Since I935 THE AHMEDABAD EDUCATION SOCIETY AID COLLEGES March 2017 . Volume 1, lssue 1 # {- A MESSAGE FROM ACADEMIC ADVISOR - industrial magnate and philanthropist), Shri G. V. Mavlankar (who became the first speaker of the Lok Sabha) and Shri Amrutlal Hargovandas (a leading industrialist) established AES to provide access to quality education to the youth of the region. Since its inception, it has established a number of colleges in varied disciplines, several schools, and also promoted two leading private universities. lts colleges became symbols of the best rnstitutions in higher education in the region, and were most sought after by students and teachers alike. This Newsletter seeks to share with stakeholders' information about five of the colleges of AES, all of which are grantable colleges, more than 60 years old, affiliated to Gujarat University and Gujarat Technological University, and accredited by NAAC with the highest grade "A". These colleges are H L College of Commerce, L. D. Arts College, L M College of Pharmacy, M G Science lnstitute and A G Teachers College. All stand out as symbols of excellence in the educational landscape of Gujarat, and offer a wide array of programmes in Commerce, Arts, Pharmacy, Science and Teacher Education. The past year has been momentous in terms of various initiatives which have been launched by the management in the governance of the colleges as well as in quality assurance and quality improvement of the education imparted. They include setting up Advisory Committees, Academic Audit, Acadernic PIanning, Activity Based Budgets, Performance Appraisal, as well as introducing new self-financed programmes. Extensive renovation of the infrastructure is also in progress. At the same time the focus on a student centric, holistic education is being pursued. Capacity building of faculty is being addressed, so as to enhance the research output and provide a contemporary and relevant education. We are happy to share with you the contents of the first issue of this Newsletter for the first semester of Academic Year 2016-17 and look forward to receive your suggestions to make it better.
