"For someone who's scared to death of needles, the lab helped allay my fear," says pharmacy student Anna Lee, who went through the lesson last year. "We first had to learn to practice our wrist technique on an orange, which we did probably a million times before we had to do the real thing on our partner. We got evaluated for our techniques in the process." The third-year pharmacy students also will test each f other's cholesterol levels and l learn how to educate patients about the options for lowering cholesterol. They will each slip an ankle into an osteoanalyzer machine, which measures bone density in the heel. They learn how to interpret test results and what they can tell patients about preventing osteoporosis or improving bone density.
