Weather & Climate ? e vast unbroken stretch of ocean to the west and south of the South American continent leaves the Patagonian Andes very exposed to the saturated winds that circle the Antarctic landmass. ? e strong marine infl uence and the eff ect of the Southern Patagonian Ice fi eld also make the weather hard to predict.

In spring or early summer, fi ne weather may deteriorate almost without warning, bringing rain and even snow. Even in summer (December to March) you should come prepared for strong, cold winds up to 130 km/hr) and rainfall. ? e summer’s average temperature is 11°C/52°F (24°C max, 2°C min).

Rest assured, however, since just as quickly as the weather turns nasty, it can become pleasantly warm! Night-time temperatures generally range from -1°C to -5°C (30’s to 40’s °F).

Physical Demands ? is trip does not demand physical activity other than walking a maximum of two consecutive hours over mainly fl at terrain with as many stops as necessary to fi t in with the rhythm of the group. You need to be more energetic and have a higher level of fi tness to take part in the active excursions. To enjoy these treks it is essential that you are in shape before arriving. All trails visit- ed in the programs are below 1,000 m / 3,000 ft. so there should be no problems with altitude.

*Please note that all travellers aged 60 years and above must complete an EcoCamp medical form. Please contact your Viva Expeditions sales consultant for more information and a copy of the form.
