AGH Managerial Economics 2013, No. 13, pp. 83–98 http://dx.doi.org/10.7494/manage.2013.13.83 Katarzyna Liczmańska*, Agnieszka M. Wiśniewska** A Strong Brand as a Determinant of Purchase the Case of Sectors, where Advertising in Mass Media Is Banned – on the Example of the Polish Spirits Sector 1. Introduction In order to achieve success a company must continually search for develop- ment opportunities, respond to change with new or improved products, tech- nologies, and marketing activities to achieve a competitive advantage over other participants on the market [3, 170]. Marketing departments compete to find innovative products as well as in- teresting means and channels of communication to gain and retain clients. The clients’ contentment and satisfaction lead to repeat purchase and even recom- mendations, which in turn is an affirmation of the company’s right of existence. Regular purchase loyalty contributes to an increase in market share, while positive attitudes accompanying loyalty allow companies to raise prices [2, 82]. Eventually all the above result in the company’s profit. A powerful tool combining rationally evaluated functional values based on results and facts with emotional values which are subject to affective evaluation is a strong brand [5, 20]. A brand gives identity to a product defined in the last cen- tury by Ph. Kotler as anything offered to potential buyers to satisfy their needs or desires. A brand also distinguishes the product from its competitors. A brand helps avoid using prices as an instrument of competition, this usually means a decrease in company sales if its competitors offer a similar price.

The antioxidant properties of nalewkas made according to homemade recipes were compared to commercially produced nalewkas. The impact of aging on antioxidant properties of nalewkas was investigated. The results showed that all of examined nalewkas exhibited strong antioxidant properties (antioxidant capacity TEACDPPH 466 μmol TE/100 mL – 11890 μmol TE/100 mL). It was found that the value of the antioxidant capacity corresponds to the total phenolic and aromatic proton content. The impact of the production method and the type of fruit used on the TEACDPPH value was also noted. The unripe walnuts with green husks has the highest value of the antioxidant capacity TEACDPPH (11890 µM/100 mL) not only for alcoholic beverages, but also among food products. Fruits and fruit preserves are a valuable source of compounds with antioxidant properties, as well as some vita- mins and minerals1. In literature, one can fnd numerous studies on the antioxidant properties of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as products made from them, such as juices, purees, compotes.

Managerial Economics 2013, No.

  • Millionaires' Club
THE DEFINITIVE RANKING OF THE WORLD'S MILLION-CASE SPIRITS BRANDS 2014 TPSSPVUHPYLThe Z» The TPSSPVUHPYLZ» JUNE 2014 DRINKSINT.COM 3 GRAND DESIGNS t was once a case of the worldly and the parochial – the global brands and the local brands. But what happens when local goes international, when low- value operators premiumise? In The Millionaires’ IClub 2014, we have learned of such grand plans. Take our immovable champion, Jinro. Far from content with 66.5m case sales concentrated in South Korea and nearby Japan, Hite-Jinro has set about achieving 100m cases in the next 10 years, by seeding the brand in the 11 world markets with a population of more than 100m. That includes the US – a market now inhabited by Philippine rum Tanduay and the world’s latest largest whisky brand, Officer’s Choice, which has entered New York. In the west there is a tendency to think the flow of globalisation only works in one direction, from traditional to emerging markets. But the growth obsession is an instinct of business, not the preserve of the elite. Spirits companies propagated in volatile emerging markets are all too aware that a one-market policy can build volumes but not a secure future. Market plurality is the best way to mitigate exposure. Johnnie Walker is the exemplar. With Asia ailing in 2013, the brand’s worldwide distribution kept sales walking in the right direction. Of course, emerging brands will have to climb the premium ladder quickly if they are to take on Johnnie contents Walker’s ilk in the likes of the US and western Europe.
