An improvement scheme is being designed which will replace the present sharp bends by an easy curve. Subject to the satisfactory completion of the necessary statutory procedures it is hoped that work will commence in 1981. Meanwhile, road markings and warning signs have been improved to further drivers' awareness of the need to negotiate the present bends with care.

A1 Road works

Belvoir Locals Oppose Turbines Page 10 of 13 Appendix A

ROAD SAFETY Gonerby Moor roundabout junction Work to improve the existing Gonerby Moor roundabout junction on the A1 is due to start in early November 2006. The work is part of the £84 million improvement project to replace six existing roundabouts on the A1 between Blyth and Peterborough. We will convert the existing roundabout to a new two level motorway style junction which will improve safety and ease congestion by separating A1 traffic from the local traffic.

Why is the improvement needed? Gonerby Moor roundabout has a poor accident record with 39 personal injury accidents occurring over the past 5 years. This figure continues to grow with recent accidents not included within this figure. Additionally, the junction suffers frequently from congestion and lengthy delays during peak hours.

2008 Work starts on A52 Grantham Road

TUESDAY 9AM People in Bottesford have welcomed a £3.1m road improvement scheme for the A52 Grantham Road which claimed nine lives between 2002 and 2007. Work began this week on the stretch of road between the village and Barrowby, just across the border into Lincolnshire. It is expected to take about 11 weeks to complete and will involve resurfacing, new street lights and better road signs.

There have been a series of fatal accidents on this section of the A52 in recent years, the worst being in February 2006 when six people died and three others were injured in a collision involving a minibus and four lorries between Bottesford and Sedgebrook.

Roger Turnbull, chairman of Bottesford Parish Council, said: "It's a very busy and quite narrow stretch of road which is not really designed to cope with the high volume of traffic it carries.

"We are pleased this work is going ahead, it will make it a better road although I am not sure it will necessarily make it a safer road as what really counts is driver behaviour.

"One thing we will keep campaigning for, however, is a separate access road off the bypass to Belvoir High School. That's still a bugbear for us as Barkestone Lane is too narrow to cope with the increasing number of buses which share it with the pupils and mums with pushchairs who walk to the school and the primary school next door to it."

The works will be carried out overnight and at weekends when traffic flows are lightest to minimise disruption. There will also be closures on eight weekends starting next month.
