Colombo is the commercial capital and largest city of Sri Lanka. According to the Brookings Institution, Colombo metropolitan area has a population of 5.6 million, and 752,993 in the city proper. It is the financial center of the island and a popular tourist destination. It is located on the west coast of the island and adjacent to the Greater Colombo area which includes Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, the legislative capital of Sri Lanka and Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia. Colombo is often referred to as the capital since Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte is within the urban area of, and a suburb of, Colombo. It is also the administrative capital of the Western Province and the district capital of Colombo District. Colombo is a busy and vibrant place with a mixture of modern life and colonial buildings and ruins. It was the legislative capital of Sri Lanka until 1982. After noon start your city tour of Colombo. The city tour will include below sites. Established in 1880, it is located in the capital city of Colombo at the Ridgeway Links also known as the Anderson Golf Course. It is home to the Sri Lanka Golf Union, the governing body of Golf in Sri Lanka and maintains links with the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews in Scotland. Return to the hotel & overnight accommodation. After Breakfast proceed to Nuwara Eliya via Ratnapura. Visit a Gemstone mine in Ratnapura. On arrival, set on a city tour in Nuwara Eliya by Tuk. Nuwara Eliya (City of Lights) is a resort city in the Central Mountain Range of Sri Lanka. Blessed with salubrious climate, breathtaking views of valleys, meadows, mountains and greenery; it’s hard to imagine that Nuwara Eliya is only 180 Km from the hot and humid Colombo. Nuwara Eliya, also known as ‘Little’ England’, was the favorite hill station of the British who tried to create the resort into a typical English Village. The old brick Post office, country house like hill club, with its hunting pictures, mounted hunting trophies and fish, and its strict formal dinner attire; the 18 hole golf course, race course etc., evoke nostalgia of Colonial British Ceylon. The Nuwara Eliya Golf Club is one of the oldest Golf Clubs in Sri Lanka. Established in the late 19th century, it is located in the hill station of Nuwara Eliya. It is an 18-hole golf course. Return to the hotel & overnight accommodation. After breakfast visit a tea plantation and factory. Optional – Enjoy a train journey from Nanu Oya to Kandy. Train tickets subject to availability. (USD 12 per person) Arrive to Kandy and check into the hotel. Historical records suggest that Kandy was first established by the King Wickramabahu (1357-1374 CE) near the Watapuluwa area, north of the present city, and it was named Senkadagalapura at the time, although some scholars suggest the name ‘Katubulu Nuwara’ may also have been used. The origin of the more popular name for the city, Senkadagala, could have been from a number of sources. These include naming it after a Brahmin named Senkanda who lived in a cave near the city, after a queen of King Wickramabahu named Senkanda or after a coloured stone named Senkadagala. In 1592 Kandy became the capital city of the last remaining independent kingdom in Sri Lanka after the coastal regions had been conquered by the Portuguese. Invasions by the Portuguese and the Dutch (16th, 17th and 18th century) and also by the British (most notably in 1803) were repelled. The last ruling dynasty of Kandy was the ‘Nayaks’ of Kandy while the Kingdom preserved its independence until it finally fell to the British in 1815. The British deposed the king, Sri Wikrama Rajasingha, and all claimants to the throne, thus ending the last traditional monarchy of Sri Lanka, and replacing it with their monarchy. As the capital, Kandy had become home to the relic of the tooth of the Buddha which symbolises a 4th-century tradition that used to be linked to royalty since the protector of the relic was seen fit to rule the land. Victoria Golf Club, The 18-hole golf course was designed to USPGA specifications by golf architects, Donald Steel and Martin Ebert. Construction commenced in 1996 and was completed in January 1999. The course was named "Best in Asia" in 2005 by the publication Asian Golf, and is also ranked in the top 100 of "Most Beautiful Courses in the World" by Golf Digest. Return to the hotel & overnight accommodation. After breakfast proceed to Peradeniya. Visit Peradeniya Botanic Gardens, botanical garden in Peradeniya, near Kandy, Sri Lanka, noted for its rich and varied collections of tropical woody plants. Occupying 59 hectares (146 acres), it has about 4,000 species of plants. The most important specimens of the garden include palms, some of which are planted in impressive avenues. Significant, too, are the collections of orchids, gymnosperms, and flowering trees. Free time shopping and visit local market. Return to the hotel & overnight accommodation. Breakfast at the hotel. Colonel Forbes had obviously also, some time or another, made an attempt to ascertain the early history of the Colombo Brokers' Association {possibly for one of the newspapers) and in this it is apparent that he was assisted by Sir Thomas Villiers, to whose book " Mercantile Lore " frequent references in this history are made.

    Sri Lanka Sri Lanka is an island nation in the Indian Ocean, separated from India by the Palk Straight. It is “almost” linked to India by a mostly underwater atoll called Adam’s Bridge. It’s a very lush, tropical island sitting just north of the equator. For over 2,000 years the island was ruled by a monarchy, which only ceased in 1972 with the appointment of a president. Sri Lanka’s population of around 21 million is multi ethnic with four main groups. Singhalese (mostly Buddhist) is the largest, followed by Tamils (mostly Hindu), Moors (with Arab origins) and Burghers – a mixed group of Portuguese and Dutch origin who are mainly Christians. Its core source of income comes from tea exportations, spices, rubber textiles and petroleum refining. About 30% of the island is covered by forest and about 10% of this is a national park. There are so many reasons to visit this country – there is a huge amount to see and do. Even though it is a relatively small country, each region is quite different.
