The Conference has been mainly devoted to the problem of algal and cyanobacterial mass development and its management prospects. Rich collection of current scientific information coming from 10 countries (Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Turkey) and presented during the Conference includes results of research con- cerning: 1/ cyanobacterial water blooms and cyanotoxins in historical context; 2/ cyanobacterial genetics, ecophysiology and influence on other organisms; 3/different aspects of cyanobacterial bloom control from cell to ecosystem and catchment level; 4/ mass development of other algae (chlorophytes, chrysophytes, euglenophytes and raphidophytes) as well as ecology and biogeography of algae living in various habitats (fresh- and marine waters, rocks, soils) from sub-polar to tropical zones; 5/ different aspects of phytoplankton functioning in aquatic systems; 6/ response of algae to anthro- pogenic impact (heavy metals, acidification, organic pollution) and 7/ algae in biotech- nology. Out of 93 contributions submitted, 32 will be in the form of oral presentations and 61 displayed as posters. We plan to publish a part of contributions in an international journal Limnological Review. During the conference, 119 participants will have an opportunity to learn new tech- niques in modern microscopy, genetics and ecotoxicology provided by sponsors: Precop- tic Co., Polygen Sp.z o.o.; and Tigret Sp. z o.o. Page | 1 Abstract Prymnesium parvum is a toxin-producing haptophyte that causes harmful algal blooms (HABs) globally, leading to large scale fish kills that have severe ecological and economic implications. A HAB on the Norfolk Broads, U.K, in 2015 caused the deaths of thousands of fish. Using optical microscopy and 16S rRNA gene sequencing of water samples, P. parvum was shown to dominate the microbial community during the fish-kill. Using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), the ladder-frame polyether prymnesin-B1 was detected in natural water samples for the first time. Furthermore, prymnesin-B1 was detected in the gill tissue of a deceased pike (Exos lucius) taken from the site of the bloom; clearing up literature doubt on the biologically relevant toxins and their targets. Using microscopy, natural P. parvum populations from Hickling Broad were shown to be infected by a virus during the fish-kill. A new species of lytic virus that infects P. parvum was subsequently isolated, Prymnesium parvum DNA virus (PpDNAV-BW1).

Twenty-five new records were identified for the Turkish freshwater algae. They belong to the following divisions: 3 to Cyanobacteria, 1 to Rhodophya, 1 to Euglenozoa, 2 to Myzozoa, 1 to Ochrophyta, 9 to Chlorophyta, and 8 to Charophyta. Queremos insistir en el hecho de que estos estudios se han lle- vado a cabo sobre material escrito y no sobre herbarios, casi inexis- tentes, y que sólo abarcan las publicaciones encontradas hasta julio de 1981; más adelante se confeccionarán suplementos con las incorpo- raciones posteriores a dicha fecha. Los grupos de algas incluidos en este trabajo se han ordenado en Clases y Familias siguiendo las obras de Bourrelly (1968 y 1970) y Silva (1980).
