FOR IMMEDATE RELEASE Fiji Rugby Union 35 Gordon St, Suva PO Box 1234, Suva, Fiji Islands www.fijirugby.com | www.facebook.com/fijirugby | www.twitter.com/fijirugby | www.youtube.com/fijirugby Fiji Rugby Union signs Mark Drown as Fiji 7s Manager Suva, Fiji, September 12th, 2017 – As part of Fiji Rugby’s’ Strategic Plan 2017-2021, Fiji Rugby Union CEO John Masi O’Connor has announced the selection of Mark Drown to assume the duties and responsibilities of the Men’s 7s National Team Manager. After an extensive search and interview process, the FRU selected Drown to the position based on his management and organizational skills developed from over 30 years in the U.S. Military and the rugby sevens community at the youth level with the Utah Cannibals, collegiate level with the University of Utah, and senior select with the All Army 7s program. Drown holds a Masters of Arts Degree in Physical Education Teaching/Coaching, a Masters of Science Degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, and has served as a Coaching Educator for USA Rugby. Drown had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with Coach Gareth Baber during two prior visits to Fiji and is fully prepared to execute Coach Baber’s vision for the 7s Program. “From our initial meeting in March to present day, Mark has been a valued asset to FRU 7s and I am very pleased to have his experience, discipline, and drive on my staff here in Fiji,” stated Gareth Baber. Drown’s additional responsibilities will be to assist Coach Baber with the Fiji Barbarians in international competition and to visit the outer islands identifying players for the National Training Camp in Suva. Drown is no stranger to the Oceania region having spent time in Fiji, Vanuatu, Australia and New Zealand during his career. “I look forward to the challenge and the opportunity that has been presented to me. Fiji 7s is an iconic world brand and I am thankful to the CEO Mr. O’Connor and Coach Baber for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the FRU and the Fijian community “stated Drown.
