Press Release: Plateau of the High Fens Nature Park, Weekend of 16-17 January 2021. a Task Force Composed of Representatives Of Press release: Plateau of the High Fens Nature Park, Weekend of 16-17 January 2021. A task force composed of representatives of the municipalities of Jalhay, Waimes, Malmedy and Eupen meets up regularly with representatives of the Public Service of Wallonia, the police zones, the forestry offices and the tourism sector in order to accompany the new and repeated mass tourism in the best possible way. After being closed to traffic for two weekends, the High Fens Plateau will be reopened to traffic this weekend. Parking outside the national roads will be given priority. Mobile homes will still not be allowed to park there or stay overnight. They will be redirected to the mobilhome parking areas of Sourbrodt, Baugnez, Sankt Vith, Malmedy or Eupen. Snow clearance will be planned when necessary to optimise the amount of available space. - On the High Fens plateau, the parking areas of Baraque Michel, Mont Rigi, Signal de Botrange, Peak Brewery, ... will be accessible. Parking along the national road will only be allowed on one side and only on specific sections. The Public Service of Wallonia is the road operator and is thus responsible for installing the signage. Police forces from the respective police zones will be on the road to strictly apply the parking and traffic regulations. - In the Northern Fens, on the N67 between Eupen and the German border, the Ternell, Brackvenn and Plattevenn parking areas will be cleared and made accessible. The East Belgium Tourist Agency (EBTA) and the Sart-Jalhay Tourist Information Office will focus their communications and information on other impressive walks and landscapes on their territory, outside the High Fens. Special attention will also be paid to waste disposal. The litter bins will be emptied more frequently and at the same time visitors will be asked to behave respectfully, especially in the nature reserve. After the weekend, an evaluation of the concept, the traffic flow, the parking situation and the respect for the nature reserve will be made in order to consider measures for the next weekends. Walkers are asked to respect the nature that surrounds them by not carelessly discarding their rubbish and by staying on the designated paths. Attention, parking is limited despite the improvements and tourists are asked to consider other places that are less visited than the High Fens at the moment. Visitors from neighbouring countries are also informed through the Euregio. • Citizens Summary
Annual Implementation Report 2019 CITIZENS’ SUMMARY The Annual Implementation Report of the Interreg Euregio Meuse-Rhine programme (Interreg EMR) for 2019 provides detailed insight into the programme’s activities between 1 January and 31 December 2019. This Citizens’ Summary presents key points and highlights from the year. The European Union strives to reduce disparities in the levels of development, growth and quality of life in and across Europe’s regions. Interreg Euregio Meuse-Rhine contributes directly to this objective by supporting cross-border collaboration between the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Cross-Border Cooperation in Areas and Numbers In 2019, 37 cooperation projects saw 250 partners in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium work on shared goals and building long-lasting networks and partnerships. The European Union invests EUR 96 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) into cross-border projects in our region from 2014- 2020. Furthermore, EUR 44 million are envisioned to be invested in Interreg EMR projects by other means of funding (e.g. regional or private funding) within the programme period. Until the end of 2019, almost EUR 78.5 million of the European Union funding have been committed. The remaining 18% will be available during calls for projects in 2020. Objectives of Interreg EMR The objectives of Interreg EMR are to support innovative ideas, boost the economy, support educational projects and as well as removing barriers between the three countries. We aim to create a favourable cross-border atmosphere, to encourage people to seek and also build business opportunities and other forms of cooperation beyond their national limitations.

CIRCUIT DE SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps motor-racing circuit is the venue of the Formula One Belgian Grand Prix, and of the Spa 24 Hours and 1000 km Spa endurance races. It is one of the most challenging race tracks in the world, mainly due to its fast, hilly and twisty nature. Spa is a favourite circuit of many racing drivers and fans. The circuit probably demonstrates the importance of driver skill more than any other in the world. This is largely due to the Eau Rouge and Blanchimont corners, both which need to be taken flat out to achieve a fast run onto the straights after them, which aids a driver in both a fast lap and in overtaking. This is no more than a snowfield with a single drag-lift, whose highest point is 600m. Obviously, experienced skiers do not go there - which is precisely why it is such an enjoyable place.
