architectural surroundings, etc about the campus were described before the students. The story behind many successful scientists, philanthropist, bankers, academicians, writers, etc, were been explained to the students. How they live in the campus was described like “How an IIM-A’ns would live a life here”. A panel discussion at the RJM auditorium was organized by a panel of the PGPX second year students were presented before the students along with the dean of the institute Dr.Ashish Nanda were they spoke about how to get into IIM-A . They spoke various initiatives which were being organized by the students of the institute such as SMILE which is a foundation organized for the welfare of the underprivileged children’s and they requested every single spectators to join the initiative. At the end there was a closing acknowledgment ceremony been taken place by the entire IIM-A staff and volunteers. Further the service for the lunch and a photo sessions were being made arranged for the students. 22August 2015

HACC STUDENTS LEARN AT "WORKSHOP: FIRST STEP TO BANKING” H.A. College of Commerce organized 4 day’s workshop: “First step to Banking” which was conducted by NIIT, Ahmedabad during 19Th to 22nd August 2015. Nearly 200 students participated in workshop showing keen interest. Experienced & Experts faculty from banking field were invited to conduct the workshop. Students learnt about recent practices in banking system like KYC, Negotiable Instrument, Anti-money laundering with case studies. Principal Dr. Sanjay Vakil, in his welcome address said that such workshop really proved to be meaningful and relevant in context with Prime Minister’s Youth skill Development Programme. This would be useful to the students intending to build career in banking sector. On the last day of workshop students also appeared in MCQ Test and they would get certificates too. 28August 2015

CELEBRATION OF ZAVERCHAND MEGHANI’S BIRTH ANNIVERSARY The birth anniversary of national poet, Zaverchand Meghani, was celebrated at the college with a lecture on the life and works of this great writer. Dr. Arvind Vaghela, Associate Professor of Gujarati, spoke to the staff and the students about the intricacies and depth of Meghani, and how this writer could use words to create waves of patriotism and pride towards one’s own culture. 4 September 2015

TEACHERS’ DAY CELEBRATION HACC celebrated Teachers’ Day with great enthusiasm. The students participated actively by becoming teacher for a day, to show their respect and love for the professors they gave gifts & cards a group of students also brought cake and principal did cake cutting. College of Commerce Hosted Youth Festival, Ellisbridge- South Zone S A N G A M -2015- Where Rising & Shining Talent Converge To mark its 60th anniversary year, HA College of Commerce hosted the Gujarat University Ellisbridge South Zone Youth Festival this year at the GLS premises on the 9th, 10th and 11th of September. Out of the 102 colleges of Gujarat University in this zone, more than fifty colleges participated in the 27 different competitions. There were about 900 students who had registered themselves for the different events, which were held simultaneously at Tagore Hall, Thakorebhai Hall, GLS Auditorum and the college premises. The inaugural programme was presided over by Shri Bhupendrasinhji Chudasama, Hon. Minister of Education, Gujarat. Dr. B.H. Joshi, Registrar, GLS, Dr. Sanjay Vakil, Principal, HACC, Dr. V.K. Chavda, Director, Youth Welfare Dept., Gujarat University, Dr. M.R. Sonara, Co-ordinator and Dr. A.V. Pagedar, Joint Co-ordinator, were the dignitaries on the dais. As this is one of the most competitive zones of the university, all the participating colleges witnessed and experienced an extremely high level of competition in all the events. Judges who were invited from the city were all experts and renowned exponents in their fields. The timetable was scheduled in such a way that students could participate easily in all the events without facing a time clash. The results of the events were declared at the valedictory function, which was a grand event held at the GLS lawn. The entire atmosphere reverberated with the sounds of victorious colleges and cheering screams. The entire youth festival was successful due to the hard work and intense efforts of the whole HA parivar, which were augmented by the GLS management and all the sister-institutions. WORKSHOP ON SWACHHTA BY M.P KIRITBHAI SOLANKI HACC organized a guest lecture to boost the efforts of the students towards the Cleanliness drive in the country. This lecture by Shri Kirit Solanki, MP, Ahmedabad (West), revived the gusto of the students towards paying an appropriate tribute towards Mahatma Gandhi when the country will celebrate his 150th birth anniversary in 2019. Therefore, the time to work towards a Swachh Bharat is now, he said. 16 September 2015

H.A TROPHY AN INTER COLLEGE ELOCUTION COMPETITION The college conducted its annual H.A. Trophy Elocution competition for all the institutions of Gujarat Law Society. About 21 students from different institutions participated and spoke on “The Relevance of Gandhian Ideology in Contemporary Times”. 22 September 2015

EXHIBITION OF POSTERS, PHOTOGRAPHS, SLOGANS ETC. ON SWACHHTA All the various drives for cleanliness undertaken by the college during the last year were showcased in the Swachhta Exhibition held at the college. The media coverage, the photographs and details about the different swachhta activities, and posters on cleanliness made by the students were displayed in the exhibition room. The Mayor of Ahmedabad City of the time, Smt. Minaxiben Patel, and Shri Sudhir Nanavati, Executive Vice-president, GLS, inaugurated this event.

HOSTED SRI SATYA SAI ELOCUTION COMPETITION In collaboration with the Sathya Sai Seva Foundation, the college organized the Sathya Sai Elocution competition for colleges from all over Ahmedabad District. About 25 different institutions participated in this competition and spoke unanimously and assertively about the necessary relevance of honesty and truth in our times. 2 October 2015

CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL NON-VIOLENCE DAY A panel discussion on Gandhiji and his ideas of non-violence was conducted in the college on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti. Different faculty members expressed their views on Gandhiji and students responded to these. 16 October 2015

LECTURE ORGANIZED BY CWDC ON GENDER SENSITIZATION Social reformer and faculty at H.K. Arts College, Dr. Falguni Parekh, spoke to the students about women empowerment and the importance of the girl child. LECTURE SERIES (CLIMATE CHANGE, ICT & HUMAN RIGHTS) Climate Change (19 Oct. 2015): Dr. Alpana Shukla from MG Science College delivered a guest lecture. She encouraged the commerce students of the college to develop a scientific approach and control pollution by adapting simple desirable changes in their lifestyle. Usage of ICT in Education (20 Oct. 2015): Dr. Harbhajansingh Sarvaiya, Faculty of English at Science College, was invited as guest lecture to speak about computer technology in education. He spoke about how technology could enable mass coverage, repeated coverage and interesting coverage of higher education lectures. NAVRATRI MAHOTSAV H.A. College of Commerce organized garba for students on auspicious day Sharad Purnima, 27th October, 2015. INDUSTRIAL VISIT An industrial visit was organized by our college on Wednesday 28th October 2015. 52 students of BCom. Sem-V participated in the visit. First the students were taken to Xcellon Business School, where they attended a practical session of 90 minutes on managerial skill development. Thereafter, they were taken to the automatic manufacturing plant of Claris Life Sciences Ltd. which is an international company manufacturing bottled medicines. The students were given thorough understanding of the company’s manufacturing process. We are thankful to Prof. M.S. Vasava and Sameer Yadav (B.Com. SARDAR PATEL BIRTH ANNIVERSARY The college celebrated the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel with a guest lecture by Dr. Arun Vaghela from the History Dept. of Gujarat University. He spoke about the life and personality of the great iron man of India. 1 November 2015

ALUMNI- PARENTS MEET To make familiar with the NAAC process, parents of current students and alumni were invited by the college to interact more than 100 parents and alumni assured their full support to the college in the in all the possible ways. VISIT OF ALUMNUS MR. CHIRAG PATEL, AND FORMALIZATION OF MOU WITH NJCU On 28th December, Mr. Chirag Patel visited the college to discuss the finalization of the Patel Scholars Programme. After spending time with the Principal and Faculty members of the college and reminiscing about his college days, he spent some time discussing how best he could help more students even outside of the MoU with New Jersey City University. He then met with Shri Sudhir Nanavati, Executive Vice-president, GLS, and finalized the Memorandum of Understanding between HA College of Commerce and New Jersey City University that will facilitate exchange of teachers and students, and will sponsor the tuition fee of three students who wish to pursue a management post-graduation at the university. The tuition fee amounts to Rs. 11 lakhs per student per year. For three students for three years, this amounts to over one crore rupees. Shri Sudhirbhai Nanavati warmly welcomed the Registrar of GLS, Dr BH Joshi, Principal of HACC, Dr. Sanjay Vakil, and some of the staff members of the college for breakfast to his residence where Mr. Patel and he were to discuss different aspects of social commitment towards nation building. The meeting between Shri Nanavati and Mr. Patel was one that was between philanthropists and socially responsible citizens. Both being alumni of HACC, it was proud moment for the college to see how the past students are concerned about the future and the present of the institution. NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON: “THE STATUS OF COMMERCE EDUCATION IN INDIA” On 2nd January 2016 HACC organized a one day national conference on “The Status of Commerce Education in India”. As part of its 60th year anniversary celebrations the college initiated a review and discussion of the condition of commerce education. As the first accredited commerce college in Gujarat, HACC decided to organize a conference on this theme. The conference was inaugurated by Shri Bhupendrasinhji Chudasma, Honorable Minister of Education Gujarat State in the presence of Shri Sudhirbhai Nanavati, Executive Vice-President of Gujarat Law Society and Dr. Parimal Vyas, Vice-Chancellor, M.S University. As chief guest of the inaugural function, the Honorable Minister expressed his pleasure with GLS and HACC for taking innovative and firm steps towards education in Gujarat. In his presidential address Shri Sudhirbhai nanavati made a very pertinent point when he said that commerce education, more than anything, needs to include one important aspect: Morality. The keynote address delivered by Dr. Parimal Vyas, highlighted the various areas that commerce education need to focus on. The conference had 300 participants, including students and faculty members. Over thirty papers were presented in the two technical sessions held during the day. The conference proceedings were released in the form of a CD. The valedictory session included feedback from the participants, and was presided over by leading advocate and alumnus of HACC, Shri Saurabh Soparkar. 02 January 2016 8 January 2016

AN ICT WORKSHOP FOR FACULTY The College invited Shri Harish Chhipakla, a computer expert, to conduct a workshop on ICT for the staff members. They learnt how to create different types of documents and presentations on the computer for use in the classrooms. 11 January 2016

HACC CULFEST: SIGNATURE DAY AND JUST-A-MINUTE GAMES DAY The students celebrated Signature and Autograph Day wherein they shared autographs and wrote their names not only on the shirts and books of their friends, but also on the pages of their memories. 12 January 2016

HACC CULFEST: RALLY & GROUP DAY Students dressed in similar clothes in groups to celebrate group day. These groups of students walked together in a rally to spread the message of social reform and environment protection. Students prepared posters and placards to spread awareness of environment protection and love for nature. 12 January 2016

HACC CULFEST: REFRESHMENT DAY The college students made and sold refreshment snacks to collect money for social service programmes. These self made food items were assembled and sold by groups of students to the staff and students of the college. The fund collected from the profits will be donated to orphanages and old age homes. 23 January 2016

HACC ALUMNI MEET HACC organized an alumni meet on the 23rd of January to celebrate its 60th anniversary year wherein some of the most prominent personalities of the city were present. With the theme “Come Home!”, the college welcomed its past students. Shri Sudhir Nanavati, Executive Vice-president, GLS, and President, GLS University, and more significantly, also an alumnus of the college, presided over the event. He spoke about his fond memories at the college, the excellent principals and faculties who have contributed towards the college, and the times of the 1960’s when he was a student here. He appreciated Prin. Dr. Sanjay Vakil for bringing back the glory of the past to the college. Shri Mukesh Patel, international tax consultant, was also an alumnus, gave his esteemed presence at the event. A feeling of nostalgia and memory pervaded the hall during his speech, together with pride and glory of the days gone by. Shri Saurabh Soparkar, renowned Advocate of the High Court of Gujarat and the Supreme Court of India, also dignified the stage with his presence. He spoke about how even a short while at this college contributed towards his growth. Ms. Panna Momaya, IPS, Women’s Crime Branch, Ahmedabad, was also present as an alumnus of the college. She spoke about how the college was instrumental in building up her character, and how she managed to be the University Athletic Champion for five consecutive years simply by sheer hard work and being a student of this college. The past students who came to the event interacted with the faculty, reliving their college days. NSS CAMP AT BAKROL Students of the NSS unit of the college went to Bakrol village for a week together with professors in charge. They worked on the cleanliness of the village, spread messages of social awareness, conducted rallies, staged street plays, and did a lot of repair work in the village. The village sarpanch appreciated their work and the villagers felt obliged to them. 26 January 2016

CYCLOTHON : A DRIVE FOR CLEANLINESS Under the My Own Street initiative of the college, the principal, staff and students participated in a cycle rally organized by Sambhav Group, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Rotary Club. This event was conducted in order to create an awareness of the importance of pollution control in society, and thus contribute towards the Swachhta Campaign of the country. 4 February 2016

CANCER AWARENESS PROGRAMME On the occasion of World Cancer Day, the college invited Dr. Bhavesh Parekh, renowned oncologist and surgeon from HCG Hospital, to speak about ways in which to avoid cancer. He told the students about the dangers of tobacco addiction in any form and advised them to keep away from cigarettes, paan masala and other such vices. . 4 February 2016

A WORKSHOP ON LEADERSHIP The College organized a workshop on Leadership for students by Shri Abhishek Thakore, founder of the Blue Ribbon Movement and gold medalist from IIM Bangalore. In this workshop, students self -explored four of the most important questions of life to can make their life more focused: What I am good at? What I am passionate about? What will run my economical engine? What can I contribute to the world? They were made to do practical sessions to answer these questions. Thus, this workshop helped them to create stronger connection with their own self, help them to clarify their life’s goal and head forward in the right direction. 10 February 2016

A LECTURE FOR GIRLS ON GYNAECOLOGY BY CWDC The Collegiate Women’s Development Cell organized a lecture for the girl students of the college to inform them about the dangers of Polycistic Ovaries Syndrome and the problems in child-bearing caused by this condition. Dr. Raman Patel and Dr. Reitu Patel, leading IVF specialists of the city, associated with Sunflower Hospital, came to the college to deliver this guest lecture. 12 February 2016

PLACEMENT CAMP BY TCS Tata Consultancy Services made a presentation to Sem 6 students to explain what it means to work in a multi-national company like Tata. They also took tests for placements, wherein 112 students took part in the written exam. From these, 52 students cleared the test and were chosen for the interview. And finally, 14 students were given offer letters for training and subsequent placement. They will be given a stipend of Rs. 10,000 per month during the training period. 15 February 2016

“NO VEHICLE DAY” – PRINCIPAL FELICITATED BY MAYOR GAUTAM SHAH The College celebrated a No-Vehicle day in accordance with the directive from Gujarat University to encourage students to solve the problem of traffic congestion and save natural resources. On this day, the staff members and the students came to college by public transport and/or bicycles. The principal himself rode a bicycle to college. The Mayor of Ahmedabad City, Shri Gautam Shah, came to the college to encourage the students and to felicitate the principal for this initiative. 15 February 2016

WORKSHOP ON “HOW TO PREPARE A CV/RESUMÉ Dr. Chetan Mewada of HACC conducted a CV/Resume building workshop for the final year students so as to enable them to have ready data when they pass out of the college and prepare themselves for jobs and careers. The Job Placement Cell of the college conducted this activity so as to train the students on how to be ready for the professional world. 16 February 2016

PLACEMENT CAMP BY ICICI A campus recruitment drive was conducted at the college by ICICI Prudential Life Insurance. They made a presentation to the students regarding the kind of job the students would be required to do, how to best function in Multi-national companies. CELEBRATION OF “MATRUBHASHA DIVAS” HACC celebrated World Mother-tongue Day on 21 Feb 2016 to rekindle the significance and glory of the mother-tongue in the minds of the students. Prof. Yashwant Waghela, a renowned academician and litterateur of Gujarati, addressed the students and showed them the relevance of multi-cultural and multi-lingual plurality in a global world. In his talk, he revived the fervor of the students for their own mother-tongue and brought about a new perspective in them in the context of the craze for English language. 25 February 2016

GRAND CELEBRATION OF THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE COLLEGE 60th Anniversary Celebration of H.A College of Commerce took place during its annual function on 25th February at Thakorebhai Desai Hall. The Honourable Governorshri of Gujarat Shri O.P Kohli was the Chief Guest at this event, with Dr. M.N Patel, Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat University, as the Guest of Honour. Shri Devang Nanavati, Hon. Secretary, Gujarat Law Society, presided over the event, which was also attended by Dr. BH Joshi, Registrar, GLS. The Hon. Governorshri also released the college anniversary issue of the magazine, titled Viraasat: A Legacy of 60 years. Together with this, the achievers of the college were given awards and prizes by the Governor. The governorshri, who is also the official Chancellor of Gujarat University, felicitated the principals and faculty who have been newly elected members of the Gujarat University senate. The function was attended by over 1000 students of the college, the principals and directors of different academic institutions, past principals and faculty of the college, and the parents of the some of the students. DR. LEE LU FROM NJCU VISITS HACC Dr. Lee Lu, Co-ordinator, International Affairs, NJCU, had visited the college to interview the students on 1st of March 2016. He interviewed ten students who were selected by the college for the scholarship. On the basis of their social activities, extra and co-curricular activities and academics, he listed five of the ten as the most eligible for the Patel Scholars Program. 18 March 2016

SPORTS DAY The college organized a Sports Day at the grounds on 18th March at 7:30 a.m. to encourage students towards physical fitness and exercise. More than 200 students and the entire teaching and non teaching staff participated in this event. At a small formal function before the competitions, the chief guest, Dr. L.S. Pathak, Principal, IM Nanavati Law College, and Dr. Sanjay Vakil, Principal, HACC, talked to the students about the necessity of health and fitness. Students and faculty took part in different competitions like shot put, discuss throw, 200m sprint, 100m sprint and long jump. The event was followed by lunch for all present. 19 March 2016

STUDENTS TAKEN ON A VISIT TO AN EXHIBITION ON AHMEDABAD HERITAGE The students of the NSS unit of the college went to the for an exhibition on the history and culture of Ahmedabad city. PRIZE DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION & FAREWELL TO THE FINAL SEMESTER STUDENTS The college organized a grand function to felicitate its achievers of the year and to bid farewell to the students of the final year of B.Com. and M.Com. The event was held in the GLS Lawns and held an ambience of youthfulness and energy. Dr. A.U. Patel, Advisor, Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat (KCG) and former Vice-chancellor, Gujarat University, was the Chief Guest, Shri Gautambhai Shah, Mayor of Ahmedabad was the Guest of honour and Shri Sanjeev Tripathi, Professor, IIM, Ahmedabad, was the guest of honour. Dr. Bhalchandra Joshi, Regjstrar, GLS, graced the occasion as representative of the management. The event comprised of presentation of the college annual report, prize distribution of the international and national level achievers of the college, a dance and musical programme with a DJ, and dinner for the students. The passing out students were also given a gift wishing them a bright future. There were about 600 students together with staff members and principals and directors of other GLS institutions. A significant event at this function was the distribution of 60gm silver coins to each staff member and all the principals who have worked in the college till date on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the college. This is a very touching gesture by Gujarat Law Society, initiated by Shri Sudhir Nanavati, Executive Vice-president, GLS. COURSE ON ACCOUNTANCY, TAXATION & FINANCE The college started a self-financed course to supplement the B.Com degree. This course is based on additional knowledge that the students require in the professional world. The course was conducted by Prof. Pankaj Raval wherein Chartered Accountants, Company Secretaries and Entrepreneurs from the industry came to inform the students about the requirements of the industry. This course intended to fill in the lacunae between academics and commerce professions. 23 April 2016

CELEBRATION OF WORLD BOOK DAY The college celebrated world book day on 23 April 2016 with an exhibition of rare books in the college library. The principal, staff and students took some time off to browse through the books and become familiar with great writers. The books were displayed for students and staff from different colleges too. The visitors to the exhibition were also encouraged to browse through the books, thus creating a spirit of bonding between the youth and books. 23 April 2016
