On August 23rd at 2 pm . Dwayne Rudolph Goettel (aka The Duck) accidentally passed away. 2 Days later, after nearly continous calls from 100s of friends of Dwayne, We,the friends and believers of Dwayne wish to make an adiustment to the previous release, made by people who were not friends nor did they support Dwayne. It angered us greatly to see American rec use this tragedy as their opportunity to SELL! Dwayne/cEvin were rudely dropped from American montlis ago and they offered no support in respecting Dwayne or his feelings. As Dwayne's close friend I truly believe that Dwayne would like those who didn't know him to know that he was more, much more than just "an addict". Dwayne was a human being, a sensative and delicate man, a gifted and brilliant artist, a genius "Keyboard programmer/Player". Dwayne's hero was Luke Skywalker, and like Luke, Dwayne was an explorer, he showed no weakness in his decisions, he was trusted and loved, and he did not want to die. Dwayne was intrigued by "out of body" writings and experiences and he led a life taking controlled excursions. Though very against Heroin for years his great pain in life came from loosing a relationship with his Girlfriend, as well being humiliated and frustrated with a record company that was never respectful of his hard work. This is to say that Dwayne did not give up, He communicated with us about his pains and about his goals of rebuilding a happy life. He had just formed his own Studio and Record company "Subconscious" He had just formed a new band "DOWNLOAD" and had just finished the recording and mixing of a LP and EP (Furnace/Microscopic). I know that Dwayne would like all to know that he "finished" his work with the latest Skinny Puppy LP in April 1995. It was one of his goals to reunite with Producer/very close friend David Ogilvie to fil1ish the LP, He was very very proud of it The record company was not Dwayne was my best friend and partner, I know what he thought, and I know he would want this to be known, as horrible a story it is. I loved him as did many, He will be greatly and deeply missed. It was within his last message to me during his recovery that he asked that we continue on and that he'd be there in spirit. LOS ANGELES (Reuter) - Dwayne Goettel, drummer for the influential Canadian rock band Skinny Puppy, has died of a heroin overdose, the band's record label said Thursday. His body was found at his parents' home in Edmonton, Alberta on Wednesday. He was 31. Goettel had been working with bandmate Kevin Key, whose stage name was cEvin Key, on the industrial rock band's ninth full-length recording "The Process", tentatively scheduled for release later this year, said Melissa Dragich at American Recordings. "They were one of the first industrial bands, long before Nine Inch Nails," Dragich told Reuters. "They always had fake blood, and skeletons (in their stage act). It was very theatrical looking." With their dense, claustrophic sounds and cryptic lyrics, the band set the scene for bigger-selling acts like Nine Inch Nails and Ministry. "The loneliness and separation that comes when faced with the unbearable realization of addiction can sometimes prove too much," said former Skinny Puppy vocalist Kevin Ogilvie from Seattle. He said he was devestated by Goettel's death. Ogilvie quit the band, formed in Vancouver in 1983, several months ago during recording. "I am truly sorry for Dwayne's family, and hope he is remembered as being extremely sensitive and a beautiful, gifted person/artist whose talent and offerings were cut short by drugs," Ogilvie said. He was 31. Goettel was discovered Wednesday collapsed on the floor of his family's home in Edmonton, where he had been vacationing, his father, Rudy Goettel, said Friday. Formed in Vancouver in 1983, Skinny Puppy's was a pioneer of industrial rock, rooted in computer-generated music, and was a strong influence on such American bands as Nine Inch Nails and Ministry. Its cryptic lyrics and claustrophobic sound became a powerful force shaping alternative rock music. Kevin Ogilvie, Skinny Puppy's former lead singer, said in a statement he was devastated by news of Goettel's death, whom he described as the "little known genius behind the curtain" of the band. "I am truly sorry for Dwayne's family and hope he is remembered as being extremely sensitive and a beautiful gifted person, an artist whose talent and offerings were cut short by drugs," Ogilvie said. Goettel played the trumpet in his high school band in High Level, Alberta, but his musical interest blossomed when the family moved to Edmonton, where he learned piano and began performing on the local music scene. A spokesperson for American Recording, Skinny Puppy's label, said the band's ninth full-length album would be released at the end of the year. Rudy Goettel said his son had just finished work in Los Angeles on an album for another rock group, Down Load.

I received some very sad news this morning from a friend of mine who edits Chart Magazine, a national Canadian music magazine that I contribute to: Dwayne Goettel passed away last night in Edmonton after suffering a heroin overdose. Although this hasn't been confirmed by Cevin or a spokeperson from Subconcious, American Recordings, or anyone else who would be in a position to confirm such an event, my friend has no reason to dobut her source, and I therefore have no reason to doubt her. The Season of despair? What's causing these pop icons to behave in such desperate ways. First Depeche Mode's David Gahane attempted suicide, and then on August 23 Dwayne Goettel, the drummer of the seminal industrial rock group Skinny Puppy was found dead, at the home of his parents of an apparent heroin overdose. According to a release sent out by American Recordings, Goettel and band mate cEvin Key had been in Canada since May of 1994, working on the upcoming Skinny Puppy Record for American Recordings. ATN had heard reports that there had been trouble in puppy pound, and we had even heard disturbing rumors that the band had broken up, and that this album for American Recordings would be their swan song. Those rumors were confirmed today, when American Recordings released the news that Skinny Puppy vocalist Orge had surreptitiously left the band several months ago due to "extreme internal band problems." Orge was reached at his home in Seattle, and made the following statement: "I am completely devastated by the loss of Dwayne. The loneliness and separation that comes when faced with the unbearable realization of addiction can sometimes prove too much. I am truly sorry for Dwayne's family, and I hope he is remembered as being extremely sensitive and a beautiful, gifted person/artist whose talent and offerings were cut short by drugs. Friends of the band say that Dwayne was despondent over the break-up of the band, and they believe that the overdose was a suicide attempt.
