I cannot know exactly what is happening around you as you read this. But whatever the situation, this directory can help you respond. My guess is that more ripple effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are beginning to be understood, and that others will take time to comprehend. I also hope that in moments of openness and creativity, people are focusing on what we can learn; what the hidden opportunities will be; how humanity will be taught in new ways. I invite you to be part of that. I invite you to breathe and remember your ability to choose and act for good; to trust that God is with you and us; and to listen in new ways to how this time calls to you. I invite you to honor whatever led you to pick up RESPONSE. I hope you will open to where that may lead. Regardless of what is happening in the world, faith and service are needed. Service is a powerful force that is necessary at all times. It is a gift you can offer all along your journey. CVN members are ready to help you express your gifts. They know how much those will mean to others, and how much you will receive in return. At this time in our country’s history, commitments to service and justice are especially important. Our nation needs people like you to help it recover and rebuild. You can be part of the solution. You can learn about yourself in ways that enable you to promote change and healing for the rest of your life. Your faith combined with the supports CVN members provide will allow you to transform and be transformed. CVN’s over 130 programs are committed to service, discernment, and community. In the past three years, they have empowered 50,000 volunteers to serve nearly 3 million people annually. Moreover, CVN understands the relationship between serving others and deepening your understanding of calling, purpose, and meaning. We can help you pursue questions about who you are becoming – and what you offer a world in need. Full-time, faith-based service is just one step to becoming a more spiritually-grounded leader who will continue promoting positive change in the future. Whatever our progress in recovering from COVID-19, that will still be needed. You can choose at any time to be part of any number of solutions. RESPONSE may help you in this moment. Breathe, trust, listen. Communities around the world – in whatever state they are now – need you. The Church confirmed on Friday that the former Archbishop of St Andrews and Edinburgh will continue to observe the strictly private life he has lived since he resigned in February 2013 before the last Papal election. He will no longer be performing the key duties of a cardinal—such as holding Pontifical Commission office or attending or participating in consistories or conclaves—but retains his ‘red hat.’ Pope Francis has asked Cardinal O’Brien (below) to keep living a simple and quiet life following the cardinal’s admission of behaviour unbecoming of his office. A formal statement released by the Vatican said: “The Holy Father has accepted the resignation of the rights and privileges of a cardinal, expressed in canons 349, 353 and Open your hearts to the deafblind 356 of the Code of Canon Law, presented by His Eminence Cardinal I Keith Michael Patrick O’Brien, World’s only deaf and blind priest calls on Catholics to show love to the visually and hearing impaired Archbishop Emeritus of St Andrews By Daniel Harkins Fr Cyril Axelrod OBE, a deaf blind South African priest and Edinburgh, after a period of wisdom and helps people to learn to communicate in (wearing kilt), visited Scotland last week and is seen here prayer and penance.

  • Encyclopedia of New Religious Movements
Encyclopedia of New Religious Movements New Religious Movements (NRMs) can involve vast numbers of followers and in many cases are radically changing the way people understand and practice religion and spirituality. Moreover, they are having a profound impact on the form and content of mainstream religion. The Encyclopedia of New Religious Movements provides uniquely global coverage of the phenomenon, with entries on over three-hundred movements from almost every country worldwide. Coverage includes movements that derive from the major religions of the world as well as neo-traditional movements, which are often overlooked in the study of NRMs. In addition to the coverage of particular movements there are also entries on broad classifications and themes, and key topics, thinkers and ideas—the New Age Movement, Neo-Paganism, gender and NRMs, cyberspace religions, the Anti-Cult Movement, Swedenborg, Jung, de Chardin, Lovelock, Gurdjieff, al-Banna, Qutb. The marked global approach and comprehensiveness of the encyclopedia enable an appreciation of the innovative energy of NRMs, of their extraordinary diversity, and the often surprising ways in which they can propagate geographically. A most ambitious publication of its sort, the Encyclopedia of New Religious Movements is a major addition to the reference literature for students and researchers in the field of religious studies and the social sciences. Entries are cross-referenced, many with short bibliographies for further reading. There is a full index. Peter B.Clarke is Professor Emeritus of the History and Sociology of Religion at King’s College, University of London, UK and Professorial Member, Faculty of Theology, University of Oxford, UK.

Nonpartisanship is a cornerstone principle that has strengthened the public’s trust of the charitable community. In exchange for enjoying tax-exempt status and the ability to receive tax-deductible contributions, 501(c)(3) organizations – charitable nonprofits, including religious congregations, and foundations – agree to not engage in “any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office.” That provision of law protects the integrity and independence of charitable nonprofits and foundations.
