The Performance-Based Pay program is a collectively- bargained benefit that compensates players based upon their playing time and salary levels. In addition to the Performance-Based Pay pool, the NFL Players Association has elected to dedicate $32 million in benefits (i.e., $1 million per club) to fund a Veteran Performance-Based Compensation Pool (the “Veteran Pool”) for players with more than one Accrued Season. In total, $159.84 million will be disbursed to players under the combined pools. Atlanta Falcons cornerback BRIAN POOLE earned the highest amount in the Performance-Based Pay program. Oakland Raiders guard GABE JACKSON earned the most in the Veteran Pool. Under the combined pools, Atlanta safety RICARDO ALLEN earned the highest amount of all NFL players. See the tables below for the top 25 bonuses in each category. Players have been paid over $1.2 billion cumulatively since the inception of the Performance-Based Pay program, which was implemented as part of the NFL’s 2002 Collective Bargaining Agreement with the NFL Players Association, and continues as part of the parties’ current agreement. The Veteran Pool is a component of the Rookie Redistribution Fund, which is a player benefit that was created under the 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement. • Article Extravagant Passion
Extravagant Passion The lack of focus that stems from not believing you can achieve great things is a pitfall that stands squarely in the path of even the most talented people in the pursuit of remarkable performance. An individual’s passion must be extravagant in order to dedicate themself to the preparation, self examination, and sacrifice that remarkable performance is born of. I spent over a year of my life at Bronco training camp in a twelve year NFL career. Those were the most physically, emotionally, and mentally challenging days of my life. Dan Reeves would bring one hundred and ten NFL hopefuls to camp each year and every one of them had the physical tools, the raw talent to make the team. At the end of camp the forty nine man roster would be set, and sixty one physically capable players had been sent home. NFL clubs have scouting staffs that scour college and pro rosters across the country in search of athletes that have the physical tools to make their teams better. They run exhaustive tests and interviews on prospective draft choices and free agents. I was a twelfth round draft pick, the three hundred and tenth player drafted out of college in 1983. The Broncos sent two different scouts to test me and interview me at the University of Minnesota before the draft. One of the scouts even interviewed my girl friend. Imagine the scrutiny first and second round picks go through. The scouts make sure that each of the players they bring to camp can help the team, but the majority of the players don’t play a regular season down before they’re fired.

  • "The Olympics Don't Take American Express"
“…..and the Olympics didn’t take American Express” Chapter One: How ‘Bout Those Cowboys I inherited a predisposition for pain from my father, Ron, a born and raised Buffalonian with a self- mutilating love for the Buffalo Bills. As a young boy, he kept scrap books of the All American Football Conference’s original Bills franchise. In the 1950s, when the AAFC became the National Football League and took only the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, and Baltimore Colts with it, my father held out for his team. In 1959, when my father moved the family across the country to San Jose, California, Ralph Wilson restarted the franchise and brought Bills’ fans dreams to life. In 1960, during the Bills’ inaugural season, my father resumed his role as diehard fan, and I joined the ranks. It’s all my father’s fault. My father was the one who tapped his childhood buddy Larry Felser, a writer for the Buffalo Evening News, for tickets. My father was the one who took me to Frank Youell Field every year to watch the Bills play the Oakland Raiders, compliments of Larry. By the time I had celebrated Cookie Gilcrest’s yardage gains, cheered Joe Ferguson’s arm, marveled over a kid called Juice, adapted to Jim Kelly’s K-Gun offense, got shocked by Thurman Thomas’ receptions, felt the thrill of victory with Kemp and Golden Wheels Dubenion, and suffered the agony of defeat through four straight Super Bowls, I was a diehard Bills fan. Along with an entourage of up to 30 family and friends, I witnessed every Super Bowl loss.

How Andre Gurode became Cowboys' most tenured veteran | Todd Archer Columns | Spo... Page 1 of 2 How Andre Gurode became Cowboys' most tenured veteran 10:49 AM CDT on Friday, May 21, 2010 IRVING – At times, Andre Gurode admits he will look around the Valley Ranch locker room and wonder where the time has gone. He can point across the room to where Emmitt Smith held court. He can look to his right and know that Terence Newman now occupies Darren Woodson’s old locker with a message about the Super Bowl tradition on its back wall. He can look straight ahead and see where Flozell Adams sat for years. Now Gurode is the old man in the room. Not in terms of age or years of NFL service – those go to backup quarterback Jon Kitna (37 and 14 respectively) – but in tenure with the Cowboys. Gurode is entering his eighth season with the Cowboys. “I wouldn’t say it felt like yesterday,” said Gurode, a second round pick in 2002 after Roy Williams and before Antonio Bryant, “but it felt like I just came here a few years ago. I couldn’t imagine going through the stuff I’ve been through and the years and just all of the things it took to get to this point. It’s like, ‘Wow, it’s really been a journey.’” Gurode was Adams’ teammate for eight years, who was once Michael Irvin’s teammate, who played with Everson Walls, who was a Cowboy with Harvey Martin, who played defensive line with Bob Lilly, the Cowboys’ first draft pick in 1961, who came a year after Eddie LeBaron was the quarterback for an 0-11-1 team in the franchise’s first year.
