Commercial Radio Australia MEDIA RELEASE 25 September 2013 YouTube sensation Natalie Tran & self confessed social media junkie Jules Lund to speak at National Radio Conference One of Australia's most-viewed online video producers, Natalie Tran and self-confessed multi- media junkie, Today Network presenter, Jules Lund will speak to the commercial radio industry at the National Radio Conference, to be held on 11 October at the Royal International Convention Centre in Brisbane. With more than 2.25 million followers between them across Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, Natalie Tran and Jules Lund will feature in separate sessions at the conference, with a focus on content creation and sharing the details of their individual successes. Since her first post in September 2006, videos on Ms Tran's YouTube ‘communitychannel' have accumulated almost half a billion views and more than 1.3 million subscribers. Her loyal audience is built on funny, observational, often self-deprecating videos which are a mixture of sketches and monologue. At the National Radio Conference, Ms Tran will describe her journey, from making videos on her webcam to achieving internet celebrity status. She will share insights into her content development process and the ways she maintains the relationship with her significant fan base. “It's exciting to be able to share with people my experiences as an independent content producer as the paths of people like myself and more traditional outlets merge to form new roads between content and its audiences,” said Ms Tran. “Are you Likeable?” is the title of the Jules Lund session and he will attempt to explain the social media rules of engagement and cultivating an audience connection more intimate than ever before. In 2011, Lund teamed up with Fifi Box to present afternoons on the Today Network, a role that saw him win the Best Newcomer at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards. He has embraced the digital space and leads the charge for the show’s active and passionate online community, propelling the team to achieving one of the best performing Social Media portfolio’s in Australian radio. Commercial Radio Australia chief executive officer, Joan Warner said: "Natalie Tran has achieved outstanding success by establishing intimate, personal connections with a mass audience and there are clear parallels with the radio industry. Jules has extended his on-air engagement across social media and provides a great example of tailoring content to extend his audience outside of his drive show. We're looking forward to both presentations at the conference.” Previously announced conference speakers include: Naked Communications' Adam Ferrier, the man behind Hamish & Andy, Sam Cavanagh, 2014 radio ratings provider, GfK and leading US radio sales industry trainer, Pat Bryson. Further speakers will be announced this week. The National Radio Conference will be staged this year in Brisbane, the day before the 25th annual Australian Commercial Radio Awards. • Will Kyle and Jackie O Give Mix106.5 the KIIS of Life?
Article No. 5379 Available on www.roymorgan.com Link to Roy Morgan Profiles Thursday, 16 January 2014 Will Kyle and Jackie O give Mix106.5 the KIIS of life? Monday 20 January promises to be a massive day for Sydney breakfast radio. For those who’ve been living in a cave in Outer Mongolia (or outside Sydney, as the case may be!), that’s the date long-time 2Day FM breakfast DJs Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O start their new show at rival station Mix106.5 FM. It’s also the date Mix106.5 FM will be rebranded as KIIS FM. So will these major changes have the desired effect for Mix, boosting both their audience and advertising revenue? Roy Morgan investigates… The total Sydney radio market comprises almost 3.9 million people. According to data from Roy Morgan Research, market leader 2Day’s total audience comprises 15% of this (568,000 people), well ahead of Mix106.5’s 10% market share (393,000 people). With 506,000 listeners, or 13% market share, Nova 96.9 FM has Sydney’s second-largest commercial audience. Battle of the breakfasters Breakfast (5.30–9am) is traditionally one of commercial radio’s most competitive timeslots, and has been dominated in Sydney by Southern Cross Austereo-owned 2Day FM’s Kyle and Jackie O Show for years. In the 12 months to September 2013, 349,000 Sydneysiders (or 9% of the city’s total radio market) listened to the show at least once in any given seven-day period. 2Day, Mix106.5 and Nova 96.9: total vs breakfast audience numbers 600 568 506 IMMEDIATE RELEASE 500 393 400 FOR 349 300 262 Audience ('000) 206 200 100 0 2Day FM Mix 106.5 Nova 96.9 Total Audience Breakfast Show Audience Source: Roy Morgan Single Source (Australia), October 2012-September 2013 (n = 10,135).
