Gord Anderson and I were on the way to High Plains Raceway near Denver for three days of HPDE track time. There is a blizzard blowing outside – IN MAY! We return now to Calgary, trackless. “Into every life a little rain must fall”. But snow in May? One foot of traffic-packed-snow on the road to the track! Last year my Pumpkin* overheated at this event. AHHHHHHH …. A small contingent of Club members experienced a new driving venture on May 13th. The Southern Alberta Solo Sport Club (organizer of the last 2 years Winter Driving Schools) hosted BMWCSA for a Car Control Clinic/ Autocross Introduction. I thank Reijo Silvennoinen and the SOLO Club for CC&C at The Block this chance to shake off the winter rust and learn a new way to drive. I am an admitted Track Rat, enjoying High Performance Driving at road tracks and I might even say I am getting the hang of pushing myself and maybe even the Pumpkin to the limits at speed. Autocross racing is a different animal com- pletely. No long sweeping 200+Km/Hr curves tuned to the perfect exit line. Autocross is instantaneous and in-your-face car handling. The speeds are much lower but the concentration is immense. A superb sport to truly learn the feel of handling your car and the absolute need to keep your eyes forward. And to boot this is a sport where every day Bimmers have the advantage over highly tuned track cars. I am looking forward to other opportunities that are in the works in cooperation with the SOLO Club. Stay tuned. Cars, Coffee & Chat now officially has a new location. We will be meet- Waiting for my turn at Car Control! ing at 10:00AM the first Saturday of each month at The Block Kitchen & Lounge, 2411, 4th Street NW Calgary, (the corner of 4th Street and 23rd Avenue NW). We experimented with this facility for the May CC&C with great success. The parking lot was wide open for a safe Show & Shine and the proprietor of the Block laid-out a special Breakfast/Brunch/Lunch menu at very reasonable prices. The interior space easily accommodated the 30+ attendees in a friendly, convenient room. There has been some thought of holding twice monthly CC&C’s during the summer. On reflection a better use of our additional weekend time is to do what we all bought Bimmers for – Drive ‘em! Last year Victor Yuen started a tradition of informal/spontaneous drives. He intends to continue with these drives on nice weekends this summer. I encourage you to keep Greg Walsh and two BMW enthusiasts. in touch with Victor via FaceBook and enjoy the fun and comradery of an impromptu sojourn to who knows where. Carrying on the theme of driving, I encourage you to read the article Wallace Chow presents this month on the Swiss Driving Tour proposed for September 2018. Wallace and his team have done all the hard leg work of laying out a driving experience in the Swiss Alps in the tradition of the 2014 Dolomites Tour. I anticipate this tour will sell out fast. The Club’s Grand Tours are catching a lot of attention and enthusiasm among our travelers. It is being suggested that we carry on with a format that is emerging, that is to say tour one year in North America (Appalachians 2017) the next year in Europe (Swiss 2 018) and rotate continents going forward.

  • 24H Presseinfo Vorlage D
Deutsche Version 42. ADAC Zurich 24h-Rennen vom 19. bis 22. Juni 2014: 24h in Zahlen 14 .

Press Release April 21, 2017 Nürburgring 24 Hours Nine works drivers and two Young Professionals take on the “Green Hell” Stuttgart. Nine Porsche works drivers and two Porsche Young Professionals will contest the Nürburgring 24-hour race with the Porsche 911 GT3 R. With the deploy- ment of these drivers, Porsche Motorsport supports customer teams at Germany’s greatest motorsport event on the legendary Nürburgring-Nordschleife, where more than 200,000 fans are expected on 27/28 May. The following works pilots will share driving duties in four of the 500 hp customer sport racers from Weissach: Jörg Berg- meister (Germany), Michael Christensen (Denmark), Romain Dumas (France), Rich- ard Lietz (Austria), Frédéric Makowiecki (France), Sven Müller (Germany), Patrick Pilet (France), Laurens Vanthoor (Belgium), Dirk Werner (Germany). The Young Pro- fessionals Matteo Cairoli (Italy) and Matthieu Jaminet (France) join forces to tackle the long-distance classic in another 911 GT3 R. “We’ve made the conscious decision to back our customer teams rather than com- pete against them in the VLN races and at the Nürburgring 24-hour race. We’re sup- porting them by supplying works drivers as well as technical assistance,” says Se- bastian Golz, Project Manager GT Customer Motorsport. “The expertise of our teams Falken Motorsports, Frikadelli Racing and Manthey Racing combined with our sup- port and the concept of the 911 GT3 R have underlined in the VLN1 and VLN2 prep- aration races that we’re currently on the right path. We claimed pole position and overall victory at both of these events and also won the amateur classification.

Press Release 4 June 2021 25 Years of Manthey-Racing Spectacular, thrilling, surprising – 25 facts about Manthey-Racing Stuttgart. Record winner at the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, suc- cessful operations team for Porsche Motorsport in the FIA World Endurance Champi- onship (WEC), reputable supplier of performance kits for road cars: The name Manthey stands for top performance on the racetrack and the road. In 2021, the company based in Meuspath in the Eifel celebrates its 25th anniversary. Here are 25 interesting, spec- tacular and at times unexpected facts about Manthey-Racing: 3,000 metres between home and hell Aside from the close sporting and emotional ties between the successful Manthey- Racing squad and the Nürburgring, the team headQuarters in the Meuspath industrial estate lies just 3,000 metres as the crow flies from the start-finish line of the legendary racetrack in Germany’s hilly Eifel region. An idea for the motorsport world Over the course of his long and illustrious career, Olaf Manthey becomes known around the world – not only for his successes and his distinctive handlebar moustache but also for his innovative ideas. In 1978, at just his third outing as a rookie driver, he surprises his rivals with tyres warmers at the Trier hillclimb event and, much to their astonishment, promptly leaves them in his dust.
