Previous meetings • PSV shrugged off an early Paul Scholes penalty to beat United 3-1 at home in the first group stage in 2000/01, Wilfred Bouma, Mark van Bommel and Mateja Kežman scoring. • United turned the tables with a 3-1 victory at Old Trafford where Scholes and Dwight Yorke struck late goals after Van Bommel had equalised a Teddy Sheringham strike. Ryan Giggs, now Van Gaal's assistant manager, played in both matches for United who ended up qualifying in second place, a point above PSV. • United also got the better of PSV in the 1984/85 UEFA Cup second round, Gordon Strachan's extra-time goal at Old Trafford securing a 1-0 aggregate win. Match background PSV • Dutch champions PSV are in the UEFA Champions League group stage for the first time since 2008/09. • In last season's UEFA Europa League, they reached the round of 32 before losing to FC Zenit. They lost their last two home games of that campaign – 1-0 against both FC Dinamo Moskva and Zenit. • PSV have lost their last three home games against Premier League teams. Their most recent success came when Cocu was still playing – 1-0 against Arsenal FC in the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League round of 16. • For Cocu this is the first taste of the UEFA Champions League proper as a coach. He was in charge when PSV lost to AC Milan in the 2013/14 play-offs. Manchester United • United are back in the UEFA Champions League after a season's exile. Fourth in the 2014/15 Premier League, they beat Club Brugge KV 7-1 on aggregate in last month's play-off round to secure their participation. • United won 2-0 at AFC Ajax on their last visit to the Netherlands in the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League round of 32, Ashley Young opening the scoring. David De Gea, Phil Jones, Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney also played. • Their record away to Dutch clubs is W2 D2 L2. United also played the 1991 European Cup Winners' Cup final in Rotterdam, beating Barcelona 2-1. Coach and player links • Cocu was a player in Van Gaal's Barcelona (1998–2000, 2002–03) and Netherlands (2000–01) teams. • Cocu faced United once as a player – in Barça's 3-3 group stage draw at Old Trafford on 16 September 1998. Van Gaal was Barcelona coach at the time.

De trainer kondigde al op 27 Mei 2012 zijn afscheid aan als hoofdtrainer van FC Barcelona, maar ik ben hem nog lang niet vergeten. Guardiola’s afscheid was een stoot in het gezicht van de ‘’Culés’’, een enorme stoot. Het was alsof de wereld ophield met bestaan voor de echte, echte doorgewinterde fans. Zo ook voor mij, maar voor mij hield de treurnis niet op toen er goede resultaten werden geboekt met ‘’Tito’’, nee, ik bleef ‘’El Pep’’ missen. Guardiola verkeert nu in New York, om daar nog anoniem over straat te kunnen. Eventjes weg van alle rumoer in Europa, maar Pep weet dondersgoed dat zijn naam elke dag in de krant verschijnt. Hij geniet van het leven, na 4 zeer stressvolle jaartjes bij Barcelona, en die jaren hebben Pep zijn haren gekost. Hij gaat naar basketbalwedstrijden, en is regelmatig te vinden bij de concerten van zijn favoriete band, Coldplay.

    Noa Lang Ontleed Kapsel Noa Lang heeft opvallende krulletjes, maar hier was hij vroeger zelf niet blij mee. Waarom niet? In zijn jeugd was de Duitse middenvelder Bastian Schweinsteiger zijn grootste idool. Hij had zijn haren altijd stijl naar de zijkant toe gekamd. Lang wilde dat ook, maar dat ging niet met zijn krullen. Gelukkig was Lang geen fan van David Luiz, want dat duurt wel heel lang om te laten groeien! Hoofd Al zijn hele leven lang wist hij het: ik wil profvoetballer worden. Die gedachte is nooit meer uit zijn hoofd verdwenen. Iedere dag trainde hij met de bal. Hij was zelfs aan het trainen als het regende of koud was. Dan wil je echt heel graag! Doordat hij zoveel trainde, kon hij al snel goed voetballen. Daarom moest hij van de trainer altijd tegen oudere en grotere jongens spelen, net reuzen! Maar Lang kan reuzegoed voetballen, dus kon hij het makkelijk aan. Mond Vroeger was Lang niet de makkelijkste jongen om mee samen te werken. Hij was niet op zijn mondje gevallen zei altijd wat hij dacht. Daardoor had hij regelmatig ruzie met trainers en leiders. Niet zo handig, Noa! Nu is het een stuk beter, want Lang maakt nooit meer ruzie op het voetbalveld. Rug Ben jij weleens op je rug gevallen tijdens het voetballen? Dan weet je dat het veel pijn kan doen! Dat weet ook Lang. Hij viel op zijn zestiende hard op zijn rug tijdens het voetballen. De dokter wist niet eens of hij daarna nog kon sporten! Dagenlang mocht hij niet veel bewegen om te herstellen.

Spieltag und dem drittletzten Heimauftritt unserer Wölfe in dieser Saison. Die Vorzeichen des heutigen Duells zwischen dem aktuellen Tabellendritten und dem Fünften, dem BVB aus Dortmund, versprechen Hochspannung: Sowohl Grün-Weiß als auch Schwarz-Gelb können mit Erfolgserlebnissen im Rücken ins Duell um die Champions- League- Qualifikation gehen. Während Wolfsburg nach zuvor zwei knappen und torreichen Niederlagen in Frankfurt und gegen die Bayern am Mittwoch beim VfB Stuttgart mit 3:1 zurück in die Spur gefunden und sich damit bereits das Ticket für einen europäischen Wettbewerb gesichert hat, feierte der BVB beim 2:0 gegen Union Berlin seinen dritten Sieg in Folge. Mit aktuell fünf Zählern Vorsprung vor der Borussia befindet sich der VfL in der Pole-Position, die Dortmunder sind eigentlich zum Siegen verdammt, um vier Spieltage vor Schluss wieder richtig in den Showdown um die Königsklasse eingreifen zu können. Während die historische Bundes- liga-Bilanz zwar eindeutig für Schwarz-Gelb spricht, hat Grün-Weiß in dieser Saison allerdings bewiesen, gerade zuhause gegen jeden Gegner bestehen zu können. Das 2:3 gegen die Bayern war nicht nur unglücklich und am Ende unnötig, es war zugleich erst die allererste Saisonniederlage im heimischen Rund. Und überhaupt: 57 Punkte nach 30 Partien bedeuten die drittbeste Bilanz aller Zeiten für den VfL. Nur in der Meistersaison 2008/2009 (60) und in der Vize-Meister-Saison 2014/2015 (61) waren die Wölfe besser. Positiv ist auch, dass mit den beiden Außenverteidigern Kevin Mbabu und Paulo Otavio zwei zuletzt gesperrte Defensivkräfte zurückkehren, auch Captain Josuha Guilavogui dürfte zu Ende diese letzten englischen Woche der Saison nach verletzungsbedingtem Ausfall wieder eine Option sein.

Maar nu, een jaar later, is het dan toch zover en mag SC Cambuur zich de trotse kampioen van de Keuken Kampioen Divisie noemen. Een onwaarschijnlijke prestatie na die dreun van vorig jaar en allereerst een felicitatie aan iedereen met een geel-blauw hart! Aanvoerder Erik Schouten die in het AFAS Stadion, waar diezelfde Ricky uit de speakers kwam, dé schaal omhoog tilde en daarmee aan heel Nederland liet zien wie de kampioen van de Eerste Divi- sie is. Beelden voor de eeuwigheid en de ultieme sportieve revanche voor heel SC Cambuur en misschien wel het voetbal als geheel. Want als iets hoort bij topsport is het winnen en verliezen en afrekenen op sportieve prestaties. SPORTIEVE PLICHT Voor SC Cambuur is dat vanavond niet anders als het met De Graafschap de naaste belager van de afgelopen twee seizoenen treft. Iedereen uit Leeuwarden en omgeving zal het de Superboeren gunnen om ook te promoveren, maar in het profvoetbal worden nou eenmaal geen cadeautjes uitgedeeld. Of zoals Henk de Jong het terecht aanstipte: “We hebben een sportieve plicht te ver- vullen en als sportman wil je gewoon altijd winnen.” RECORDJACHT Daarbij kunnen de mannen van De Jong ook het Bronzen Schild als winnaar van de vierde periode nog aan de toch al indrukwekkende prijzenkast van dit seizoen toevoegen.
