Division I Rowing Championship Records Book DIVISION I ROWING CHAMPIONSHIP RECORDS BOOK 2015 Championship 2 History 2 All-Time Team Results 5 2015 CHAMPIONSHIP HIGHLIGHTS Ohio State captures third consecutive title: Ohio State and Barry each captured national championships to highlight the final day of racing at the 2015 NCAA Rowing Championships at Lake Natoma Sunday. Ohio State secured its third consecutive Division I championship after capturing the varsity eight title with 126 points, defeating California (114) and Brown (112). It also marked the third year in a row Cal finished as runner-up. Washington (110) and Virginia (104) rounded out the top five, followed by Stanford (100), Texas (99), Washington State (92), Yale (86) and Michigan (84). In the V8 grand final, Ohio State crossed the line ahead of Cal by less than a half second for the win and more than six seconds in front of third-place Virginia. The win was the second consecutive title for the Buckeyes in the V8 final. The Brown Bears came away victorious in the second varsity eight grand final, winning by more than a second against Ohio State and six seconds in front of Washington. It was the seventh time since 2000 that Brown has captured the 2V8 title, the most recent coming in 2010. In the varsity four grand final, it turned into a three-school sprint to the finish as Virginia (7:12.760) crossed first, just ahead of Yale (7:12.920) and Brown (7:13.070). The Bears held the lead at the midway point before the Cavaliers used a late push to secure the win. Virginia won the event for the first time over the past 12 years, and first since 2010. 2015 FINAL TEAM STANDINGS 1. Ohio St., 126 13. Wisconsin, 65 2. California, 114 14. Harvard, 60 3. The Ivy League champion was determined the fastest Ivy boat in the heavyweight first varsity eight grand final at the Eastern Association of Women’s Rowing Colleges (EAWRC) Sprints from 1974 to 2011. Women’s rowing at Harvard competes under the name Radcliffe so all references related to Harvard in women’s rowing are listed as Radcliffe. The EAWRC Championships during the 1977-78 academic year was cancelled due to bad weather, thus there was no Ivy League champion recognized that year.

  • Rowing DIVISION I
Rowing DIVISION I Highlights Brown wins seventh national title: Brown held off a late charge by Stanford in the fi nal race of the day to capture the team title at the 2011 NCAA championships on May 29 on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. In the varsity eights grand fi nal, Princeton captured the title in a time of 6 minutes, 27.12 seconds. The Tigers led wire-to-wire as they won the varsity eight national title for the second time, the fi rst coming in 2006. While Princeton won the race, the battle for second determined the national championship. With Stanford closing the gap on Brown in the fi nal 100 meters, the Bears crossed the line in 6:28.62, just fi ve-hundredths of a second ahead of Stanford. That margin of victory was the diff erence as the two teams tied for the team championships with 85 points each. The tiebreaker to determine the national championship was the higher fi nish in the varsity eights race, giving Brown its seventh national title and third in the past fi ve years. California, which held a slim lead in the team race entering the grand fi nal, fi nished fourth in the race and third in the team championship. Princeton fi nished fourth in the team standings, followed by Southern California, Virginia, Michigan State, Washington, Wisconsin and Ohio State. Yale was 11th, with Washington State, Michigan, Harvard, Clemson and Dartmouth rounding out the fi eld. The Division I second varsity eights grand fi nal was captured by Stanford, which led wire-to-wire and fi nished in a time of 6:26.76, more than two seconds ahead of Brown.

  • Rowing DIVISION I
Rowing DIVISION I Highlights Ohio State uses a total team effort: Ohio State’s varsity four and second varsity eight won their grand finals and the first varsity eight placed third to earn Ohio State its first NCAA team championship and the first for a Big Ten team. The championships were May 31 through June 2 in Indianapolis. “I let them know [June 1] night that I was pretty confident that we were going to do this,” head coach Andy Teitelbaum said. “They have worked tremendously hard and watching us build momentum throughout the regatta had me really believing we were going to pull off [the win]. “They had done all the work necessary, they had shown their speed and now it was just the question of reaching out and trying to take it and they did it.” But it wasn’t one coxswain or bow or boat that won it for the Buckeyes, but their entire roster of almost 40 rowers. “We have two more fours and two novice eights back home who are also just tremendous competitors and big parts of the program,” Teitelbaum said. “I think more than anything that was the thing that got us to the championship, to the top.” In 2012, Ohio State lost six seniors from its first varsity eight alone. Thankfully, the Buckeyes had the depth to fill those seats without sacrificing the success of its other boats. “The six kids that came into that boat are every bit as good or better than the people they replaced,” Teitelbaum said. “A lot of them came out of the 2V8, one of them came out of the [varsity four].
