  • A December to Remember ~A Baby Changes Everything~
A December To Remember ~A Baby Changes Everything~ Take a few minutes with your family each day to think about Advent and the amazing prophecies, people and events that led up to the birth of Jesus. Advent is a time of expectation and hope and it means “arrival” or “coming”. Each Sunday in Advent will help us remember that God made a promise from the beginning that He would send a Savior. Let’s pause each day in December and remember why Jesus came at Christmas. Our family Christmas traditions are a wonderful way to share Christ with friends, family and people we come in contact with. A Baby truly changes everything! Unwrap the beautiful gift of His Presence and find joy in knowing that Jesus is the real reason for the season. God orchestrated every moment of Jesus’ life and He has a plan and a purpose for yours too. Sunday, Advent Focus: Hope November 29 Advent is a time of waiting and a time of hope. Jesus is our hope for forgiveness, for salvation, for a future, in times of need, and He’s also our hope for eternity with God. Start this advent season reading verses that tell of hope such as Isaiah 40:31 and Jeremiah 17:7. Think about those you know that need God’s hope and pray for them today. Monday, Baking cookies to give away is a favorite holiday pastime. Find your favorite recipes and bake November 30 some this week with your family. The Snow Is Melting For Christmas A Cultural Study of the Holiday Season through Music A STUDY GUIDE AND TEACHERS LESSONS PART ONE – Celebrations of the Holiday Season For this music of Hope Holidays and Joy © 2009 Gary S. Schofield PART 1:– Celebration of the Holidays, Joy and Appreciation TEACHER LESSONS A: TEACHER APPRECIATION Listen to Track 10 “The Teacher Appreciation Song” Introduction One of the most important parts of life is being aware of, and appreciating, what we have. Without this awareness it becomes very hard to be happy at all and the pursuit of happiness is so important as to be placed in our Bill of Rights. Living in the wealthiest and most powerful country in the world you think should be enough but it is not unless we are aware. Understanding and appreciation of everything comes through education. Teachers give us a gift that we can keep for life, while sharing with others. This is am important time of the year for reflection and all the Worlds’ religions place knowledge and enlightenment very highly. It is not easy to manage a group of energetic children and shape them into wise people so saying thank you is the least we can do. “The Teacher Appreciation Song” A cool school feature is an apple for the teacher A prudent student sometimes gives a clap Lots of books and spelling and math But we just keep our pencils sharp and sing just like an angels harp To gear for a tiny revelation; Today, boys and girls, its teacher appreciation! So let’s Rock, Let’s Roll To give those kids a goal Let’s wave, raise, cheer a flag to salute our teachers dear Some fun with pencils and a paper and eraser A prudent student sometimes gives a clap Its time to take a little recess, we all confess; “We love what you do you help us see the world anew” We hope one day to be like you And walk a path of knowledge or prepare for college But most importantly you set us free to be the person we want to be And in many years when our children appear we will tell them what we learned right here © 2009 Gary S.

  • A Different Kind of Christmas 2020 Advent Devotional
http://clipart-library.com/newimages/advent-clip-art-9.jpg [retrieved November 24, 2020] A Different Kind of Christmas 2020 Advent Devotional A Different Kind of Christmas 2020 Advent Devotional Welcome to A Different Kind of Christmas daily devotional. Inside you’ll find meditations and reflections on the meaning of Christmas as it connects to the four themes we’ll be considering during the Advent season to help us truly live and give like Jesus in celebration of his birth and all year round. Each week begins with a Sabbath pause on Sunday. There is no reflection or scripture to read only a prayer focus for the week and an invitation to rest in preparation for the coming week’s exploration. Then each day offers a brief reading (sometimes including scripture and prayer) written by church members and staff to help focus us on the week’s theme and draw us closer to the power of God in the sending of Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit. Suggestions for use: • Use this booklet at the same time every day • Prepare a space that is free of distraction and spend at least 10 minutes reading, praying, and being present to God • Consider holding a sacred object in your hand such as a cross, a nativity figurine, a cherished ornament, or other object that will help you focus on the gift of Jesus Christ • Above all, expect God to show up and don’t give up if your time doesn’t feel immediately transformative. Trust that the Holy Spirit is at work in you through this journey.

  • The Gifts of Pentecost Acts 2: 1-21 Rev. Carrie Bail June 4, 2017 First
The Gifts of Pentecost Acts 2: 1-21 Rev. Carrie Bail June 4, 2017 First Congregational Church UCC of Burlington, VT. Today includes celebrations of at least two different kinds: we are celebrating Sunday School teachers and helpers who have been sharing their gifts with us all year; and we are celebrating our high school graduates during our time of prayer. But did you know that today we have one more celebration? It’s also the birthday of the church. I’m sure that sounds funny to you children, because when you think of birthday parties there are usually decorations and games, and cake and ice cream, and especially presents! Maybe you are wondering how a building gets to have a birthday. Or maybe you wonder why we have red paraments on the lectern, and I have a red stole. That’s the first surprise. It’s not the birthday of a building at all. What IS the church? It’s a gathering of people, some who worship in buildings, some who don’t even have buildings to gather in but meet outside, congregations all around the world, people who are followers of Jesus Christ. Today all around the globe we are remembering one very special day. On that day, the very first people who were followers of Jesus Christ, those who were his disciples and friends during the time he was living on earth, became something more than just a bunch of people grieving their friend: they became The Church. How did that happen, on that day, that they became The Church? Well you heard the story from the Bible just a few minutes ago.
