It currently lacks an active and identifiable downtown – a destination for Thousand Oaks residents and visitors – a place where residents can meet, shop, and engage in civic and entertainment activities. his downtown core encompasses T 68-acres located along Thousand Oaks Blvd. This land is generally bounded by Highway 101, South Conejo School Road, and Erbes Road (Location maps to follow). he centerpiece of this re- T development lies at The Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza (image to the left). MULTI-FUNCTION Open the area to 02 multi-functional programming, giving the community broader opportunities to connect with the site. ALL AGES 03 Incorporate a 03 04 05 05 multi-generational ALL AGES CONNECT BOLD design, planning spaces for all ages, and families members across the age spectrum. CONNECTIVITY 04 Not only create a draw to the site, but also provide ways to connect the Civic Arts Plaza to the its surrounding sites, activating Thousand Oaks BE BOLD as a walkable downtown. 05 Take some big swings with the design to maximize user experience, enhancing the public realm and make it unique. AMPHITHEATER Create a multi- 02 purpose outdoor amphitheater to entice visitors of all ages to enjoy the space and surrounding amenities. PLAY 03 Bring in areas for 03 04 05 children to play PLAY PASEO WALK THE ARTS as well as water elements to help activate the town square. PASEO 04 Connect the surrounding sites with a pedestrian friendly "Paseo", including a pedestrian bridge that connects with the Lakes Shopping. Find an PUBLIC ARTS opportunity to add a bike lane as well. 05 Find ways to bring in additional public art to strengthen the Civic Arts Plaza connection to the Civic Arts. B This area also has the 19 existing main entrance that leads to the second K level of the Civic Arts Plaza. C E 26 25 ZONE 2: This area has the prime rib of open space, clear of protected oaks E. It also represents A the area with most need of an improved entrance to the first floor City Hall, F and potential to connect to the second level via a staircase. G 15 21 F ZONE 3: This sloping area H is the Quietest and 20 G most tucked away. It also has a ramp from the third floor that is often used as an exit from the main 1 6 theaters. I This area also has back access parking lot for maintenance and other functions that will be left 9 11 alone.
