Opec producers and their allies agreed on Sunday to cut oil production by 9.7mn bpd. But some analysts think the deal would not be enough to stem the damage from the combination of plunging demand amid the coronavirus pandemic and a price war between Russia and Saudi Arabia. In all fairness, the Opec+ deal is historically grand in its scope, given the size of the cuts and their duration. The 20 producers taking part will initially cut output by 9.7mn bpd, with all but Mexico reducing production by 23% for two months — May and June.
