A-Z Some Historical Information A Aeolia: (6 Aeolia Street, Randwick) built by Edwin Daintrey (1814-1887), solicitor and botanist, as his home in 1859. It is now part of the Brigidine College, which moved there in December 1902 from its temporary base in Silver Street. Daintrey was a founder member of the NSW Linnean Society (Natural History) in 1874. Amphion: (128 Alison Road, Randwick) see ‘Verona’. Amusu Theatre, Maroubra: (791- 801 Anzac Parade Maroubra Junction). A ‘motion-picture house’ (cinema) which opened in December 1921 and closed on 13th June 1958. The final night was a ‘double feature’ show with “Davy”, starring Harry Secombe in a debut singing role and an American racing car drama “The Devil’s Hairpin” starring Cornel Wilde. The cinema was built and operated by two Americans, Amos Hinton and Arthur Hennessy. As well as showing films, it was also the venue for political rallies, dances and fund raising events for local clubs. The building was demolished and a petrol station was built on the site, which in its turn was demolished in 1979 to make way for apartment buildings. Avonmore Terrace: (26-42 The Avenue, Randwick) was completed in 1889-90 on land purchased in May 1888 from the trustees of St. Judes C/E. Built in the Italianate style, it comprises nine large three-storey terrace houses. The original address was Walsh’s Terrace, John’s Avenue, renamed The Avenue in 1895. The builder and owner, John Walsh (1843-1893) and his family occupied No,5, called ‘Avonmore’, the central and largest residence, the first to be built and which is the focal point of the terrace, having a projecting entrance porch the full height of the building topped with a pediment embellished with the name ‘Avonmore’. -

MID-WESTERN REGIONAL COUNCIL ORDINARY MEETING - 1 OCTOBER 2014 73 6.2.7 Naming of unnamed Lane off Dabee Road REPORT BY THE REVENUE & PROPERTY MANAGER TO 1 OCTOBER 2014 COUNCIL MEETING Naming of unnamed Lane Off Dabee Road GOV400038, R0790141 RECOMMENDATION That: 1. the report by the Revenue & Property Manager on the Naming of unnamed Lane off Dabee Road be received; 2. Council name the lane Bloodsworth Lane. Executive summary Following advice from Council staff the need has arisen to name an unnamed lane in Kandos. Detailed report Council, being the Roads Authority, is required to name new or unnamed streets and roads. The purpose of this report is to provide a list of names from which Council can choose a name for this unnamed lane. Council wrote to neighbours of the unnamed lanes on 12/8/14 requesting their naming suggestions. Public consultation was also invited in an advertisement placed in the 15/8/14 issue of the Mudgee Guardian. Submissions closed on 5/9/14 and during this period no submissions were received. The following are names from the List of Approved Street/Road names related to the Kandos area. Lambert Bloodsworth Oakborough Riversdale Minorca James Vincent Street naming is legislated under the Roads Act 1993. This Act empowers the authority in charge of the road with the rights to name it. The naming of the unnamed lane will allow the completion of street addressing along it. Section 162 of the Roads Act (1993) states that “a road authority may name and number all public roads for which it is the authority. -

Woodlines – Design: Naja Utzon Popov DESCRIPTION The Woodlines Rug Collection draws inspiration from nature and a study of wood and its attributes. Naja Utzon Popov has zoomed in on countless lengths of wood, magnifying the unique characteristics that contain a wealth of details and express the wood's character. The outcome - a familiar wood pattern presented on another material - creates a new expression with clear links to the source. The rugs stand out as elegant, fine-crafted works that add to a room's personality. Hand-knotted from wool, they feature long pile with a soft and luxurious feel. The rugs' tight weave makes them easy to clean and ensures that the pile remains straight and the pattern intact, even with heavy use. The collection consists of five unique designs in black, white and charcoal, and is available in three different sizes: 80x220 cm, 170x240 cm & 200x300 cm. THE DESIGNER Naja Utzon Popov inherited her creative genes from her grandfather, Jørn Utzon, a Danish architect known for designing the iconic Sydney Opera House in Australia; her mother, prominent Danish artist Lin Utzon; and her father, acclaimed Australian architect Alex Popov. Naja's childhood years in Denmark have always been an important source of inspiration for her work, as were the years she spent in Australia studying drawing, painting and etching at the Julian Ashton Art School. After moving to England, Naja continued her formal artistic training at the University of Westminster School of Media Arts and Design. Today, she lives in her native Denmark and works out of her studio in Copenhagen. -
