The new genus is characterized by the forewing without a fovea, R1 not anastomosing with Sc, no areole formed by veins R1 and Rs, R1 and Rs1 completely coincident, M2 arising midway between M1 and M3, anal veins 1A and 2A fused for their entire lengths; and the hind wing with Rs running close to Sc + R1 and M2 absent. -

Gillette Museum of Arthropod Diversity, Department of Bioagricultural Sciences and Pest Management Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO 80523 Abstract A list of 1531 species ofLepidoptera is presented, collected over 15 years (1988 to 2002), in eleven southern West Virginia counties. A variety of collecting methods was used, including netting, light attracting, light trapping and pheromone trapping. The specimens were identified by the currently available pictorial sources and determination keys. Many were also sent to specialists for confirmation or identification. The majority of the data was from Kanawha County, reflecting the area of more intensive sampling effort by the senior author. This imbalance of data between Kanawha County and other counties should even out with further sampling of the area. Key Words: Appalachian Mountains, -

It is represented in Chile by two described species, both from the Atacama Desert. New information Iridopsis socoromaensis sp. n. (Lepidoptera: Geometridae: Ennominae: Boarmiini) is described and illustrated from the western slopes of the Andes of northern Chile. Its larvae were found feeding on leaves of the Chilean endemic shrub Dalea pennellii (J.F. Macbr.) J.F. Macbr. var. chilensis Barneby (Fabaceae). Morphological differences of I. socoromaensis sp. n. with the two species of the genus previously known from Chile are discussed. A DNA barcode fragment of I. socoromaensis sp. n. showed 93.7-94.3% similarity with the Nearctic I. sanctissima (Barnes & McDunnough, 1917). However, the morphology of the genitalia suggests that these two species are distantly related. The © Vargas H. Bohrern, Sackträgern etc.), die in den Jahren 1998 bis 2001 auf dem Truppenübungsplatz Haltern-Platzteil Lavesum (Westfälische Bucht, Kreise Recklinghausen u. Borken) schwerpunktmäßig mit Tagfang, Köderfang und manuellem Lichtfang erzielt wurden, wer den in Form einer kommentierten Artenliste präsentiert und ausgewertet. Weiterhin wurden mehrere große Privat- und Museumssammlungen, in denen umfangreiches, un publiziertes, historisches Material aus dem Untersuchungsgebiet vorliegt, sowie alle verfügbaren publizierten Daten in die kommentierte Artenliste und Auswertung miteinbe zogen, so dass naturschutzfachliche Vergleiche mit der aktuellen Datenlage ermöglicht werden. Insgesamt konnten in mehr als 70 Jahren faunistischer Forschung 518 Großschmetterlings• arten aus 22 Familien registriert werden, von denen auch 297 Arten aktuell noch nach gewiesen wurden. 133 Arten (25,7 % des Gesamtartenspektrums) werden in der Roten Liste der in NRW gefährdeten Schmetterlinge geführt (DuDLER et al. 1999). Der Anteil der Noctuidae an der Gesamtartenzahl beträgt 40 %, der Geometridae 32 % und der Notodon tidae 5 %, der aller anderen Familien weniger als 5 %. Die Gesamtzahl der nachgewiesenen Arten ist -

Systematic Account Subfamily Ennominae DUpONChEL, 1845 (continued from volume 5) Abraxini + Cassymini + Eutoeini group of tribes (part): Addition (other species treated in volume 5) The tribes Abraxini, Cassymini and Eutoeini are morphologically similar (see SKOU & SIh VONEN 2015 for details) and their close relationship is supported by molecular data also (SIhVONEN et al. 2011). An extensive molecular study on the Geometroidea phylogeny is under preparation and preliminary results continue to support the relationships of the three mentioned Ennominae groups including the genus Odontognophos WEhrLI, 1951 (M UrILLO-RAMOS et al. 2019) which is tentatively placed here in the tribe Abraxini. Morphol- ogy of the genus Dicrognophos WEhrLI, 1951 also supports association with the mentioned group, tribe Cassymini (it has thus far not been included in a molecular study). Both genera are transferred here from the Gnophini (e.g. HAUSMANN et al. 2004; 2011a) to the Abraxini + Cassymini + Eutoeini group. Odontognophos had been included in the broad concept of Macariini in BELJAEV (2016). In volume 5 of the Geometrid Moths of Europe (SKOU & SIhVONEN 2015) the following genera of the mentioned tribal group were treated: Abraxas LEACh, 1815, Ligdia GUENÉE, 1858, Lomaspilis HÜBNEr, 1825 and Stegania GUENÉE, 1845. The group is diagnosed by the following characters (HOLLOwAY 1994; SKOU & SIhVONEN 2015): Valva divided, its dorsal arm often narrow and curved, setose apically. Male 8th sternite unmodified. Fovea in male forewing often present. Chaetosemata present. Trans- verse setal comb often present on male 3rd abdominal sternite. Forewing radial veins often reduced in number. Female structures variable, diagnostic characters not yet identified. -

E-mail: [email protected] The genus Arbomia was described as a monotypic genus by Sato & Wang, 2004, based on Arbomia kishidai Sato & Wang, 2004 from China (Guangdong) and Vietnam. Since then, no new species of Arbomia has been described. Recently we have examined all the specimens of Arbomia in IZCAS, including those collected during recent expeditions, and have found one new species. The purpose of this paper is to describe the new species A. trigonoprocessa sp. nov., to reported Arbomia kishidai for the first time from the provinces of Zhejiang, Hunan, Fujian, and Guangxi of China, and to provide diagnostic characters and illustrations of the external features and genitalia of the two Arbomia species. Specimens used in this study are deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China (IZCAS) and the South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou, China (SCAU). Terminology for the genitalia is based on Pierce (1914, reprint 1976), Klots (1970) and Nichols (1989). Photographs of the moths were taken with digital cameras. -
CHECKLIST of WISCONSIN MOTHS (Superfamilies Mimallonoidea, Drepanoidea, Lasiocampoidea, Bombycoidea, Geometroidea, and Noctuoidea)
WISCONSIN ENTOMOLOGICAL SOCIETY SPECIAL PUBLICATION No. 6 JUNE 2018 CHECKLIST OF WISCONSIN MOTHS (Superfamilies Mimallonoidea, Drepanoidea, Lasiocampoidea, Bombycoidea, Geometroidea, and Noctuoidea) Leslie A. Ferge,1 George J. Balogh2 and Kyle E. Johnson3 ABSTRACT A total of 1284 species representing the thirteen families comprising the present checklist have been documented in Wisconsin, including 293 species of Geometridae, 252 species of Erebidae and 584 species of Noctuidae. Distributions are summarized using the six major natural divisions of Wisconsin; adult flight periods and statuses within the state are also reported. Examples of Wisconsin’s diverse native habitat types in each of the natural divisions have been systematically inventoried, and species associated with specialized habitats such as peatland, prairie, barrens and dunes are listed. INTRODUCTION This list is an updated version of the Wisconsin moth checklist by Ferge & Balogh (2000). A considerable amount of new information from has been accumulated in the 18 years since that initial publication. Over sixty species have been added, bringing the total to 1284 in the thirteen families comprising this checklist. These families are estimated to comprise approximately one-half of the state’s total moth fauna. Historical records of Wisconsin moths are relatively meager. Checklists including Wisconsin moths were compiled by Hoy (1883), Rauterberg (1900), Fernekes (1906) and Muttkowski (1907). Hoy's list was restricted to Racine County, the others to Milwaukee County. Records from these publications are of historical interest, but unfortunately few verifiable voucher specimens exist. Unverifiable identifications and minimal label data associated with older museum specimens limit the usefulness of this information. Covell (1970) compiled records of 222 Geometridae species, based on his examination of specimens representing at least 30 counties. -

RINDGE' Several years ago it was noted that the genitalia of what was pre- sumed to be a single, common, and widespread species of Semiothisa in reality belonged to two species. The matter was temporarily dropped until the type specimen in question could be examined. Once such an examination was made, it was possible to revise the s-signata group from the United States and Mexico. A similar problem of adults with almost identical color and maculation in the genus Stenoporpia was brought to the author's attention by Mr. Carl W. Kirkwood, and it is also covered in the present paper. The author wishes to thank Mr. D. S. Fletcher of the British Mu- seum (Natural History), and Dr. E. L. Todd of the United States Na- tional Museum, who were kind enough to make comparisons with type material in their charge in order that the identification of some species in this paper could be made certain.
