Will joining the Chamber really help my business? COMPANY We strive to help all our member businesses grow, but you don’t need to take our word for it, PEACHTREE Here Is What Our Members Have To Say:

In the first 9 months of being Fayette Chamber Members, we grew 10%! We enthusiastically encourage businesses to become not only members of the Fay- ette Chamber but active members! Not only does being involved help you make business connections and as a result helps your business grow but also being around like-minded business people stimulates your thought process, opens you up to new ideas and ways to improve your business. – Shelia B.

In this time of crisis poor companies are going to fail, good companies will just survive and great companies will thrive. I want to be a great company and the Chamber can help get me there. – Rick B.

Being an active member and meeting so many key people in the community helped our business. Business connections are vital for businesses in the com- munity. Great ideas come from joining committees and hearing from others. Working together encourages new ways of thinking and planning for the future. – Vicki T.

I was looking for an opportunity to grow my business. What I found was that there was more to the Chamber than growing a business. I learned and con- tinue to learn about the community I live in. The Chamber provided leadership opportunities which replaced the leadership opportunities I lost when I retired from the Army. As I developed my business as a sole practitioner, the Chamber provided the business social interactions that are present when working in a multi-employee company. – Jim M.

Tyrone to Canton: Sandy Creek’s Johnson transforms into a Hall of Famer

BY CHRISTOPHER DUNN FAYETTE COUNTY NEWS

He used to walk the halls of Sandy Creek High School, now Calvin Johnson will be en- shrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Johnson started late, not play- ing football until the 7th grade at the insistence of his mother, but it did not slow him down. His greatness was readily apparent to his teammates, like quarterback Dusty Bennett. “I think there was no doubt from an early age that we all knew Calvin was something special,” said Bennett, who noted that Calvin made his job as quarterback that much easier. “Throwing to Calvin was special because he had the ability to make plays in uncer- tain situations. Looking back, I don’t think I would have been surprised if you would have told me he would be an NFL Hall of Famer. Thinking about it now, it’s pretty cool to share our mem- ories together with my kids. He deserves every bit of it, no other player is more deserving of this IMAGES VIA PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME (Hall of Fame) honor than CJ.”

Dusty noticed early on that Calvin exuded greatness in any- thing he did. Bennett later went on to work with multiple college football programs, and his old teammate stands above them all. “Whether on the baseball or football field, Calvin had a presence that demanded respect among other players,” he said. “When we were juniors, playing at Woodward Academy, I believe we were down 21-0 at halftime. We came out the second half and tied it up to take it to overtime.
