Position Summary Under the limited supervision of the VP, Field Marketing, the Manager, Field Marketing and Training is responsible for building the marketing capacity of a portfolio of ten to twelve states, located primarily in the Western U.S., in order to build the 4-H brand, increase alumni engagement and grow revenue nationally and locally. This includes leading and developing training, consulting and knowledge sharing programs to localize national marketing initiatives, leverage key brand assets and foster best-in-class marketing practices in the assigned territory. The position will also work in collaboration with local, state and national 4-H staff to take key learnings from strategies and tactics implemented locally to scale more effective marketing practices across the 4-H system.

Responsibilities

Council Leadership

 In collaboration with CMO, VP, Field Marketing and other marketing functional leads, help determine and implement ways to build state and local 4-H marketing capacity in ways that are aligned with organizational goals.  Partner with other National 4-H Council teams to implement field-facing vendor relationships to support the localization of national marketing initiatives.

Marketing Consulting and Training

 Lead and direct a comprehensive marketing training/consulting program aimed at localizing national initiatives and developing basic marketing skills among a portfolio of ten to twelve states, located primarily in the western U.S., with a priority focus on alumni engagement.  Administer capacity assessments and work with investor states to develop and execute annual tactical plans and dashboards to drive return on investment, with a special focus on alumni acquisition/engagement and high-value media  Develop and execute regional as well as state-specific training plans to build marketing capacity in assigned states including train the trainer, in-person and virtual with a focus on alumni acquisition and adoption of national marketing assets  Provide intensive marketing basics training/assistance with emphasis on 4-H’s brand platform, messaging, and brand graphic standards; marketing plan development and target marketing to 4-H alumni.  Help to develop general and target marketing training/education via large scale national and regional events including annual professional conferences and workshops.  Consult with state and local 4-H programs in the assigned territory to provide on-going marketing guidance and assistance.  Implement evaluation processes to garner insights, collect key learnings/best practices and inform broader marketing approach to influence more local 4-H programs.

Field Marketing and Partnerships

 Collaborate with other key national field marketing staff to develop an annual National 4-H marketing calendar and promote primary activation periods to support joint national and local marketing and fundraising efforts.  Support implementation and execution of national marketing and fundraising initiatives in assigned territory, focusing on key national brand assets including , PR, signature events, thought leadership, cause marketing, Web/social media and e-philanthropy.  Serve as a liaison with state 4-H offices and their field marketing leads in the assigned territory, building strong relationships through on-going communications and excellent customer service; strategically leverage Council and pro-bono resources to support States/Counties.  Manage a network of state and local 4-H professionals with marketing expertise in the assigned territory to inform ongoing field marketing strategy development, alumni engagement and to champion nationally developed field marketing resources.  Oversee work and serve as a primary liaison with nationally-contracted marketing vendors to support media placements and strategies in key metro markets within the assigned territory.  Help to develop and apply national criteria to identify best-in-class local marketing within assigned territory for national recognition and promotion.  Collaborate with the entire Field Marketing team and Creative Services to support stand-out and creative offerings to the 4-H field from Council that align with brand campaign tactics.

Business Management and Practices  Ensure all work supports and aligns with 4-H’s brand position and architecture, and achieves strategic brand goals.

 Customer service function to intake requests and comments from the 4-H field and deliver results within the Field Marketing team or by connecting the field member with the right stakeholder at Council.

Other  Partner with the Director, Celebrity Sports & Entertainment, to bring collegiate sports marketing tactics to our land- grant university partners.  Attend continuing education courses, seminars, professional meetings/groups, or technology exhibits; subscribe to trade publications.  Assist with other special assignments as assigned by VP, Field Marketing and Partnerships  Demonstrate 4-H mission driven values of integrity, excellence and inclusion and integrate into work environment.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations or education/experience equivalency. MBA or advanced marketing degree perferred.

Experience:  Minimum ten years’ experience in marketing with at least seven years in business-to-business or field marketing.  Experience with marketing strategy and plan development.  Experience managing and working with multiple vendors and internal partners including but not limited public relations and marketing, digital, and creative/design.  Demonstrated experience designing and delivering both in-person and virtual training for adult learners  Experience working with/for 4-H at the state or local level a plus

Skills:  Outstanding oral and written communication skills;  Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate with co-workers and the public as well as to lead others in the implementation of various projects and tasks  Demonstrated experience in planning, logistics and project execution  Ability to lead and manage cross-functional team work essential  Excellent organizational and time management skills  Self-starter with the ability to handle a variety of projects simultaneously with limited supervision  Ability to lead, partner and challenge peer groups  Strong analytical and problem solving skills  Intermediate Microsoft Word, Outlook, Powerpoint, spreadsheet and database skills necessary  Familiarity with virtual presenation and training platforms such as AdobeConnect, Go To Meeting, Zoom

 For Administrative & Office Associates:  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. Travel Requirements: Normal internal office environment; travel estimated at up to 50% (can be up to 3 - 5 days or more in a given month). Location within an hour of a major metro airport preferred for telecommuters. The individual selected for this position must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to navigate areas of the country using a map or other direction methods.
