Studies on Coastal Geomorphology Along Visakhapatnam to Bhimunipatnam, East Coast of India M
J. Ind. Geophys. Union ( October 2012 ) Vol.16, No.4, pp. 179-187 Studies on Coastal Geomorphology along Visakhapatnam to Bhimunipatnam, East Coast of India M. Jagannadha Rao, Greeshma Gireesh A.G., P. Avatharam1, N.C. Anil2 and T. Karuna Karudu Delta Studies Institute, 1Dept of Geology, 2Dept. of Geo-Engineering, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. ABSTRACT An attempt has been made to study and record the diverse coastal geomorphic features along Visakhapatnam – Bhimunipatnam coast. The study area is marked by geomorphic features resulted from various coastal and land ward processes. The geomorphic units under different heads namely, features formed by present day wave action, features formed due to sea level oscillations and features formed by rock and sea water interaction have been presented. The influence of sea level oscillations and land and sea interaction forms a diverse coastal geomorphology along the coast. The details of features such as beach, dune system, inter tidal deposits, red sediments, wave cut platform, marine terrace, sea stack, sea cave, serpent hood structures, promontories, wind gap and natural bridge have been recorded and the formation as well as significance of their occurrence are presented. The coastal geomorphology of the study area clearly established not only the sea level oscillations but also variations in climatic conditions in this part of the coast. INTRODUCTION PHYSIOGRAPHY Coastal geomorphology by definition is the study of The study area is characterized by Eastern Ghat the morphological development and evolution of the mobile belt. This area covered with denudational coast as it acts under the influence of winds, waves, hills of range between 30 to 594m above mean currents and sea level changes. -

Geological Mapping Through Geospatial Technologies in the District of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India B
International Journal of Management, Technology And Engineering ISSN NO : 2249-7455 Geological Mapping through Geospatial Technologies in the district of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India B. Sridhar Department of Geo-Engineering, Andhra University College of Engineering (A), Visakhapatnam [email protected], Tel.: +91-8341556390 Neela Victor Babu Baba Institute of Technology and Science, Visakhapatnam Aditya Allamraju Abstract-A geological map gives primary data for analyzing both past and present day to day processes affecting a region on the Earth. This kind of information is vital for providing information relating to geology that can aid to minimize damage and death caused by geologic hazards such as earthquakes and landslides. For the present investigation, thematic maps of geology have been generated from the IRS-ID-LISS III, 2004 and standard visual interpretation methods have been followed,to portray on-screen digitations of the features. This study shows that three major rock types are exposed in the area, out of which khondalite is the major rock types followed by Quartzite and thenCharnockite latter two types of rocks occur as intrusive bodies into the country rock. The structural trend of rocks is NNE-SSW however, local variations are observed at places. These features play a prominent role in relation to drainage development and erosion in the area. Keywords:geological, hazards, khondalite, quartzite, charnockite 1. INTRODUCTION GIS is a new and effective tool in geological mapping. It becomes easy for surveyors to create 3D maps of any area with precise and desired scaling. The results provide accurate measurements, which helps in several fields where geological map is required. -

LT NO 118/2013/L4 SUBJECT NO.26 Sub: VUDA-VSP-PLG- Layouts –Handing over the open spaces covered in VUDA Layouts Falling in the jurisdiction of GVMC - Regarding. *** VUDA was set up for the purposes of planning, co-ordination, supervising, promoting and securing the planned development of the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region (VMR). It coordinates the development activities of the Municipal Corporation, Municipalities and other local authorities. VUDA, up to 2008, had its jurisdiction of 1721 sq.km., comprising 5 urban centres viz., Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Ankapalli, Bheemunipatnam and Gajuwaka and 287 villages. It is referred to as Erstwhile Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region (VMR). Considering the developmental pressure and to further promote planned development, the VUDA vide Government G.O.No.525, dated 30.7.2008, extended its jurisdiction limits By 3852.51 sq.km to 5573 sq.km, with a population of 4.2 million (as per 2001 census). The present VUDA area comprises 1281 villages, 7 Municipalities and 1 Nagar Panchayat in Districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and East Godavari. As a planning apex body, VUDA is playing a vital role in development of the region. So far VUDA has taken up 51 Nos. of Layouts (including Town Planning Trust approved layouts). The layouts were approved as per the then rules in vogue. Till 1986, it was insisted to have 5% of the total layout are a towards the layout open space. Subsequently, while preparing the master plan in the year 1986, it was incorporated in the zoning regulations to have 10% of the reserved open space in all layouts.
