Gibbosaccus, Chiritopsis, and Wentsaiboea. Based on phylogenetic analyses of ITS sequences and apparent morphological similarity, we make further transfers of six species of Chirita (C. leprosa, C. lijiangensis, C. ningmingensis, C. luochengensis, C. rongshuiensis, and C. tiandengensis) and four of Chiritopsis (Ch. danxiaensis, Ch. hezhouensis, Ch. jingxiensis, and Ch. longzhouensis) that were neglected or published around or slightly after these recent taxonomic treatments. The proposed Guangxi Third Highway Project is part of the provincial government's strategy for poverty alleviation in Guangxi. Many of the project areas are still without road access to the outside world and poor communication is a big obstacle in local development. Local people and government in the project areas have expressed realized the importance and significance of communications improvement in the project areas. There is a popular saying that "To become rich, build roads first." This well demonstrates their need and desire to build roads as a priority for poverty alleviation. This proposed project will significantly promote the poverty alleviation efforts and development in the project areas. Public Disclosure Authorized 2. The highway project would go through a largely ethnic minority area. About 29,302 people would be affected by land acquisition and house demolition under the project and over 95% of them belong to national ethnic minority groups. The World Bank OD 4.20 requires that a development plan be prepared to ensure that i) the development process fosters full respect for the dignity, human rights and cultural uniqueness of the minorities, and ii) the minority groups do not suffer adverse effects during the development process and iii) they receive culturally compatible social and economic benefits. 3. In line with the requirements of China laws, regulations and World Bank Operational Directive 4.30 on Involuntary Resettlement and 4.20 on Indigenous People, Guangxi Communications Department, with the assistance of Xi'an Highway University Public Disclosure Authorized and Guangxi Social Science Academy, has prepared a Resettlement Action Plan to cope with the adverse impacts, including those of land acquisition and house demolition. -

The new species is represented by specimens of the distinctive suborbital spine. The bifid suborbital spines are 1.8−3.0 mm in length. Their laterocaudal processes are thinner and shorter than their mediocaudal processes, and the lengths of the laterocaudal processes are about 1/3 of those of the mediocaudal ones. The lateral process of the spine is prominent. The new species most closely resembles †Cobitis primigenus from the Late Oligocene deposits of Germany, but in †C. nanningensis the lateral process of the suborbital spine is more developed. The discovery of the new species and other previously known fossils of Cobitis indicate that the Cobitidae family has had a wide distribution in Eurasia since at least Oligocene. Its presence was officially announced in mainland China in Jan 2005. To date, it has been identified in 4 provinces in mainland China (Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan, Fujian) in a total of 31 municipal districts. The total area reported to be infested by S. invicta in late 2006 was about 7,120 ha, mainly in Guangdong Province (6,332 ha). Most of the re- ported human stings are in the heavily infested area around Wuchuan City. The most com- monly reported reactions have been abnormal redness of the skin, sterile pustules, hives, pain, and/or fever. It has been predicted that most of mainland China is viable habitat for red imported fire ants, including 25 of 31 provinces. The probable northern limit of expan- sion reaches Shandong, Tianjing, south Henan, and Shanxi provinces. Traditional and new insecticides including the bait N-butyl perfluorooctane sulfonamide and the contact insecti- cide Yichaoqing have been developed and used to control S. invicta. This study aims to provide the theoretical basis for test environment evaluation and ecological zone division for sugarcane cultivars. In the present study, sugarcane yield data from a three-year nationwide field trial involving 21 cultivars and 14 pilot test locations were analysed using both analysis of variance (ANOVA) and heritability adjusted-genotype main effect plus genotype-environment interaction (HA-GGE) biplot. The results showed that among the interactive factors, the GE interaction had the greatest impact, while the genotype and year interaction showed the lowest impact. Kaiyuan, Lincang and Baoshan of Yunnan, Zhangzhou and Fuzhou of Fujian, and Hechi, Liuzhou and Chongzuo of Guangxi, and Lingao of Hainan were ideal test environments with a demonstrated high efficiency in selecting new cultivars with a wide adaptability, whereas Baise of Guangxi was not. Based on HA-GGE biplot analysis, there are three ecological sugarcane production zones in China, the Southern China Inland Zone, the Southwestern Plateau Zone, and the Southern Coastal Zone. The HA-GGE biplot analysis here presents the ideal test environments and also identifies the mega-environment for sugarcane cultivars in China. Environmental changes affect both crop growth and yield due to significant genotype × environment interactions (GE)1–5. -

Wei Deng1&, Long Long2&*, Xian-Yan Tang3, Tian-Ren Huang1, Ji-Lin Li1, Min- Hua Rong1, Ke-Zhi Li1, Hai-Zhou Liu1 Abstract Geographic information system (GIS) technology has useful applications for epidemiology, enabling the detection of spatial patterns of disease dispersion and locating geographic areas at increased risk. In this study, we applied GIS technology to characterize the spatial pattern of mortality due to liver cancer in the autonomous region of Guangxi Zhuang in southwest China. A database with liver cancer mortality data for 1971-1973, 1990-1992, and 2004-2005, including geographic locations and climate conditions, was constructed, and the appropriate associations were investigated. It was found that the regions with the highest mortality rates were central Guangxi with Guigang City at the center, and southwest Guangxi centered in Fusui County. Regions with the lowest mortality rates were eastern Guangxi with Pingnan County at the center, and northern Guangxi centered in Sanjiang and Rongshui counties. Regarding climate conditions, in the 1990s the mortality rate of liver cancer positively correlated with average temperature and average minimum temperature, and negatively correlated with average precipitation. In 2004 through 2005, mortality due to liver cancer positively correlated with the average minimum temperature. Regions of high mortality had lower average humidity and higher average barometric pressure than did regions of low mortality. -
