Prof. Department of Botany. This was as part of his long-term involvement in the area along with local people and their orgnsiaiton, Welfare Association Puthenvelikkara (WAP) and Hornbill Foundation to conserve the wet land as it is as important fresh water source in the backwater surrounded land, unique Kuttadan paddy cultivation, cattle grazing and fishing area for the community and its biodiversity richness. Dr. Bachan was involved in the conservation programme since 2005 and later they have initiated “Thazhamchira Thanal Programme” during 2010 to plant shade tree along the two roads traversing the wetland in memory of honouring elders with active involvement of local people. At the same time the intention was to avoid littering in the area and bring back the attention of the whole community into the wetland. Its second phase to plant more trees, regularly where causalities happens and spreading that along the road upto the surrounding the hills, regular maintenance and monitoring was taken up by the NSS unit along with Research Department of Botany with the leadership of Dr. Bachan during 2015-16. The programme declared on the environment day. 1500 saplings were planted and distributed in Thazhamchira wet land and surrounding hills that year.
