THE AND REGINA CAELI

These devotions commemorate the mystery of the Incarnation and pay homage to Mary’s role in salvation history, it has long been part of Catholic life. Around the world, three times every day (at 6am, 12 noon and 6pm) the faithful stop whatever they are doing and pray.

V Angelus Domini nuntiavit Mariae. V The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary. R Et concepit de Spiritu Sancto. (Ave Maria) R And she conceived of the Holy Ghost. ()

V Ecce ancilla Domini. V Behold the handmaid of the Lord. R Fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum. (Ave Maria) R Be it done unto me according to Thy word. (Hail Mary)

V Et Verbum caro factum est. R And the Word was made flesh. R Et habitavit in nobis. (Ave Maria) V And dwelt among us. (Hail Mary)

V Ora pro nobis, sancta Dei Genitrix. vV Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. R Ut digni efficiamur promissionibus Christi. R That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Oremus Let us pray Gratiam tuam, quaesumus Domine, mentibus nostris Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our infunde: ut qui, Angelo nuntiante, Christi Filii tui incar- hearts, that we to whom the Incarnation of Christ, Thy nationem cognovimus, per passionem ejus et crucem ad Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by resurrectionis gloriam perducamur. Per eumdem Christum His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Dominum nostrum. Amen. resurrection. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Regina caeli, laetare, alleluia; O rejoice, alleluia: Quia quem meruisti portare, alleluia, For he whom thou didst merit to bear, alleluia, Resurrexit, sicut dixit, alleluia: has risen as he said, alleluia. Ora pro nobis Deum, alleluia Pray for us to God, alleluia.

V Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia. V Gaude et laetare, Virgo Maria, alleluia. R For the Lord has risen indeed, alleluia. R Quia surrexit Dominus vere, alleluia. Let us pray. Oremus. O God, who gavest joy to the world through the Deus, qui per resurrectionem Filii tui Domini nostri Iesu Resurrection of thy Son our Lord Christ: grant we Christi, mundum laetificare dignatus es: praesta, may obtain, through his Virgin Mother, Mary, the joys of quaesumus, ut, per eius Genetricem Virginem Mariam, everlasting life. Through the same Christ our Lord. perpetuae capiamus gaudia vitae. Per Christum, Dominum R Amen. nostrum. R Amen.
