#11 ALLAN DE SAN MIGUEL | MANAGER • Allan de San Miguel was named the fifth manager in Melbourne Aces history on 18 July 2020. • A native of Perth, De San Miguel takes over the managerial role as one of the most accomplished players in Australian Baseball League history, with more games played (386) and at-bats (1300) than any other player in the ABL while hitting a lifetime .262 with 50 home runs and 214 runs batted in. • He joined the Aces ahead of the 2016/17 season and spent the final four years of his 10-year ABL career in an Aces uniform after spending the first six with the . • De San Miguel won four Gold Glove Awards and seven Claxton Shield titles – six with Perth and one with Melbourne. He appeared in the ABL Championship Series seven times in the league’s first 10 seasons, including each of the first five seasons with Perth and two of the last four seasons with Melbourne, including being named MVP of the 2014-15 Championship Series. • In international play, de San Miguel has long been a member of the Australian National Team, including on the 2009, 2013 and 2017 World Baseball Classic rosters, as well as at the 2019 WBSC Premier12. • De San Miguel played 12 seasons in in the United States between the Minnesota Twins (2005 – 2011, 2015), Baltimore Orioles (2012 –2013) and Kansas City Royals (2016 – 2017) organizations. Most recently, the veteran catcher was named to Kansas City’s 60-man player pool as a #24 JON DEEBLE | DIRECTOR OF BASEBALL OPS • After retiring as manager following the Aces’ 2020 Claxton Shield championship, Hall of Famer Jon Deeble returns to the team’s coaching staff to work as the Director of Baseball Operations with first-year manager Allan de San Miguel. • Named the fourth manager in franchise history on 23 August 2016, Deeble piloted the Aces to and 89-71(.556) record in his four years at the helm of the club, making the postseason every year and leading the Aces to the team’s first ABL Championship in the modern ABL last season. • Deeble played on several Australian national teams and managed the Australian team between 2000 and 2017, including at the 2000 and 2004 Olympics, earning a silver medal finish in at the 2004 games in Athens. • Since October 2016, Deeble has worked as the Director of Asian Pacific Scouting for the , Previously, he was the coordinator of scouting for the Pacific Rim region for the Red Sox from 2001 to 2016 and worked in the Florida Marlins organization from 1992 to 2001. With the Red Sox, he was responsible for not only signing many Australian baseball players, but players like as Daisuke Matsuzaka and Hideki Okajima as well. In 2005, he became the first Australian native to coach in , when he served as Boston’s first-base coach. #47 PETER MOYLAN | PITCHING COACH • Former MLB, Team Australia and Aces pitcher Peter Moylan joins the Aces for his first season as a full-time coach and fourth in Melbourne overall. • Moylan returns to the Aces as a full-time coach after three seasons as a player-coach including last season’s Claxton Shield Championship team. The 41-year-old also brings 12 years and 500 games of MLB experience to Melbourne, in addition to several tournaments with Team Australia and his most recent role as an analyst and broadcaster for Fox Sports South. • Between 2006 and 2018 for the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers and Kansas City Royals, he recorded 24 wins and a 3.10 earned run average in 418.2 innings. On three occasions, he pitched in 80 or more games out of the bullpen in a single season and led all of Major League Baseball with 79 appearances on the mound in 2017. • Across three ABL seasons, Moylan pitched in 16 games for the Aces, while serving as a player-coach in his last two seasons. Outside of the Aces and MLB, he has represented Australia at the 2006 World Baseball Classic, 2017 World Baseball Classic and 2019 WBSC Premier12. • The Western Australia native pitched in the original Claxton Shield, including a strong showing for Victoria in 2006 that led to his success in the 2006 WBC and soon thereafter, the Major Leagues. He has also pitched professionally in China and the Czech Republic. #8 DAMIAN SHANAHAN | COACH • A longtime baseball figure in Victorian baseball, Shanahan returns to the Aces coaching staff for his 10th season, having joined the team in the second season of the modern ABL, the 2011/12 competition. • Shanahan has served as a scout for the San Diego Padres since 2008, while also working for as the High Performance Manager. • He’s previously worked at the Victoria Institute of Sport and Australian Institute of Sport as the head baseball coach. #50 KELI’I ZABLAN| COACH • A minor league pitcher-turned Aces utility player, Zablan returns to Melbourne for his first season on the coaching staff and fourth year with the team. • After growing up in Hawaii and attending Southern Utah University to continue his baseball career, Zablan played professionally in the U.S. from 2010 to 2013 between the independent Seattle Mariners organization. • In 2015, Zablan joined the Aces roster and played 31 games over the next three seasons, seeing most of his time in the infield, as well as one appearance on the mound and two in the outfield. In 17 regular season innings, he struck out 20 opposing hitters with a 1.59 earned run average • Originally a 16th-round pick by Minnesota in the 2016 Draft out of Sacramento State University, Beardsley spent two seasons in the Twins system, pitching in 30 games (27 starts) with seven wins and 94 strikeouts and a 4.32 ERA. • After reaching Class-A Cedar Rapids in Minnesota’s minor league system, the Tehachapi, California native pitched two seasons in the independent professional Frontier League with the Evansville Otters and in 2019, was awarded the Frontier League’s Fran Riordan Citizenship Award for his involvement with community outreach. • As a Senior at Sacramento State in 2016, Beardsley was one of the best relievers in college baseball, named All-Western Athletic Conference Second Team and left the school fourth in program history in saves with 12.

#3 ∙ MITCH ELLIS ∙ RHP HEIGHT: 185 cm WEIGHT: 86 kg B/T: S/R AGE: 25 (22 August 1995) HOMETOWN: Melbourne, Victoria • Ellis is entering his second season playing for the Aces and third in the ABL, but his first season as a full-time pitcher after spending last season as a two-way player for the Aces and the season prior as an infielder with the Brisbane Bandits. • In January 2020, the right-hander signed a contract with the Kansas City Royals as a pitcher and was subsequently named as a reserve to Boral Team Australia’s roster for the 2020 KBO Challenge against the Doosan Bears in mid-February. • After only serving as a position player for Melbourne in the first half of the team’s championship season, he made his debut as a pitcher in Round 6 against Brisbane, his former team. In the second half of the regular season, Ellis played as a two-way player, pitching five innings over five games, with four strikeouts to finish with a 1.80 earned run average. • Prior to joining the Aces, Ellis spent the 2018/19 season with the Brisbane Bandits, hitting .289 over 17 games with one pitching appearance. • Before playing professionally in Australia, Ellis played college baseball in the United States, beginning with two years at Heartland Community College in Illinois and finishing his amateur career at Western Illinois University.

#38 ∙ JACK ENCIONDO ∙ RHP HEIGHT: 184 cm WEIGHT: 95 kg B/T: R/R AGE: 23 (26 January 1997) HOMETOWN: Melbourne, Victoria • Enciondo is entering his fourth season playing for the Aces after serving as a member of the Aces pitching staff each of the last three seasons. • His first season in Melbourne was the 2017/18 campaign and over the last three seasons, Enciondo has pitched in 18 games (8 starts) and won two, while striking out 45 batters over 47.1 innings. • Prior to his time with the Aces, the native of Victoria pitched two seasons at Hill College, a Junior College just south of Dallas, Texas in the United States. • He has also represented Australia on two occasions, at the 2015 U-18 Baseball World Cup in Japan and the 2018 U-23 Baseball World Cup in Colombia. In the U-23 World Cup, Enciondo recorded the save behind starting pitcher and Aces teammate Jeremy Young in Australia’s 4-3 win over the Dominican Republic. • Enciondo plays locally for the Cheltenham Rustlers, pitching 67.1 innings in the Victorian Baseball Summer League last season, with a 6-1 record, 1.34 earned run average and 72 strikeouts.

#31 ∙ BRIAN FLYNN ∙ LHP HEIGHT: 203 cm WEIGHT: 111 kg B/T: L/L AGE: 30 (19 April 1990) HOMETOWN: Tulsa, Oklahoma • Flynn is entering his first season playing for the Aces and comes to the ABL with six seasons and over 100 games of MLB experience between the Kansas City Royals and Miami Marlins, including as recently as 2019. • The 30-year-old has 134 career strikeouts over 187.2 MLB innings and notably spent all of 2018 on the Royals’ Major League roster. In 2016, Flynn held hitters to a .198 average with a 2.60 earned run average over 36 appearances. • Flynn signed with the Texas Rangers ahead of the 2020 season and struck out eight batters in six spring training appearances, while recording a win, pitching to a 1.50 ERA and holding opposing hitters to a .100 batting average. • Drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the seventh round of the 2011 MLB Draft out of Wichita State University in Kansas, he was traded to the Marlins in July 2012 and made his MLB debut in 2013, starting four games for Miami. • Prior to the start of spring training in 2017, Flynn suffered a broken rib and three fractured vertebrae after falling through the roof of his barn, making only one appearance in MLB for the Royals that season. • Following the 2019 season with Kansas City, Flynn was selected for the United States national baseball team in the 2019 WBSC Premier 12, appearing in three games and striking out one batter.

#33 ∙ SAM GIBBONS ∙ RHP HEIGHT: 194 cm WEIGHT: 97 kg B/T: L/R AGE: 27 (12 December 1993) HOMETOWN: Melbourne, Victoria • Gibbons returns for his seventh season playing for the Aces and first since the 2016/17 season, with an additional five seasons of experience in the Minnesota Twins minor league system. • His 14 games started are tied with Adam Blackley for seventh-most in Aces history and 90.1 innings rank eighth, while his 27 games pitched sit just outside of the Top-10 all-time. • Gibbons signed with the Minnesota Twins at age 17 on 2nd July 2011 and cross 80 games (56 starts) for the Twins between rookie ball and Class-A, he won 25 games and struck out 252 batters over 340.0 innings. • Twice in a stellar 2015 season with Cedar Rapids, Gibbons was named the Midwest League pitcher of the week in the span of four weeks, for the weeks of 3rd August and 24th August. • A native of Geelong, Gibbons has been pitching for the Aces since the reborn ABL’s second season in 2011/12 as both a starter and reliever, with his most recent appearance coming in a start against the Adelaide Bite 22nd January 2017. • Locally, the right-hander pitches for the Geelong Baycats Baseball Club, pitching to a 1.81 earned run average across 69.2 Victorian Summer Baseball League innings with 65 strikeouts last season.

#40 ∙ JON KENNEDY ∙ LHP HEIGHT: 203 cm WEIGHT: 111 kg B/T: L/L AGE: 26 (20 September 1994) HOMETOWN: Melbourne, Victoria • Kennedy is entering his ninth season playing for the Aces, after beginning with the team in the club’s third season in the ABL and four seasons in the Atlanta Braves organization. • He returns to the Aces as arguably the most experienced pitcher in club history, with the all-time records in games pitched (62), games started (27), holds (8) and innings pitched (161.1). The left-hander has also allowed more hits (159), runs (104) and earned runs (77) than any other pitcher. His 124 strikeouts are third all-time in Aces history behind Mark Hamburger (158) and Josh Tols (124). • Kennedy signed with the Braves in 2014, following his third season with the Aces and began pitching in their farm system in 2016 , sporting a 3.09 lifetime ERA over four seasons and 94 games, with ten wins and seven saves. • After his release from the Braves, Kennedy pitched for the Tochigi Golden Braves in Japan’s Baseball Challenge League, an independent professional league in Japan. • He has pitched for Team Australia at the 2017 World Baseball Classic, 2019 WBSC Premier12 and 2020 KBO Challenge.

He previously pitched two seasons of Minor League Baseball and four in independent baseball. • Kines pitched in the Miami Marlins organization in 2015 and the New York Mets system in 2017, as well as parts of four seasons with the independent Schaumburg Boomers in the Frontier League. • The left-handed pitcher led all ABL pitchers last season, with an earned run average of just 1.50. That mark ranks 9th all-time for single season ERA among qualified pitchers in the ABL’s 10 seasons. His 42 strikeouts last season ranked 10th in the league, with a .217 opponent batting average (4th ranked) and 1.17 WHIP (8th ranked). • Beyond his time in the Minors and ABL, the 27-year-old has established himself as one of the top pitchers in the independent professional Frontier League. If he reaches the majors, Luke would also be just the sixth third generation player ever in MLB. • The 26-year-old right-hander was Philadelphia’s 7th round draft pick in the 2015 MLB Draft and reached Triple-A Lehigh Valley in 2019, where he struck out 32 batters in 25.0 innings. • Across 5 Minor League seasons, Leftwich has pitched in 149 games (35 starts) with 403 strikeouts in 354.2 innings. He also sits in the top-10 ABL lifetime pitching ranks when it comes to wins (T-7th – 22), games finished (T-8th – 44) and holds (6th – 11) while his 210 strikeouts sit just outside the Top-10 at 11th. • The Perth native was signed by the Phillies while pitching in the original Claxton Shield competition and pitched in 79 games (71 starts) over six seasons in the Minors and reached as high as Class-A with Oakland in 2008. • He was named the All-Star starting pitcher for the Gulf Coast League with the GCL Phillies in 2004 and a Midwest League All-Star in 2008, before helping the Stockton Ports win the 2008 California League Championship. • Beyond his time in the Claxton Shield, ABL and Minors, he pitched for Team Australia in the 2007 Baseball World Cup, 2008 Olympic Qualifiers and 2009 World Baseball Classic, as well as at the 2020 KBO Challenge.

#1 ∙ BLAKE GAILEN ∙ OF HEIGHT: 175 cm WEIGHT: 81 kg B/T: L/L AGE: 27 March 1985) HOMETOWN: Woodland Hills, California • Gailen is entering his first season with the Aces, but his fourth season playing Winter League baseball, with 13 years of pro experience, including six seasons in Minor League Baseball across three MLB organizations, eight seasons of independent in the United States, three seasons of Winter League play in Mexico and Venezuela and he has been a member of Israel’s national baseball team since 2016. • After finishing 2011 with the Double-A as the team’s replacement in the outfield to a recently promoted Mike Trout, Gailen spent 2012 in the independent Atlantic League with the , where he was named Most Valuable Player and Baseball America’s Independent League Player of the Year, hitting .338 with 22 home runs and 89 runs batted in. His 99 career home runs are 10th all-time in league history. • Across 589 games with Lancaster, Gailen is a .306 lifetime hitter with 364 runs batted in, 317 walks and 89 stolen bases. In 2011, he led the American Association with a .406 batting average. • The outfielder played for Team Israel in the 2017 WBC and the 2019 European Baseball Championship and most recently, the Africa/Europe 2020 Olympic Qualification tournament which Israel won to qualify for the 2020 Olympics.

Also holds the Aces single-season record for doubles (18) and single-game record for hits (5) and home runs (3). • Among ABL players, he ranks in the Top-10 in career games played (10th – 264), doubles (10th – 50) and stolen bases (T-10th – 28). • Signed by the Tampa Bay Rays at 17 years old in 2010, he reached as high as Class-A in their Minor League system, released in November 2014. #25 ∙ GIFT NGOEPE ∙ INF HEIGHT: 183 cm WEIGHT: 95 kg B/T: R/R AGE: 33 (5 April 1987) HOMETOWN: Randburg, South Africa • Ngoepe is entering his first season with the Aces and third in the ABLe, having spent the last two seasons with the , as well as two seasons in Major League Baseball and almost 900 in Minor League Baseball. • Made his Major League debut in 2017 with the , as the first African-born player to play Major League Baseball. • When he signed with the Pirates in October 2008 out of MLB’s academy in Tirrenia, Italy, Ngoepe was only the sixth South African to sign a professional baseball contract, then was the first player from an African nation to play in MLB. • Was named the 2019 ABL Defensive Player of the Year with the Sydney Blue Sox (.966 fielding percentage, five errors in 148 chances) and finished second in the league in batting average that season with a .379 mark. • One of only three players in the ABL since 2010 to connect for two triples in one game and one of only four players to be intentionally walked twice in one game. • Additionally, he was a member of the South Africa national baseball team at the 2009 World Baseball Classic, where he collected two triples in five at-bats, as well as at the 2012 and 2016 WBC qualifiers.

#9 ∙ KYLE PERKINS ∙ C/INF/OF HEIGHT: 185 cm WEIGHT: 79 kg B/T: R/R AGE: 29 (28 June 1991) HOMETOWN: Canberra, Australian Capital Territory • Perkins is entering his first season playing for the Aces, but his ninth in the ABL after spending the first eight years of his career with his hometown Canberra Cavalry, with one season in the New York Yankees system as well. • As a catcher, infielder, outfielder and pitcher, Perkin’s 198 lifetime games in the ABL (all with the Cavalry) rank 21st all-time in the league and second all-time in Canberra history, behind his younger brother Robbie’s 255. • Over his eight seasons with the Cavalry, Perkins connected for 25 home runs and driven in 90 runs. • Perkins is one of 12 ABL players to appear in at least 25 games each of the last four seasons, one of two players in with at least five homers each of the last four seasons and the only player with at least 20 RBI each of the last four seasons. • Since his ABL debut in 2010, Perkins has played all over the diamond, with appearances at catcher (48 games), first (5 games), second (1 game), third (9 games), left (85 games), centre (3 games), right (16 games) and pitcher (27 games). • He briefly spent time in the New York Yankees system, playing 13 games for the rookie-level GCL Yankees in 2010 before beginning his career in the ABL.

#22 ∙ JAKE ROMANSKI ∙ C/INF/OF HEIGHT: 180 cm WEIGHT: 90 kg B/T: R/R AGE: 30 (22 December 1990) HOMETOWN: Coronoa, California • Romanski is entering his second season playing for the Aces, after playing everyday for the team in the 2018/19 season and spending seven seasons in the Boston Red Sox minor league system. • The utility player is back with Melbourne after hitting .283 with three home runs in the 2018/19 season, while playing first base, left field and catcher across 40 games for the Aces. • Originally a 14th-round pick by Boston in the 2013 Draft out of San Diego State University, Romanski was named a Red Sox Organization All-Star in 2016 after hitting .308 across 90 games with the Double-A Portland SeaDogs. • The 29-year-old reached Triple-A Pawtucket in 2017 and spent time at Minor League Baseball’s highest level in 2019 as well. • He was twice a Mid-Season All-Star with Boston, in 2016 with the SeaDogs in the Eastern League and 2014 in the South Atlantic League with the Greenville Drive. • Romanski spent the 2020 season playing in the independent Constellation Energy League for the Sugar Land Skeeters and Eastern Reyes del Tigre. In 26 games, he hit .288/.389/.375 with two home runs and 12 runs batted in.

#28 ∙ DAMEK TOMSCHA ∙ INF/OF HEIGHT: 188 cm WEIGHT: 90 kg B/T: R/R AGE: 29 (27 August 1991) HOMETOWN: Sioux City, Iowa • Tomscha is entering his first season playing for the Aces and third playing Winter Ball, with experience of six seasons in Minor League Baseball, as well as a season of independent baseball and two in the Puerto Rican Winter League. • A four-time MLB draft pick, Tomscha signed with Philadelphia after being drafted in the 17th round in the 2014 MLB Draft and spent his six-year Minor League career between the Phillies and White Sox, playing as high as Triple-A in 2019. • He was named an MiLB Organizational All-Star for the Phillies in 2015 and 2017, with career-best .282 and .307 averages respectively. • Tomscha reached Triple-A with Philadelphia’s Lehigh Valley in 2018 and was signed by the White Sox in 2019, though released in June 2020 along with many other players across Minor League Baseball without a season in 2020. • Days after being released, he signed with the Sioux Falls Canaries in the American Association and was voted as the third baseman on the league’s 2020 All-Star Team, helping the Canaries to their first trip to the playoffs in ten seasons. • Tomscha spent the 2017/18 and 2019/19 Minor League offseasons playing for Cangrejeros de Santurce in the Puerto Rican Winter League, where he hit a combined .314 with 10 home runs over 42 games .

#12 ∙ COLIN WILLIS ∙ OF HEIGHT: 183 cm WEIGHT: 81 kg B/T: L/R AGE: 28 (14 August 1992) HOMETOWN: Sheboygan, Wisconsin • A prospect in the Boston Red Sox organization, Willis is back with the Aces for his second season with the club with experience of four seasons in independent baseball. • After a career year in the American Association in 2019, the Boston Red Sox purchased his contract in October 2019, making him the first player from Purdue North Central University to sign with an MLB organization. • Last season, he set the modern ABL’s single-season record for on-base percentage (.520) and also led the league in average (.427) and OPS (1.113) with all three of these marks setting Aces single-season records. • Willis finished in the ABL top-10 in runs batted in (7th – 28), slugging percentage (3rd – .612), hits (5th – 44), doubles (6th – 10), walks (4th – 22) and stolen bases (9th – 7). • After hitting .319 with eight home runs and 49 runs batted in 2017, he was named the American Association Rookie of the Year. In 2018, he was named Gary’s MVP and in 2019, the American Association All-Star Game MVP. • At Purdue North Central, he set the school’s single-season record for hits (93), runs (65), stolen bases (28) and triples (eight) and was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 2016.

#55 ∙ DELMON YOUNG ∙ DH HEIGHT: 190 cm WEIGHT: 108 kg B/T: R/R AGE: 35 (14 September 1985) HOMETOWN: Camarillo, California • Young is entering his third season playing for the Aces and sixth playing Winter Ball, after a 10-year career in the Majors, having most recently played in 2015 with the Orioles and over 1,110 total MLB games between 2006 and 2015. • The first overall pick in the 2003 MLB draft, Young was Baseball America’s 2005 Minor League Player of the Year and the Double-A Southern League’s Most Valuable Player with the Montgomery Biscuits that season. • In 2007, Young hit for a .288 average with 13 home runs and 93 runs batted in with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, finishing runner-up for the ’s Rookie of the Year Award to Boston’s Dustin Pedroia. • Detroit’s all-time leader in postseason homers with nine, Young hit .353 with two home runs and six RBI and was named the 2012 ALCS MVP as the Tigers swept the New York Yankees 4-0. • Last season with the Aces, Young was voted ABL hitting champion by the league’s managers and scariest hitter to face by his fellow players. He led the ABL in home runs, runs batted in, slugging percentage, extra-base hits and total bases. His 42 RBI last season tied with Elliot Biddle in 2011/12 for an Aces single-season record and his 26 home runs are second-most all time by an Aces hitter. PAGE 18

#27 ∙ RYAN DALE ∙ INF HEIGHT: 188 cm WEIGHT: 90 kg B/T: R/R AGE: 24 (16 March 1996) HOMETOWN: Melbourne, Victoria • Dale is entering his ninth season playing for the Aces, beginning with the team in the club’s third season in the ABL and has experience of five seasons in the Kansas City Royals organization. • His 156 games played are 6th-most all-time among Aces hitters and he ranks in the Top-10 in many categories, including at-bats (7th – 439), runs scored (9th – 48), hits (9th – 89), total bases (10th – 116) and walks (10th – 34). • At just 16 years old in July 2021, Dale signed with the Royals and between 2013 and 2017,played 159 games in their system across three different rookie-level teams. He spent the 2013 season in the Arizona Rookie League with the AZL Royals, 2014 and 2017 in the advanced-rookie Appalachian League with the Burlington Royals and 2015 and 2016 in the advanced-rookie Pioneer League with the Idaho Falls Chukars. The Royals released him in February 2018. • He’s shown himself as a versatile player both with the Royals and the Aces, playing all four infield positions and the corner outfield spots. Last season, he played at second base in 14 of his 18 appearances while left field was his primary position in the 2018/19 season. With the Royals organization, he played over 100 games at third base, as well as 37 at first later in his career.
