Subject to the satisfactory completion of the necessary statutory procedures it is hoped that work will commence in 1981. Meanwhile, road markings and warning signs have been improved to further drivers' awareness of the need to negotiate the present bends with care. Six people died and three were seriously injured in a head-on collision on the A52 between Sedgebrook and Bottesford on Tuesday morning. The accident happened at 5am when two lorries and a minibus collided. Police have confirmed that five men in the minibus and one lorry driver died at the scene. The lorry driver worked for bakers Hovis. The men killed in the minibus are reported to be of various nationalities. The injured were taken to Grantham Hospital. Two of them were from the minibus. The second lorry driver, thought to be from Cambridgeshire, was not injured. Belvoir Locals Oppose Turbines Page 6 of 13 Appendix A ROAD SAFETY Police said the minibus had overtaken an oil tanker and was attempting to pass a second lorry when it collided head-on with the Hovis vehicle. A fourth lorry then crashed into the back of the Hovis lorry. Ch Supt Dave Wheeler, of Lincolnshire Police, said: "It's a scene of carnage. We know there are six confirmed dead. At the moment we are trying to establish identity. "It's an horrific scene. At the moment the emergency services are working together to try and clear the scene." Emergency services, including fire and rescue crews from Grantham, Bingham, Nottingham and Newark, are at the scene. Police have closed the road between Barrowby and the Bingham roundabout and it is expected to be blocked for the rest of the day. The bodies of the victims will be taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary where a mortuary will be set up for post-mortem examinations on Wednesday. The incident happened at around 9.55am on Tuesday, October 9 2007 close to the junction with Grantham Road. A white Vauxhall Corsa Merit and a black Volkswagen Passat were in collision. The driver of the Corsa, Mrs Irene Leeming (79) from Allington in Lincolnshire, was taken to Belvoir Locals Oppose Turbines Page 7 of 13 Appendix A ROAD SAFETY Nottingham Queens Medical Centre where she subsequently died. The driver of the Passat did not require hospital treatment. Pc Sean Stone from the road policing unit said: "We understand at the time of the collision there was a small silver car also seen in the vicinity. It's very important that we locate the driver of this vehicle as they could be a key witness. Even if they didn't see the incident it's still important that we speak to them. "We would appeal to them, and anyone else on the A52 yesterday morning, who witnessed this collision or events leading up to it to please get in touch." Marina MEADOW This is a circular route which takes you through town LANE LOCK and countryside. There are three locks throughout the route that will need to be portaged. The National Water Sports Centre has a few car parks. The best one to use for this challenge is the un-surfaced car park, where the cafe and family fun park are located. When driving in, follow the signs for the white water course; the lake can be glimpsed on the right. Turn into the first un-surfaced car, which has easy access to the river down a slipway. Please check on the National Waters Sports Centre website for any major events that may be running.     RIVER TRENT and the TRENT AND MERSEY CANAL The River Trent rises near Biddulph Moor in Staffordshire and flows through that county and the counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and finally, after 168 miles, Humberside. It ends at Trent Falls and its confluence with the Rivers Ouse and Humber. The Trent is our third longest river. The area concerned with this AQAP is AQMA 1, 2011, at the Junction of the A52 and Stragglethorpe Road, Radcliffe on Trent. This AQMA has also been referred to as AQMA 4 in previous LAQM reports. This AQAP has been subject to consultation within Rushcliffe Borough Council, the Highway Agency and the Nottinghamshire County Council Local Transport Planners. Residents in the affected area have been made aware of the AQMA at all stages and have also been consulted on the draft AQAP. A list of consultees is contained in the appendices. Any comments received have been considered carefully before this final submission. The reason for the AQMA is the exceedance of the air quality standard for the annual mean NO2 at group of properties adjacent to the A52 at this junction. It is thought the reason for this is due to traffic stopping and accelerating away of the traffic from the lights as levels of traffic and composition are comparable to other locations along the A52.
