Volume CLIV Issue IX Student-run newspaper since 1933 keystoneonline.com University alters Financial Aid policy

by Allison Blisard Contributing Writer

The KU Financial Aid office has recently made changes to the aca demic progress requirements in order to receive financial aid. The details of these changes were announced dur ing several informational meetings held between Oct. 24 and Oct. 27. Because the Financial Aid office works in conjunction with the federal government, there must be academic progress requirements in place which may mirror the academic progress policy of the university, or it can be less stringent. While the newly introduced policy parallels KU's grade point average re quirement of 2.0, the total cumulative credit requirement differs. Now, in order to be eligible for financial aid, students must complete two thirds of the credits they attempt to earn (to taled after the drop-add period). While the university is only re quired to assess student's eligibility at the end of the spring term, the office has elected to check student's stand A bomb scare that proved false left the McFarland Student Union Building evacuated for more than 90 minutes, (see page 2 for more) Ray Tenney, The Keystone ing at the end of every semester. When the building tions. was finally opened at 5:29 p.m., a Keystone reporter was told to leave the bathroom as he tried to see what the note said. Custodial staff at the SUB were in the bathroom immediately after the building reopened to remove the bomb threat that was written on a bathroom stall. The Kutztown Fire Department (shown above) was also on scene in the event that the threat was real. They sat in the SUB parking lot blocking any cars from entering the lot. The group of fourty students WEST CHESTER and employees were let back into the building when a police officer said, "The building is safe, there is no threat."
