Director’s Message

Hello Mequon-Thiensville Community Members:

Thank you for taking time to read this message and for looking through this amazing selection of Fall opportunities. We have a vast selection of offerings this Fall for all ages, I hope you can find something to your liking. Some of our new exciting programs include Outdoor Skills, Virtual Adult Conversational Spanish, Bringing Home Baby and Caring as New Parents, Cartonnage, and Wreath Making. Our third school year of the Kids’ Campus program has finished up and although we had an tough year with COVID-19, it was still very successful. We had 200 total kids in our program with over 11,000 registrations. Certainly would have seen more without COVID-19 present, but we are hoping next school year will be much higher. Plans are underway and looking to see how we can better the program. REGISTER NOW for ’21-’22 school year!! If you have any questions or comments on the program, please contact Elisa Salvo, our new Kids’ Campus Director at 262-238-7548 or [email protected]. Elisa worked for the Kids’ Campus program in ’18-’19 and ’19-’20 as site supervisor at Donges Bay. She did an exceptional job while there and the kids and parents raved about her. We are extremely excited to welcome Elisa back and we look forward to bigger and better things with her in charge. Please join us in welcoming Elisa to the team once again! Our Summer 2021 is packed full of amazing classes and our enrollment is one of the highest in 15 years. We were excited to offer many more programs than we did last Summer. Programs that have high enrollment include Summer Academy, Swim, Pickleball, Soccer League, Soccer Camp, Track and Field League, TBall, Computer Explorer Classes, Babysitting, and Mad Science Classes to name a few. We hope that you and your children enjoy their Summer filled with Rec Dept offerings.

Planning for the Winter/Spring 2021-22 brochure is underway. If you have any ideas, suggestions, or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me via email at mschoemer@mtsd. k12.wi.us

The Range Line School building is now going to be called “Range Line Community Center” and there will be a new electronic sign in front. This sign will have upcoming events scrolling on there as well as any other exciting news relating to the Rec Dept. The name change is exciting because it is truly a community center for people of all ages to come and enjoy classes and space at the facility.

Thank you and I look forward to an amazing Fall with all of you and your families!!

Created in the backyard of Washington Congressman Joel Pritchard in 1965, it is a combination of badminton, tennis and table tennis, and is enjoyed by all age groups. MT Rec Drama Dept and Gathering On the Green presents…

By Stacy Lane

A magical, wintry wonderland awaits in this charming children’s show, closely adapted from the same Hans Christian Andersen tale as Disney’s Frozen. The Flurries, the icy imps of the Snow , conjure up a cruel spell to make a magical mirror that reflects the ugly side of humanity. Hardly impressed, the Snow Queen smashes the mirror to set her more dastardly plan into motion. While cousins Gerda and Kay play tag, Kay gets a shard of the shattered mirror stuck in his eye, and it turns him into a rotten brat. The Snow Queen kidnaps the boy and takes him to her Ice Castle. Timid Gerda is determined to rescue her best friend, armed only with a Gypsy’s jar of warm wishes and giggle-inducing snickerdoodles. On her journey, she encounters a cursed gardener, talking flowers, a mischievous fox, a know-it-all crow, a generous princess and rowdy robbers. Once at the castle, Gerda uses the jar of warm wishes to melt the Flurries and the magical cookies to warm Kay’s heart again. Thanks to Gerda’s own warm heart and her loving, forgiving nature, the Snow Queen transforms into the Sun Queen and the Flurries return as Sunbeams. This experience will include theater games, improvisation, vocal work and other acting tips, and of course a chance to be on stage for the final production. You will make lots of new drama buddies and have fun working together as a team. There are so many wonderful parts for young actors to play. MT Rec Drama Dept and Gathering On the Green presents…

Script by Tim Kelly Score by Bill Francoeur Gracie Stanley has gotten herself in hot water by promising to deliver her distant cousin, rock star Ziggy Springer, for the high school Hippity Hop at Louise’s Luncheonette. Ziggy’s manager doesn’t want his client performing anywhere without pay, so Gracie and her friends have to produce a double – and fast! They use a singing soda jerk and plan to have him perform in the dark! It won’t be easy for Gracie to get away with this one with her rival, snooty Muffin Mansfield, waiting for her to flop. Meanwhile, Louise has her own problems. The building’s owner forbids the dance and plans to turn the eatery into a dry cleaner. With all of this happening, Gracie’s brother is living in terror because he’s smashed up a Harley belonging to Sinbad Gallucci, a bad dude. There are fun roles to play, with everything from students to beatniks. Included in the sensational Francoeur fifties score: ‘Bop-A-Lu-Bop Dance Party,’ ‘Teen Queen,’ ‘It’s Tough To Be a Teenager In Love,’ the hilarious ‘It Was The Blob,’ and, of course, the toe-tapping title tune. This experience will include theater games, improvisation, vocal work and other acting tips, lots of singing, and of course a chance to be on stage for the final production! You will make lots of new drama buddies and have fun working together as a team. There are so many wonderful parts for young actors to play. AMAZING ATHLETES

Amazing Athletes is an educational sports and fitness program teaching children the basic fundamentals and mechanics of the following 10 sports: Baseball, Basketball, Football, Golf, Hockey, Lacrosse, Soccer, Tennis, Track & Field and Volleyball. We will also focus on the 7 key areas of motor-development through games, obstacle courses and other fun fitness activities. Our program incorporates exercises for gross motor development, hand-eye coordination, cardio-vascular fitness, speed and agility and stretching and muscle tone.

By introducing kids to a variety of sports and physical activities at a young age, they have a greater chance of finding a few things they like. Children participating in sports and fitness at an early age will expose to them an active and healthy lifestyle, which is our main goal!
