Multi-purpose carpenters’ and builders’ square
Invented and developed in Australia by Sean Pepper
The American standard roofus
Consists of a 15 inch rule in sixteenths and a degree scale ending at 55 degrees in both angle directions from the stocks. This provides a measure for every position the rule can be adjusted to. An inner top cut scale of 1-17 on the front side, and a hip and valley scale of 1-17 on the tool's reverse side.
Tighten the lever to clamp the rule in any desired position.
Lift the spring clip to engage and disengage the rule from the standard square home position. The metric roofus
Features a 400mm rule, a degree scale on the front side in both angle directions from the stocks. An alphabetic hip and valley scale on the tools reverse side, corresponding to each individual degree marking on the front side.
Tighten the lever to clamp the rule in any desired position.
Lift the spring clip to engage and disengage the rule from the standard square home position. The traditional Combination square
Mark 45 degree lines up to 11 inches or 300mm long.
The basic square can be adjusted to any length up to 11 inches or 300mm.
Setting the roofus to angle markings

Determine an angle or roof pitch Plumb cut stock is perpendicular to the ground Tighten lever when bubble reads level
Angle displayed here
The Roofus then provides and displays the angle you have obtained, ready for the task!
The Plumb cut stock is perpendicular to the ground
Tighten lever when bubble reads level
Determine an angle Mark a splay cut up to 15 or roof pitch inches long or 800mm
Tighten lever when bubble reads level
The plumb cut and seat cut stocks can swap roles like below to obtain angles, or roof pitches greater than 55 degrees.

Basically, the Roofus can obtain any possible angle from one given surface!
Marking a standard rafter with the roofus in angle configuration one. 1 2 Heel cut and depth mark
Top cut
Simply roll the tool to the other stock to achieve the seat cut line!
3 A standard rafter completely marked out ready to cut, with the Roofus set as shown below. Seat cut 4
Marking a rafter with the Roofus in angle configuration two
Seat cut
Top cut
Mark angled checkouts for a gutter, or birds-mouths in raked ceiling rafters in one go!
Mark heel cut and depth Seat cut mark, then rotate tool for seat cut.
Far deeper checkouts can be achieved the same way as above, in angle configuration two. The Roofus has Seat cut provided here it all covered!

mark Self-standing horizontal level
The Roofus is the equivalent of a 400mm level, but also provides a 400mm angle level, to achieve any angle between horizontal and vertical! (any possible angle)
Both Bubbles can be easily read from three separate viewing windows, providing convenience in all levelling positions.
Vertical level
Can be read from places high and low, utilising the full rule length for accuracy.
Benchtop level
Both vials disposed at 90 degrees to each other are the equivalent of a fish eye level.
Fitting cabinets? Marking out posts on footings? The bench top level alleviates slow and tedious jobs, requiring constant checks of multiple level positions.
An additional gauge can be made with the unused portion of the rule from the 45 degree stock. Combine this with the tools existing uses and settings to save more time.
Marking long splays and wide materials
Mark long cladding board splays with ease and accuracy!
The Roofus provides the option of either a seat cut or plumb cut at the rulers’ full length. Don’t forget this length can be doubled from the opposite edge of the material, with the tool flipped over.
The Roofus can be plumbed up in situ, to obtain any angle between vertical and horizontal, adjusted to any configuration you like!
Working out accurate mitre cuts
Halve the angle shown on the Roofus, then subtract from 45 to achieve the wall mitre.
Halve the angle shown on the Roofus, then subtract 45 to achieve the skirting board mitre.
The Roofus was invented by a qualified carpenter, developed by
carpenters, on site, doing far more than just carpentry.
