The X- radiographs indicate that four fabric inserts were added to the paint- ing to change it from a curvilinear, scalloped shape to a rectangular format. -

Il portale per la storia della città» <http://www.storiadifirenze.org> Esperienze religiose e poesia nella Firenze del '600: intorno ad alcuni sonetti "quietisti" di Vincenzo da Filicaia Tra le innumerevoli spie della crisi della coscienza europea Hazard indicava l'insorgere di più o meno dichiarate ostilità verso la poesia, tanto che un personaggio come Jean Le Clerc non aveva esitato a definirla prodotto dell'inganno e della falsità. Ma arrivato al punto di dover registrare l'assenza o la morte della poesia pura Hazard introduceva, con un passaggio rapido e fortemente evocativo tipico del suo stile, un tema carico di suggestioni e solo in apparenza semplice: l'eterno bisogno di poesia che ogni generazione sente in modo diverso. Sulla scorta di una tradizione di critica letteraria radicatasi due secoli prima non esitava a contrapporre la seconda generazione dei poeti italiani protagonisti della stagione arcadica a quelli formatisi nella prima parte del secolo, seguaci del Marino, "che suggeriva loro di cantare senza posa i fuochi algenti, i ghiacci ardenti, le dolcezze crudeli e i piacevoli rigori"(1). Tutto questo finché un giorno tra le imitazioni di Anacreonte, Pindaro e Orazio, Francesco Redi ebbe l'idea di chiamare Bacco sulle colline toscane: " quel giorno una forma di poesia densa e vigorosa, sapida, originale, nonostante la sua pretesa di rinnovare i ditirambi antichi, si salvò. -

IL RITRATTO DI UN « LETTERATO » NELLA FIRENZE DI FINE SEICENTO « DALLE MUSE ALLATTATO » : UN PROFESSORE DI GRECO NELLA REPUBBLICA DELLE LETTERE « Converso co’ libri come colle persone, non isdegnando nessuno, facendo buon viso a tutti, ma poi tenendo alcuni pochi buoni e scelti più cari ». Con queste parole Anton Maria Salvini si congedava dall’amico Antonio Montauti, scultore fiorentino, nella lettera indirizzatagli il 18 novembre 1713i. A quella data nell'Europa colta si erano fissate da tempo le convenzioni che regolavano, attraverso simboli, istituzioni, lessici, spazi ideali e spazi reali, la grande galassia della cosiddetta « Repubblica delle lettere ». Alla definizione di questa galassia, Salvini aveva offerto un contributo personale che gli storici non hanno mancato di sottolineare : i confini idealmente labili della Repubblica delle lettere si estendevano per Salvini ovunque si trovassero « gentilezza, buoni costumi, civiltà »ii. La scelta di questo personaggio, quale rappresentante tra i più significativi del milieu intellectuel fiorentino del tempo, è motivata, oltre che dalla qualità del suo impegno culturale, dalla sua costante riflessione sulla propria esperienza e sul proprio statuto di « letterato » ben inserito in una comunità internazionale di dotti. Questo permetterà di seguire l'evoluzione Maria Pia Paoli - Anton Maria Salvini (1653-1729) temporale e concettuale di tale condizione fino alle soglie della sua maturità quando sboccia l'epoca del Settecento di Muratori e del cosiddetto « cattolicesimo illuminato »iii.
